According to Game Informer magazine (via NeoGAF), the game will continue from the events of Mass Effect 2 DLC Arrival, seeing Shepard standing trial back on Earth.

The prologue will see the Reapers attack the planet, leading to Shepard escaping to the Normandy and then recruiting allies to fight off the galaxy-wide invasion.

The Illusive Man will apparently play a larger role in the adventure, wherein Cerberus is now out to kill Shepard instead of helping him.

Confirmed squadmates include Liara, Ashley / Kaiden, Garrus and a new character named James Sanders. While Wrex, Mordin, Legion and Anderson will potentially return, they are all believed to be non-controllable side characters.

The story's conclusion will offer numerous endings based on player choices and which characters are recruited over the course of the game.

Role-playing elements will be expanded from those seen in the second game, with larger skill trees, powers that evolve over time and weapons that can be upgraded with modifications.

All classes in the game can now use any weapon, but will be limited by the amount they can carry at once. The Soldier class will be able to bring everything to the battlefield, for example.

Finally, BioWare has denied early reports that the game will feature multiplayer, but will allegedly consider such a feature for 'future games and spinoffs in the series'.

The firm has previously discussed redesigning the HUD and enemy types, and has confirmed that Black Swan composer Clint Mansell will work on the game's soundtrack.

Mass Effect 3 will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC later this year.
Dear Reapers/Cerberus/anyone else who some:

As long as I've still got Garrus I'll be fine. I'm looking forward to picking a second squadmate from the new lineup.

Legion as a non-combat character? Aww, that's a shame. Mordin I can understand, but Legion barely got any time to be in your squad at all. Colour me disappointed there.

Also, Liara? In your squad? What about the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC? Without spoiling anything, I'd think that would be a huge waste of a plot-arc.

That class-weapon system sounds more annoying than useful too, seems like it limits choice rather than reinforcing it.

I have no further complaints, not enough information. Hopefully we get some surge of information from Bioware soon, probably after some gameplay trailer pops up.

With luck that will be soon. This first bit of info, if reliable, isn't the beacon of light I think most fans are after.

A lot of the details there seem kind of vague (are believed to be non-controllable. I'll miss you Legion :()

On the other hand, Bioware could just be avoiding releasing all the information at once. And, since someone's going to ask it...WHERE'S TALI?! D:

James Sander's is the guy from the ME3 trailer.

I'm calling it.
I wonder if he'll be a Colonel...

Anyway, sounds like they're hybridising 1 & 2 as far as some of the choices go, like weapon upgrade and all classes using all weapons. I reckon this could be really damned good...

Honestly? if Tali wasn't in it, I think Bioware would be swiftly razed to the ground.

It's going...

to continue...

from ARRIVAL?

But, but, but, I haven't bought it!

Until now, I didn't intend to!

On the plus side, I now have some serious motivation to get a damn job already.

If Legion has a role on the level of, say, Liara in LotSB but with another hour or two of story relevance, I'd say that's an acceptable trade off.

Trying to avoid spoilers here.
Anyone willing to give a non-spoilerfied summary here? Keep in mind I have't played Arrival yet, if anyone is willing.

If you've seen the announcement trailer, there aren't many spoilers here.

That would be, yes. I get the feeling if he's not a squad-mate he'll end up only a bit-part player though, like popping up in a conversation to tell you what's going on rather than being a major character. As much as I like him, he isn't so individualised that he's important to the larger picture (hell, he likes to point that out himself).

But, as I said, we didn't get much to see on Legion. I could be wrong, it would be unwise to judge it purely on that tiny bit of information, but my mind's going for the pessimistic assumption.

Okay, thanks guys.
Just read it, and holy fucking dicks. This sounds awesome. Mass Effect 2 with more skill tress? Hell yes. But why no Wrex? I loves me some Wrexikins.

Oh well. Pretty excited now.

Well, Legion functions as the Geth ambassador, more or less. He's the first geth in three centuries to even hint at peace between the geth and organic life, much less directly aid an entire ship of organics.

Given how huge the quarian/geth subplot has been in both games, I would be absolutely STUNNED if a large portion (4-5 hours worth) wasn't dealing with the geth forming an alliance with organics and giving the quarians back their home so everyone can be at fighting strength.
