I never cut mine until the break in my sleep or until they are so long that I can't take the plastic top off my pudding cup because they don't give enough support for me to lift it off being so far from the base of my finger, and in that case I just cut off one. When anybody comes up to ask why they are so long in school I direct them to my friend who I left a scar on their neck with my nails.

I always clip my nails as short as I can. I hate having longer nails...

It all started when I was about fourteen and I heard my sister - who was oblivious to my presence in the room - discuss to her friend how one of her friends was doing foreplay with this girl and...he kind of had long nails and she suffered from pains when she peed. From that point on I cut my nails short; I hadn't even had a sexual partner but the idea of scratching someone by accident now seemed a hell of a lot worse.

I used to bite them, but that degenerated into cleaning them with my mouth. And I cut them once or twice a month.

Not because I like them long, I'm just lazy.

To the EXTREME.

I also have a question in relation to this thread: You know those fake nails that are like an inch long and pure white? Who the hell thinks they look good?!
Please, anyone who thinks they look good, explain to me for I need to know this!
I don't, they kinda remind me of talons - Thus, bird women! ^^ A regular customer of mine has theses nails about an inch long and she can barely hold the change I give her!

dont forget that first, they are not really an inch long because you put them completely over your nail, and second, you are suppose to put nail polish (colored ones) over, so they dont look white.

It's a bit long, but not that extreme, i use less long myself...
I was referring to the type that practically are an inch once applied to the finger, not before it. And while you may put nail polish on them, I still see quite a few people around here who don't, so they just have inch long talons o.o

I clip mine every two or three days. I like to keep them short, else they might interfere with my duties.

I occasionally bang the bejesus out of a nail in my line of work, and get a nice blood-blistery type thing going on underneath it. A sterilized nail/needle/other sharp thing and a couple jabs later, no more pressure. Really gross to watch, but it helps so much it's worth a little pain.

I don't bite my nails as much as I grind them with my teeth (I don't know how to explain it otherwise in English). Otherwise I pretty much let them grow, they keep themself relatively short naturally by being worn down.

My nails are very long, people actually call me "Edward Scissor Hands."

They're just such a nuisance to cut.

And they have white spots on them, does anyone know what that means?

My family says, "They're calcium deposits."

I don't know their credibility, but hey.

Plus, there's always Google...

Apparently it means you have a vitamin deficiency, or bruises on your nails.

I don't think I have bruises, so I guess it must be a deficiency.

Could mean many things. I wouldn't worry about it since in most serious illnesses your nails can predict you'd likely notice other symptoms as well (changes in nails present later than most symptoms), but if you're scared you can always have a doctor check you out just to be sure.

Gah, same here, and I usually keep them short anyway... Unless I use some polish they crack and snap like friggin twigs. I guess I need more calcium...

I've bit my nails since I was young (specifically, the skin around my nails). It was one of those bad habits that became ingrained.

Today, I do it WITHOUT EVEN THINKING O_O

I used to bite them, but now I just leave the little buggers alone, and cut them whenever I notice that they're too long.

Which they are at the moment ¬_¬ They also have a lot of dark green paint under them from painting the oil tank for the parents. Damn chores...

I've bitten fingernails all my life, and can't remember I ever clipped them. However, I'm on the road to recovery, and it's looking pretty decent so far. Out of all 10 fingernails, only 1 is totally ripped off. The rest looks decent enough, not bitten off but nice and smooth.

You should check out John Butler [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeEmuUu6zHg]. He has some serious nails on his right hand.
I'm actually thinking about getting mine like that too. Not as long as his though.
It'll be pretty hard though, as I constantly bite my nails. :p
