Apart from the scene where Emile drives the van into that vat of toxic waste and starts melting (which is pretty much a given for a 10 year old), the parts that had that left the biggest impressions on me were when Murphy gets tortured and shot at the beginning of the film, and when Clarence shoots that guy in the legs and leaves him with a live grenade.
I'd never really seen sadism like that before, and it opened my eyes to just how cruel people could be (even though it was fantasy).
I think the first 18 film I ever saw was one of Hammer's Dracula films which was shown on TV when I was very young, and that gave me a nightmare. It was my first real experience of evil and malevolence, a bogeyman figure if you like.
