Ok, STILL having issues with tabula rasa, still refusing to give up.

Their tech support has blamed it on my ISP, and my ISP's tech support is a bunch of retards. (linking me to their console support site after literally saying I was having trouble with a COMPUTER game. Grr), but I figure, hell, if they blame my ISP they haven't the foggiest what's up. Now, I think that it might be the issue that my modem needs a firmware upgrade, a specific modem problem would explain why I can't seem to find any other cases of my problem. However, going onto Belkin's site, and finding a firmware upgrade, the whole process seems a bit daunting, with notes like "not fully tested" and "make sure you can reset the firmware" and that by NO means may I be allowed to update wirelessly so must directly attach the modem to the computer.

So, how dangerous is it to keep my damn modem up to date, what specifically IS a firmware upgrade, why do I need to be directly attached to the modem and how can I fix it if it all dies because of this. God I feel like a computing incompetent now...

Hey, it has chainguns. That gives it brownie points. :p Plus I have mates on it. Might try and persuade em to change if it doesn't work, but TR seems to have potential.

Ok, sounds fair, just was looking at some forums and found some people saying it wouldn't connect after downloading this particular piece of firmware.

And that would explain it somewhat. Personally I was just looking for drivers for the bloody thing, but can't find any of them on t'internet. Righto, I shall psyche myself up for it shortly. Cheers.

The most common problems from my experience associated with firmware updates is the install of the wrong firmware for a device which often causes the loss of functionality but the device is still capable of accepting further firmware updates (often in the case of different models or versions of the same device) or complete loss of functionality and a dead device that is screwed for all eternity. Although its not all that difficult to locate the correct firmware, as you've indicated it should be on the manufactures site by your specific devices details or on the forums. (Regardless it seems that you've found it anyway...but this is information you need to know or ignore!!)

Anyway what was the problem/s with Tabula Rasa?

I agree with most of the what you say, it is true that many game company's that make MMO's seem to adopt the blame everything and everyone else before their games strategy before looking at the code then realising that it was there problem (Then they release some monstrous sized patch to fix it along with half a million other problems they denied every existed). But its still possible that its as simple as a port forwarding issue with the router. And the game is meant to be comparable with Vista (but then again it is Vista so...), and antivirus and firewalls are the other common likely problem but usually its the first thing that you check. Regardless we well have to wait for Singing Gremlin.

@Singing Gremlin
Can you also indicate along with the problem/s, everything you have tried to correct the problem/s?

Alright, as an update, I did install the firmware, and it promptly died. Well, it still worked, but refused to allow the internet into my computer wirelessly. Via an ethernet, I could fire up a broadband connection, quite why is beyond me but hey. Via this broadband, Tabula ran perfectly. Whether the fault was due to firmware or wireless is beyond me, although if the wireless can run WoW and EvE 2.0 graphics fine I don't see where the problem could be. But hey, the router was old anyway and it was an excuse to replace it. Thanks for the help all!

I have never known a firmware update provided by the manufacturer to ever cause harm or work worse than before. I always recommend updating firmware when available, and follow it up with updating to the latest drivers.
It sounds like he's talking about a beta firmware. Belkin have beta downloads for routers that don't have a finalised update yet, or where they're working on a new version that isn't release ready yet. Beta firmwares are offered at user's own risk. I personally wouldn't use them due to the fact that a faulty firmware can fuck up hardware, whereas beta software can't do anything worse than prompt a reinstall.

Your next step should be to hard reset the router. There will be a pinhole at the back that you push something in and hold for ten seconds or so.

You'll have to re-enter all your internet settings and set your wireless up again after doing this though, so make sure you have them written down.
