Depends on who asks me, sometimes it is Nazi Germany, other times it's precision engineering.

I know the game- and filmindustry trys very hard to keep everyone thinking that germans are still Nazis. But I´ve got fate that the escapists think different, so tell me (if you don´t mind) what is the first thing that comes to your mind exept a big empty cinema with zombies in brown uniforms and obvious poses attacking you (and maybe a friend).
.
I think of the Holy Roman Empire and The Councillor Otto von Bismark.

I think of this guy:
and of flaming karate chops.

Beyond that I think of hard, cold boots, gray rain, and quality craftsmanship.

Germany? Beer. That's the first thought. Then I think of classical music and Beethoven, Bach, Wagner, etc.

I think about Bismarck. And how the Empire entered WWI. And how that led to WWII. And the Berlin Wall.

I think of many other things than just the Nazis.

Mercedes Benz, cause they are a brilliant vehicle manufacturer

Then Hitler

Then a language that has really bizarre words, I just can't pronounce the words

Try DU BIST EIN HERZLICHEN GLUCKWUNSCH!!! (you are a congratulations)
It makes no sense, but sounds awesome.
Also, freizeitbeschäftigungen (free-time activities) and weihnachtsplätzchen.(particularly festive, this death threat means Christmas cookies.)

I imagine the German Club in my city 'vere ze lager is hearty und ze service is efficient!' Actually, i just think of a whole lot of Top Gear style 'Boring, yet ultra-practical German stereotype' jokes. Which is still an undeserved stereotype, but I suppose it's better than being a Nazi.

World War II, a really shameful period in the history of what otherwise is a really great nation. Then Oktoberfest, and amazing beer.
