Only My Little Pony, really. And Firefly.

When it comes to games, my taste is wildly different from the average gamer, and I'm also too up to date to not know about any coming/new game at any given time. However, I don't watch much TV if ever, so I rely on ze internet for a lot of spotlighting the obvious things. Though I hate GoT, Breaking Bad and most other current high production shows that are airing right now except Castle.

I have recommended games to people thousands of times though with great success. I'm pretty cool like that.

Don't I nearly always occasionally post on the forums about a game going "Why the hell doesn't anyone talk about X game? This is awesome!"

Like Escape From Butcher Bay or Deus Ex.

Then you guys all come at me with "It was huge when it came out dude, where you on a cave on mars?"

I tried giving Skyrim a shot because I kept hearing great things, but I just couldn't get into it. I'm just not capable of enjoying a fantasy setting that takes itself seriously.

Well, I guess I got into Mass Effect because of the gaming community, though it wasn't through "peer pressure" or anything. Back when there was the huge backlash regarding the ending of Mass Effect 3, it opened my eyes to the series. I never really knew about Mass Effect until then. When I saw it was a spacey game, I kind of wrote it off, as astronomy and sci-fi wasn't interesting to me that time last year. However, when the Mass Effect 3 controversy was in full effect, I started watching some videos on YouTube to get a perspective, and to laugh at the comments. Turns out I was rather interested in it, then began watching an LP of the third game, fell in love with Javik and bought all three games on PC and had a marathon of sorts. That has since helped me gain an interest in space and astronomy too.

So yeah, I guess that counts for this thread. Damn good games, replaying them again right now even.

Yeah, I eventually bought the Orange Box in late 2011. I wasn't going to bother with it since I became so sick of first person shooters and how so many of them look the same. However, I am amazed how good the Orange Box is (especially for the price I got it for). Half Life 2 (the original) is a really great game, got me back into FPS's for a short time.

So one day I said to a friend of mine:

"Hey, I was thinking about checking out this game that I've heard loads of people go on about on the forums."

"Yeah? Which one?" He replies.

"Persona 4"

"Order it right now."

I must have spent at least 200 hours over 2 playthroughs across the original game, I've watched the animation and I bought a Vita because the thought that I could afford to get one plus Persona 4 Golden was my first and last thought of the day for about a week. So Now I'm going through Golden too.
I am in the same boat now as you were then. I've finished watching The Animation and thoroughly loved it. I bought Persona 4 Arena for the PS3 to stem my hunger of all things Persona. It hasn't stemmed it much, lemme say. I just got my paycheck and noticed it was unusually large. Then I remembered I worked Memorial Day...

Also, somewhat sad that this piece of music isn't in the game:

Half a year ago I finally took some of my friends advice to see those *mhm* "cult classics" Cowboy Bebop, Gravity Falls, and Gurren Lagann.

I'm married to them now... one of the friends was a male... the other a female, so its all good.

I'm also planning on buying an N64 from my uncle just so I can get my hands on Banjo Tooie and Mischief Makers.
What is Mischief Makers? No clue, uuuum.. this game:

Yeah I have know idea either. All I know from word of mouth is that its very very VERY underrated, apparently too good, and I want it.

I'm always usually on the late train why it comes to playing something popular (Portal, Mass Effect, and Community to name a few). Most recently, this happened to me with the show Hannibal. The reason I didn't watch Hannibal at first is because it came out around the time that show Bates Motel came out and I really didn't care for Bates Motel much. And, well, being another prequel show about an icon movie (or movies) I sorta looped it in with Bates Motel and didn't bother with it at first. It wasn't until the internet more or less blew up about it and people I followed and respected online couldn't get enough of it did I finally check it out and loved it.

I've been hearing this for a long time now, about how amazing The Walking Dead game is. I chalked it up to hype honestly. But I just kept hearing: "Best game of 2012", "Most emotional game evvvah" , "Seriously, it's the best". It started to seem like everyone had played it excluding myself. Giving in to the pressure, I was tempted to purchase it multiple times, but I could never bring myself to do it. Luckily, the latest humble indie bundle gave me the perfect opportunity to try it out. You know what, you people were right. It was one hell a of a game, glad to have played it.

Other popular things in this community might be worth checking out now. I'm probably gonna start watching Game of Thrones or whatever. Now my question for ya'll is...

