Ok, I got a Wii U Deluxe and with it I bought NSMB U, Wind Waker HD and Super Mario 3D World. Nintendoland came in the box (yeah, it was an old bundle but it was all the store had). I also bought a Pro Controller.

Now, for my questions:

- The Gamepad comes with a charging cord that plugs into the wall while the Pro Controller came with a USB charging cable. They look similar, are they interchangeable?

- Does Wi Fi (like streaming Netflix on a PS3) interfere with off TV play?

- Is there a way to turn off the Gamepad to save battery life (like during multiplayer on New Super Mario Bros U)?

- Will my Wind Waker (Gamecube) guide work for Wind Waker HD or has it changed too much?

- Are there any other tips you can give to a new Wii U owner?

The Pro Controller one and the Gamepad charger aren't the same. I tried it when I first got my Pro Controller, and I was very saddened to find out that they didn't work with each other. T^T

Wifi doesn't mess with off TV play from what I've seen. The only thing that will mess with it is how far away the Wii U and GamePad are, eventually to where there will either be huge lag or it'll tell you to get back into range with your Wii U.

For Wind Waker HD the only major thing changed for Gameplay is that 3 of the Triforce charts you'd get in dungeons have actually been changed to being the pieces of the Triforce itself, so it saves time. All Pieces of Hearts and optional items, except the Tingle Tuner obviously, are the same from the GameCube version.

I recommend getting the Wonderful 101 because it's a lot of fun.
Also, if you ever want to use a GameCube controller on the Wii U look up this adapter. The adapter converts a Nintendo GameCube controller into a Classic controller and works with any game that allows classic controllers. So I can play Wii U games like Super Mario 3D World, or VC games and Wii games like Majora's Mask or Pandora's Tower, with a GameCube controller. It works really well and there is no delay in it at all. The only thing is that Wavebird Controllers will not work with the device, and the new GameStop controllers don't seem to work with it either. However Nintendo brand controllers and other 3rd party Turbo controllers work just fine on it.

Enjoy your Wii U, I like using mine as an advanced Wii Player. XD

Thanks, I am assuming that Wii games look better on the Wii U than they did on the Wii? Going from Component to HDMI is a step up I would think.

Yeah it does suck that the chargers aren't interchangeable, wonder why Nintendo designed them that way.

I've a question for you. Do you like it? Do you feel it's worth the money?

Tempted to buy the pack from Amazon with Lego City Undercover and Rayman Legends. Then trade in Rayman and a couple of other games for Wind Waker.

Just wary of the supposedly short battery life of the gamepad and needing to buy a Wii remote and Nunchuckto fully use it. Not as fussed about the lack of third party games with the back catalogue of Wii titles etc.

Back when the Wii U was first released, someone on either here, Screwattack or, Destructoid posted an article about how much better Xenoblade Chronicles looked on the U verses the Wii so I think some, if not all, of your Wii games will look a bit better on the U. Granted, some games I've played didn't look too great on the U such as No More Heroes which looks GREAT in motion but bad in cut-scenes, Skyward Sword which looks...smeared...in the background and...well, the Mario and Kirby collection I have/play look great on both consoles so we're all good there.

If you like Nintendoland or, often play with other people I would consider grabbing Game & Wario which is like a Wario-themed variation on Nintendoland though not a new Warioware.

Your guide for the Gamecube version of Wind Waker will be just fine. However, two heart pieces have been moved, along with the Hero's Charm. Of course there is Hero Mode which was pretty awesome.

Neronium covered everything else perfectly. The only other tip I have is to get Pikmin 3 if you enjoyed the first two. Definitely one of my favorite games of the year.

Wait, two Heart Pieces were moved? I could have sworn that they weren't. Kinda shows that I sorta go into a haze when playing Zelda games then. XD

Yup, at the very end of the Savage Labyrinth, you get the Hero's Charm instead of a heart piece in HD. You'll also find a heart piece treasure chart on Pawprint Isle now. That really messed me up when I played Wind Waker HD. >.>

Not really any tips.

Just enjoy it like I've done :D

The Eshop is a great little thing to browse ones a week for sales and stuff.

Also when getting drunk with friends --> Nintendoland :)

EDIT:

One tip actually!

I have DL:ed quite a few games from the eshop, and you should get a portable harddrive for those games
BUT
at least when I bought a portable harddrive, the first one had only a USB connection and drew the power from the WiiU itself, well the WiiU being a pretty weak powered thing couldn't handle the power so it turned itself of after a while.
I bought a second one (got the money back from the old one, luckily) and bought one that had a power cable/source of its own and now it's working just perfectly!

1) No they are not, I recommend buying the bigger battery nintendo put out a couple months ago.

2) It should not.

3) Put the gamepad on the stand, hold the home button, controller settings, turn display off, and then just leave it on the stand. To wake it up again just push any button. It's a bit round about but it's the only way that really works.

4) For the most part yeah you should be fine, the tri-force quest is dramatically trimmed of fat and grind though.

5) Buy the replacement battery for the gamepad it make a dramatic difference to your play time. But don't use the shitty screwdriver it ships with, use a better one.

Te Pro controller charger is a Mini USB connector which is becoming the standard, they probably designed it with that in mind, but somehow messed up with the Gamepad. However I think think the reason is that the gamepad requires more power and things may go wonky if yo use the wrong charger for things so they did this to prevent people from applying too much power to the pro controller since this might cause it to fail.

I would recommend getting the demo to Monster Hunter 3. It's among my favourite games of the year and I've dropped more than 200 hours on it, but it's not for everyone so I wouldn't recommend buying it without testing it first.

Also it's a good idea to get an external hard drive with separate power adapter, I'm guessing 500 GB should be plenty.

Since all of your questions have been answered all I have to add is enjoy.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I do plan to get the high capacity battery. It seems the gamepad charge does not outlast mine at the moment.

The GamePad also suffers from the peoblem that PSPs have: the battery on the GamePad dies over time even when you haven't used it in "x" number of days. It's a very weird design flaw that makes no sense considering that the GamePad and a PS3/PS4 controller use a rechargeable Lithum-ion battery and those controllers keep their charge just fine.

Is that true of the replacement high capacity battery too?

All rechargeable batteries lose charge when just sitting. If you leave them unplugged for an extended period of time the battery may not come back to life. Its not a weird design flaw. It happens to ps3 controllers as well. The point of the gamepad cradle though is to pop in on the charger when you are done which makes that "problem" pretty much non existent. Charge your controller on a regular basis and it wont happen. FYI though, the wii u gamepad has a much higher power draw than the ps3 controller. Probably is significant to how quick the batteries die in relation to eachother, even when "off."
I've never had my PS3 controllers lose a charge at the rate that the GamePad loses it's charge, hence why I compared it to the PSP because the way it loses it's charge and the speed at which it does is very similar to the PSP. Plus since you have to have the wall charge to charge it and can't charge it with say a USB cable then if you were to lose the charger then you'd be screwed because the Wii U will not turn on unless the GamePad has at least some charge.
For the GamePad the longest I ever went without playing my Wii U was about 5 days and the GamePad was completely dead, but meanwhile I've gone without using my PS3 before for like a month and the controller still held up a large charge and it didn't need to be charged until way later.

Really all I'm saying is that they should have also had a way that it could charge like how the PS3 controller can via USB port, but the Pro Controller's mini-usb is different from the GamePads. Or at least have a way to where it won't lose it's charge so quickly. But then I simply remember the words "peripheral" and then a chaching noise goes into my head. XD
