Hi guys n gals. Just wanted to ask you escapists for advice since the reviews confuses me a bit. Here in Denmark, the reviews seem pretty 'alright' (5-7ish) but when i look at IGN or Gamestop the reviews of FF XIII are pretty good (8-8.5). Two things they seem to agree on are the AWESOME graphics and the extremely linear story.

So, what do you think, is it worth a buying? PS. The price is about 36 dollars.
No. Point in case, Japan (which are big in both JRPG and Final Fantasy) mostly return their copy. If that country can't stand it... what chance do you get. Here's the pic of it.
For once, we may be in agreement, Akal.

What Akal says. Stuff was baaaaad poison...

Hey, if i could... i would be the peddler giving away the game (i owned New... because i used it once) and the Strategy guide under a thunderstorm while busting my evil laugh.

Wait... Is Akal gonna be my nick from now on?

I like RPG-ish games where you can control what your party does. I loved the old turn based ones. I don't know why, but I do. I think the attempt they made to keep it flowing and acting in real time (somewhere around the time FFX2, FFXI: Online, and XII) seems to be a bit too much like an MMO.

FF XIII takes this to extreme. You really have very, and I mean very, little control over any party members not directly being controlled by you. They follow a script based upon what skill set you give them.

Another thing I loved about JRPGs was the open world exploration. I would trudge around the little pixelated continents for hours looking for every conceivable cranny and hidden item.

Starting around FFX, this idea seemed to fall out of favor. The world became corridors to be rushed down, the goal to be the end point, the reward another cut scene. FFXIII takes this to an extreme, making you feel as if you are walking down the corridor alone, the enemies visible ahead and strategically placed to be more of a hindrance than to serve any plot device.

I guess, in all honesty, I started to dislike the franchise around the end of FF7. Everything became high tech. Long lost was the mystical, the fantasy, the magical moments of dark ages feudal settings. Replace alchemy with cybernetics, swords with gunblades and assault rifles, and airships with spacecraft and high tech fighters.

It went from High fantasy to Sci-Fantasy. And thus the franchise flounders. It went from open-world exploration to a walk down the schoolhouse hallway. And the franchise coughs a death rattle. It went from team based squad battle to AI controlled fight cut scenes. And thus the franchise becomes rejected.

All games change, all companies evolve, all genres morph. What Final Fantasy is now is nothing like what Final Fantasy was then. Give me shoddy translations, pixelated maps, and turn based combat. It's what made the genre grand.

I think this episode of VG Cats makes the best argument I can think of.
First: FF9 is a really good throw back to the core of the franchise. Not ff6 level, but it better than ff5.

Second: Scott Ransoomair is dead. He hasn't updated his site in 4 month... most likely due to the fact he tried and finish that game. I would say R.I.P. but when your dumb enough to do something that hurt you like
putting your junk into a coffee grinder and pressing the highest setting.
Tying a anvil to your clitoris and throwing it down from the top of the Chrysler building
and keep at it till your done just to see... You deserved it.

FFXIII is a love it or hate it scenario that i've not been able to predict who will love it ot hate it.

I really enjoyed it, the battle system is incredibly fun and gets better as the game progresses.
Story was good, visuals were fantastic, and the characters were rather interesting.

Also, VGcats has always been the laziest comic series in history.

Also, people have this one big complaint that always made me go "bwah?" in that you only control one character. Combat in FFXIII is barely about using individual skills and more about pacing and controlling your team as a unit. It's a unique take on Persona 3's system.

Not sure where you are getting your info. Scott is was alive last I heard, and the site was updated only a few days ago. It's only updated once a month to begin with, so I can kind of see where the confusion is coming from. Still, you may know something I don't. Do you have source material?

Not sure how your men/women references fit into the picture, but I'm sure that's misunderstanding on my part. Whatever fries your bacon. *shrugs*

On a personal note, FF9 just made my brain hurt. Stale character personalities, laughable plot devices, and a sad attempt to recapture the "deformed" look of FF7 just turned me off to the game. I played it through to the end, and wish I had the time I spent in it back. Kind of like watching televised golf.

Psst! Comical Exageration... but yeah, he didn't do a new comic in 4 month time before that one and that's counting the pokemon one.

FF13 Fanboy Much? There's girl gamer out there and I think i do a good thing by including them instead of excluding them. Got a problem with that too?