Has this, or any other internet community convinced you to buy a game, watch a tv show, or do something that you would probably not have done otherwise? Were you happy you did? Stuff like that.

(I tried my best to make this opening post easy to read. I don't make threads very often, so please be gentle.)
Ok so this might come off a bit jerkish but I don't mean it in that way. I read the comics of Walking dead well before the TV show came out and I just can't watch the TV show because of the variances from the comics. So how is the game different or similar to the show? I have a hard time watching any movie or show when I have read the book first so I am hesitant to play the game as I don't really know where or how it is set up in the WD universe.

I can't really say I've given into pressure from others but I always keep telling myself "I'm gonna watch this, I'm gonna play that" but never really get around to it. I finally forced myself to start watching through Batman: The Animated Series. After that I'm gonna watch Batman Beyond and The Justice League then Static Shock and The Batman. I will then finish off with my favorite show ever, Teen Titans.

Hm, neh nothing sadly :(

I discovered stuff like Portal, ME and dem ponies by myself. I just spend way to much time on the internet, so i usually tend to notice that stuff before "the crowd" does it.

But Extra Credits "Games you might have not tried" had some jewels in it :)

I've read a smidgen of the comic and an episode or two of the show, so I can't be sure. However, a good friend of mine has a great deal of experience with the tv show. His own words "The game is nothing like the show, it really just the same in name and little else." So according to him, the game vastly different to the show.

Recently read the Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire books after the explosion in popularity that followed the release of the TV show. They turned out alright. Might watch the show now.

Oh, and the game FTL. It's fun.

Most of the things I play or watch (TV, not movies) nowadays is vetted through this site, other sites and IRL friends. Music and movies are the only thing I make a full decision myself if I want to pursue it, but am open to suggestions.

This is because of the amount of times I have been disappointed by a game that I thought looked good! For instance, RAGE, which I thought looked awesome! Unfortunately the only thing truely awesome about it were the graphics and design (as long as you liked brown). The game was a bit pants, and got boring quick. And I got fed up of having to shoot enemies upwards of 10 shots each just to kill them! :S

The biggest example of me being persuaded was Sleeping Dogs. I had played the first true crime game, and I had played a few other GTA clones, but not really liked them that much, but after seeing the hype in the Brovengers chat I went and got it... a few days later I emerged, unwashed, unshaven but with the most content feeling I had gotten from a game in a long while! Loved it! :D

As someone who owns the game... it's ridiculously overrated IMO. Despite some admittedly cool boss animations the game is ugly as sin - due to the 64's extremely limited texture cache more than anything. The levels are made of the same multicoloured blocks stuck together to sometimes resemble actual objects, the good guys look exactly the same as the bad guys (who look exactly the same as the scenery - everything has the same stupid Scream face on it). If you can get past the atrocious presentation the level design is interesting enough, there are some cool mechanics, and they at least tried to have memorable characters (though I found them all quite annoying, and there's only so much you can do with having the same sprite with a different hat)... but it wasn't for me. Banjo Tooie on the other hand is awesome (though not as good as Banjo Kazooie. They pushed the N64 a liiiiittle too hard with BT - I swear its average frame rate was like 15fps).

Anyway that's beside the point. What I REALLY want to know is how come The Walking Dead isn't in my Humble Bundle!?

Ok thanks for the info, I might pick it up then even though I have somehow read all the pitalls and suprises in the game already from forum posts lol.

The latest thing I let peer pressure talk me into trying it was the "new" Battlestar Galactica series, and while I can't say I regretted it, I didn't enjoy it either.

Oh, and FTL, and I really didn't like that one.

So I have a PS3 and no Xbox.
So I did not play Mass Effect when it was out and didn't even get 2 or 3 when they hit the PS3.

But EVERYBODY was still talking about it and how the story was so deep and stuff. >.>
Conveniently there is now a Mass Effect bundle thing going on where I can buy all 3 games for a good price.
So I got it a few days ago. I'll be seeing if I like any of it next week when I get time to play it.

Also Dragon's Dogma to some extent. Not as much hype from the internet but a friend of mine wouldn't stop talking about it, so he lent me his copy for a while, and I actually really like it. I should pick up my own copy of at some point, especially since DD: Dark Arisen is out now.
