I won't say what i think of germany, because i am german, so i leave it to you guys.
Btw. I am kind of happy now, because i would have guessed the first 20 post would contain only one word with four letters.

First thought: Those sausages with cheese in the middle that they sell at the German market around Christmas. They are one of the tastiest things on the planet.

Everyone who didn't immediately say Hitler when they read the topic title is lying. I'm finding it very difficult to think of what I would think because the title is saying "Do you think of Hitler when I say Germany?" If you ask me that question... I am going to think of Hitler.

When someone mentions Germany in conversation, I think that I think of efficiency before I think of Hitler. But I couldn't really say. Also, the context of the conversation would matter greatly.

Usually beer and lederhosen are the first things that pop into my head. More recently now it makes me think of my girlfriend who speaks German.

Otto Von Bizmarck, Bi-planes, Pizza, and unnecessarily long and complicated language, MP40's, Call of duty, Hitlet, WWII, Panzers. In that order.

I think of my stepmother, who is German, and my half-sister who is learning German at university. Then I think about the colours of the flag, and Oktoberfest, and those outfits with the tiny shorts and the feathered caps. Then I think about how I want to start learning German as soon as that duolingo site opens up. Then I might think about swastikas, SS, Hitler, Nazism, etc. But those aren't the first things I think about.

Beer.

That's the first thought that pops into my head.

Then nazis, and I'm sorry for that but that's just the way my society has trained me to think.

"I hate you und your ass face."

'Cos if you're going to indulge in racist humor, why not have it in the form of a rather shonen-ai-ish anime where you're forced to either ignore the fact that all of the characters are closely related or have your brain explode from the creepiness of it all?

I know the game- and filmindustry trys very hard to keep everyone thinking that germans are still Nazis. But I´ve got fate that the escapists think different, so tell me (if you don´t mind) what is the first thing that comes to your mind exept a big empty cinema with zombies in brown uniforms and obvious poses attacking you (and maybe a friend).
My first thought was actually some "Oktoberfest"-ish type thing, like some beer festival and some guy with a mustache is playing a tuba or the like. My second thought was "used to have" Nazis.

My first thought was probably about as stereo-typical, but then again I've never been to Germany, and I honestly don't know what it's really like over there, so yeah.

Y'welcome... pic was sent to me by aforementioned Holsteiner... who, funny story, I took to a showing of Avenue Q and when it approached the 'Schadenfreude' number, laughed, stood up and theatrically pointed to herself when:

Some character from Avenue Q that I can't remember said:
'Taking pleasure at other people's pain...?' ... That is German!

In order, when I hear Germany I think of:

Heckler and Koch
WWII
East/West Berlin w/ wall or blockade
Wagner
Erwin Rommel

Yeah, I'm historically minded.
