They got the X-Box didn't they?

Just kidding, I'll probably get this from my cousin once I'm done with Dragon Age, Dragon Age 2, and Little Big Planet 2 (What? I won't?!)

I love how the only people who have commented so far are those who hate the franchise, while the most popular game amongst Escapist users [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/top_games] as a whole right now is Black Ops. In fact, I just bought the game last night.

Anyways, it'll be interesting how the PC crowd will take to the $15 fee. Me thinks it won't go over so well.
I guess it's pretty natural that extremely popular things tend to bring out a vocal counter culture. I hope what I said didn't come across as hateful though. I play, and thoroughly enjoy black ops from time to time. It's fun, my friends/family have it, and I feel like it makes other shooters feel clunky by comparison.

It's far from perfect though, and I'm hoping that NOT buying this map pack will go a long way towards fixing what I consider the biggest fun-sucking problem with black ops: being thrown into a room with a bunch of sergeants and majors on my side, and facing a team that has 80% of their players on their 8th prestige already. I would be just as excited if they announced that all rooms will employ some sort of algorithm that considers total experience and k/d ratio to balance teams, or that treyarch is somehow incentivising the prestige only playlists (like, by tripling the exp needed to multiple prestige, and also tripling the exp you get in prestige only playlists)
I made a pretty sweeping generalization. I didn't mean for it to come off so coarse. To be fair, most of the complains were about the price of the map pack, which is understandable. $15 is quite a lot of money to be spending for such a small DLC.

As for the whole prestige thing, the same could be said for Starcraft or RDR or practically any game with multiplayer. I think it would be nice for the players who are new to CoD, but I have a feeling most players wouldn't like to be micromanaged like that, especially since there are people who are just good at the game regardless. I'm not trying to gloat, but just for an example, I've only got about 4 hours in multiplayer and I'm already level 21 with a 1.15 K/D. It all depends on the player.

1.4 million wrongs does not make 1 right.

Not buying just for some lousy maps.

While that all sounds like a good idea, it'd be one helluva hassle for a company that can't even get menus right. It would also be hell when you get full teams of 6(like my group) with largely varying levels and K/Ds.

I'm only 3rd(or maybe 2nd) prestige myself, and I'm not going any further. I only did it to shut up the people I've been playing with. They bitched when I didn't prestige in CoD4, World at War, or MW2. So I did it 3 times to make up for it. Plus I work 6 days a week and don't have the time to put into it, nor do I really want to spend that much time on it.

As far as my K/D; Well, let's say that I don't care about the game at all, so I spend most of my time with a crossbow or ballistic knife. Or trying to kill people with direct impact stun grenades. The game is really more fun when you don't care.

......Yes they did.

Da' Horrah!

Still thinking to myself where does Activision get off charging $15 for 5 maps and RDR gives you undead nightmare for $10.

Dam it, can't games developers learn to release stuff for free. Back in the good old days where you pay $90AUD for your game and you got all updates for free. Games like Unreal Tournament that released a new map every now and then.

They are even getting stingy by not releasing map making kits. This is because it is cheaper for them to "Port" a game across all platforms. Game developers seem to be more about the $$$$ then player enjoyment and the communities that revolve around it.

Before too long they will charge us for critical bug fixes. That is when gaming will die a painful death.

I'm not even thinking of buying it until they fix the damn PC version.

Even then, I'd probably only get it for the zombie map.

Lol, their menus certainly leave something to be desired, especially right after the game launched, that was a disaster. But coding a balance thing like that would be a cakewalk for people that code for a living. Hell, I have a pretty good idea what the process would be like, and I can hardly code for shit. Also, my balance program would have to be in MATLAB....not sure how willing the team would be to put the whole game into MATLAB.

As for screwing around kills, I usually go for a combination of Yuengling and an underbarrel flamethrower.

I have no problem paying ?15 for the new zombie map. I will most likely get my money's worth from that alone. I see the other four maps as a bonus.

I, for one, can't wait for this to be released.

No, really. If they release it too late, I'll just wait for Battlefield 3 instead.

The problem with the vanilla Black Ops maps was that they were just a flat block of land with some square obstacles interspersed. This map pack looks to change things around a bit so that different playstyles could work and *gasp* add some verticality to the maps.
Perhaps with some of these maps, people will stop whoring on the 74U with rapid fire and grip.

Of course they can be wrong. Sanity isn't statistical. $15 for 5 maps? C'mon people. Still, if you spend enough time playing it you'll get your money's worth.

$15 would have been nice. In Canada it costs $20 for that many points. Luckily received it as a gift. :)

Probably not - especially considering the vast majority of DLC for PC titles have been relatively as close to free as possible. Some have charged, but nowhere near that kind of amount.
