Only slightly annoying news, at most. I had heard that FF XIII was primarily being developed for the PS3, with a 360 version being created later. To think that they'd cut content from the final version to make it "fair" on both platforms is a little strange to me.

If I had to guess, I'd bet that after the initial release, Square would come out with a PS3 exclusive version featuring all previously dropped content. Or maybe a multi-platform release, depending on sales on both consoles.

No, wishing upon a star won't make you a real boy.

Really, if you think long and hard, I'm sure you can come up with the answers to your own little questions. Infact, one of them you already did. The other takes a little more thought, but I'm sure you can figure it out if you really try.

As for 360 owners and JRPGs... that's where the world collectively facepalms again.

Different games.

Damn, Square, this sucks. This, really, really sucks.

It's going to have random encounters as well. I mean, come on.

the biggest thing is not having japanese voices with english subtitles. thats hardly a loss. the rest of the article is merely speculating that you might not be able to do all the side missions or access all the areas at once. plus this is often well done, look at ff7 (the best ff by far) you couldnt go back to a few places in that because they were destroyed, thats fine. and all the side missions worth doing could only be done on the last disc because without a decent amount of xp you had no chance against the weapons, even with characters roided upto level 99 if your tactics were wrong and you didnt have the right materia fully levelled up and duplicated you would get your arse handed to you on a plate.

just be thankful this game will be nothing like FF10-2, what an absolute bag of wank that game was.

Really? People are getting angry over this?

Who seriously listen to a Japanese voice track if you can't understand the language anyway?

As for the mission comment...shall we just wait and see how the game plays out before making assumptions...?

It is stupid that they are cutting it out of the PS3 version, yes - there's no need to do that - but all this rage over it...people care about little often insignificant things and put way to much emphasis on them...

It's called a Videogame for a reason. If graphics are not important for an inherently visual medium why not just make a damned pure text RPG? It's like someone creating a Graphic Novel with an awesome story and shit drawings. If the drawing is gonna be shitty wouldn't it be better to drop the graphics and stick to the novel? In a game of this kind where the gameplay is largely stat/menu driven the graphics are even more important for telling the story because the presentation is what brings the player in and keeps the player engaged.
I agree to an extent, graphics to have to be decent - but I disagree they need as much emphasis as you claim. Graphics do not need to be great to tell a good story - they just need to be functional.

They should be making it to each system's potential. I'm sure if they said "The hardware's different" as their excuse for it looking different there shouldn't be any problems. After all, it should still play very similar.

Good! Boredom Fantasy (amirite?) was and always will be a steaming pile of over hyped, derivative trash. How People view FFVII as the pinnacle of gaming ill never know... And yes Darth Vader would Pwn Sephiroth thank you very much.

On a more serious note, who cares? Your all going to get the same pile of crap on your plate anyway so whats with all the hate? Make love not Fan(boy)fare.

(BTW Lost Odyssey rocked total ass :p)

P.S. Someone had asked if the 360 had a JRPG would Lost Odyssey not count as one? After all it was created by the creator of FF...

that does sound a bit rubbish... though, to be fair, if the 360 owners got a lesser version of XIII, then they would complain that its not fair. Either way, Square Enix gets complaints, so they had to choose one way or the other.

edit:

well, I'm a bit upset about no Japanese voice, because 1) I do indeed understand the language, and 2) I HATE voice overs, they generally are shitter than the original voice actors.

Besides, its not just the language, screen shots have shown that the graphics have been downgraded as well.

None of Square's recent games have had Japanese voice acting in their western versions. Even when every damn other company's have, including, yes, on the Xbox 360.

The reason, one suspects is not really disc limits, because they can simply print it on more discs.

No, the reason is that Square are rubbish and lazy.

What i want to no is, Why can't FF games come out on pc and not be MMOs.
It's possible that this type of RPG does not have a very big market in their home territory on PC, whereas MMOs do.
I see your point, but i don't see the point in forking out for a console just so i can my hands on Jrps. I mean there are some (quite a few) Jarps like FF that are on Pc so i don't see why they don't jump on the Pc wagon as well... I mean its only going to make them more money.

Also, to join in the argument about the language. I would rather watch it with subtitles can the voice syncing NEVER and normaly sucks plus thats how i watch the anime i watch.

I'm sorry but I must address this, even though it's off topic, many graphic novels use less than stellar art work and carry along a brilliant story (Johnny The Homicidal Maniac for one) and there are tons of games out there that aren't AAA titles that tell wonderful stories with less than stellar graphics. If I want to look at pretty things I can got to a Museum or BustyAsianBeauties.com or heaven forbid, spend my free time watching tech demos. While graphics are important, they are not a deal breaker.

I agree that presentation is what draws a player in, but that isn't the same as hi-end graphics, and I believe once you're in it's the story that keeps you engaged. Peggle is presented well, and keeps people engaged for scarily long periods of time, yet it's little more that bubble bobble or bust a move. And there are tons of less than stellar looking titles that do well on PSN and X-box LIVE. Some of these are retro-games just re-sold, so nostalgia has a certain effect here too. But there are plenty of new games, that look dated but it has no effect on how they play.

And a lot of hi-end graphics now just mean lots of Greys, browns and blacks...and that's a argument all to itself...

(And before anyone hoots, bustyasianbeauties.com is a domain name owned by WB, I'm not pushing porn here.)

It is official. For the first time i feel resentment towards the 360. This is complete and utter bullshit.

just to throw this into the mix as it was brought up earlier. On launch, the 80gig version with all the card readers and such, was 600$, with 8% tax that's 648$. No game, just the system and a controller. with a game that's over 700$. This is exactly why it didn't sell right off the bat. Many people, myself included, while knowing Blu-Ray was a great technology, and if taken advantage of could mean some pretty impressive advancements in games. But it wasn't worth the money at the time.

I now own all 3 consoles and a custom built gaming PC, FWIW.

meh, my 2 cents.

EDIT: to comment on the topic...lol. I guess it sorta sucks, but owning both systems, I guess I don't really care? It doesn't really ruin my gaming expeience, even though I'll get FF13 on the PS3 (old habits die hard I guess??)

Well, don't release the game on the 360. If you're cutting back features on the game just to release it on the 360 when it was designed with the PS3 in mind, you're fucked. It makes better sense to time the PS3 version's exclusivity, THEN release the 360 version. You won't be cutting back shit to fit on the console.

That is pretty weak.