On a personal note, FF13 just made my brain hurt. Stale character personalities, laughable plot devices, and a sad attempt to recapture the "deformed" look of FF8 just turned me off to the game. Corrected some mistake here and there.
Seriously, if you love FF13, congratulation to you. You got your jolly. But man, do you really have to be such a pain to just completely destroy what i say because i don't agree with you?

Hey, aren't you the one that insulted me and i had to report on that FF13 thread three month ago?

Great game, by no means the best FF but still worth a play for the storyline and the awesome graphics.

Alright, I am pretty sure there is miscommunication going on here. Let's see if I can help clear up the issue.

You purposely misquoted much of what I said. Any person looking between my actual quote and what you chopped into pieces would see thus:

1) I said FF9 made my brain hurt, yet you have me quoted as saying FF13. I said deformed look of FF7 in same sentence, you quoted FF8.

2)You stated Scott Ransoomair died. I asked you for source material. Nicely, even.

3) Your men/women reference made no sense. Calling me a FF13 Fanboy does little to clear away the fog of the obscure and asinine.

4) Calling me a FF13 Fanboy on what grounds? I expressed time and again my dislike for it. My dislike for, what, half the FF games produced in the franchise? Even going so far as to post another artist's work showing displeasure for FF13? This makes me a fanboy? Put down the pipe. It's affecting your judgment.

5) No, we haven't met in some other thread, be it FF13 or otherwise. I think I would remember this brand of...well, whatever is affecting your cognitive abilities.

Now, if you wish to intelligently discuss a game, without the misquotes, attempts to troll, and sheer willful ignorance, I will be happy to do so.

Otherwise, 4chan is that way. --->

It's good even though it may be just another FFVII retelling (check Yahtzee), but I kind of like the battle system eventhough if your party leader dies, it's game over......FUCK YOU Final Fantasy XIII!!! My other party members should be competant enough to carry the torch!

At least it's alot better than *shudders* FFXII....

It's the worst Final Fantasy to date and that says something considering how bad 8 and 10...and 10-2 are.

Personally I enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII a lot. It's a very flawed game on many fronts but I was able to overlook most of the problems because I was immersed in the story and actually liked the characters, or at least came to over time. I went into the game genuinely not expecting what I'd be getting and, after the initial slog, came to enjoy it almost as a single-player MMO experience. I've completed the game three times, am currently grinding to get the parts to max out my party's gear (for no real reason) and occasionally will go back to replay the ending.

As far as recent talk concerning a sequel goes, I'd be interested, obviously, but really think it's completely unnecessary. There was only one question that went unanswered at the end of the game and it's one I really don't mind not knowing.

What happened to Bartholomew Estheim at the end of the game?
He was supposed to be at a Cavalry safehouse after the raid in Palumpolum but we never see him again.
Would it have been all that hard to stick him in the ending with Serah and Dajh?

Great story. Meh Gameplay. And it gets ridiculously difficult after a while. 4 hour boss fight? No thanks.
4 hours? Surely you jest.. or use 2 medics and a commando without shifting, and only auto attack maybe?

Well, I've spent a very dull 40 minutes or so trying to get Death to work on a particularly stubborn Adamanatoise. It's no 4 hours, though.

Long Guai maybe?

A) I was messing with you. When i said i corrected some "things" on your threads, that's what i mean. I was also joking about Ransoomair... I did explain myself, but when you need to explain something:
[HEADING=2]It's not funny anymore.[/HEADING]

B) Yeah, well if your offended because I did include Women in a post... Well, you might want to check yourself in. See, i don't care how much YOU have to say in that matter, I'm ok with it and so is everyone else.

C) If i call you fanboy, it from the mountain of Pissed off point you threw at me. I'm not calling you anything. Not once in any post do i make fun of you or your taste in gaming. Yet, you've been at my door spewing insanity. And if your not, Then what are you doing here arguing with me on it? Better yet, don't respond. I don't care.

Oh, and calling it miscommunication doesn't change the thing in the slightest. It's not. Your just pissed about a joke someone else did on the internet. That make this exchange between us the most worthless thing of the decade.

FF fanboys hated it for some reason, and western rpg fan boys also hated it cause anything that tries to tell a deep story over sandbox is evil in there eyes (i love westernrpg but none tell as good a story as the deeper jrpgs, sorry sandbox restricts story telling
Sorry it helps to have decent characters. The only one I even liked, was Sazh. Everyone else I could barely tolerate.
