The game that brought me to the pattern of self induced immersion and harder core play that landed me as a gamer was probably Super Mario 64. I had played other, older games before hand, but it never really took until the N64 came out.

I really got into this DOS game that me and my dad would play; it involved playing as two giant apes on top of skyscrapers throwing explosive bananas at each other.

After that it was probably Donkey Country which I got bundled with my SNES

Mario on NES. Aswell as Zelda: A Link to the Past. Zelda was an evil game for me as I was about seven and had no idea.

Sonic 2 for sega genesis as well, or maybe it was ecco the dolphin. I played a multitude of different sega games so its pretty hard to remember which one was first.

Either Super Mario World, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles : Turtles in Time! I used to play them with my aunt over at my grandmothers house way back in the day. :p

Heh, mine was also Sonic 2. Well, that was the first one I owned, anyway. I can't remember wether or not I played the first Sonic before Sonic 2...

Incidentally, I make a point of renting every Sonic game that comes out, just to see if it might be enjoyable. Yes, I'm a nostalgic idiot. At least I know it :p

(as a side note, I thought that the sonic adventure games were quite fun for the most part and that Sonic Heroes, despite being very flawed in design, was still enjoyable enough for me to pay 15$ (CAN) for it recently)

The motorcycle racing game built into the Sega Mastersystem. My dad and I were addicted.

But the game I consider to be the one that started me down the road to gaming was Pokemon Red Version for the GBC. It was the first game (and "system") I ever bought. The Mastersystem I "stole" from my cousin. It's a long story. Anyway, Red drew me into a whole new world and I was hooked. Def turned me into a gamer.
