the very first thing i think of when i hear Germany is either the Tank Destroyer from Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 or the medic from team fortress 2. the second thing i think of is Zero punctuation and his frequent use of hitler saying Ach

Lederhosen. That was the first thing that came into my head. Then I wondered how they could stand goose stepping in those things. Then I imagined Hitlers army in tracksuits.

Yeah, brilliant thought process there.

this is going to sound horrible but Nazis, but in my defense, Germany is freaking awesome and I've been learning about ww2.

58 seconds in explains the unfortunate truth, you just can't get away from it. The moment somebody says Germany you think it, then you feel really bad about thinking it.

When i think Germany, i think the old beers and sausages that invented much of the American culinary identity and how the people who invented lagers must be rolling in their graves at the sight of things like Pabst Blue Ribbon and Corona.

Rude tourists that come with their caravans to our beaches and always dig a large hole for the whole family to sit in.

While the German caravan folk are very rude and can be obnoxious, most German tourists here are actually very friendly and polite. I don't know why owning a caravan turns a German into a egocentric a-hole, and I also wonder if that behaviour is restricted to the Netherlands, or is also observed by other German people?
That's not restricted to Germans, caravans turn people into wankers. It's scientific science! Just ask the lads at Top Gear what they think of the damned things.

Anyway, the first things that pop into my head are that rather pretty German girl I met at uni, trying and failing to speak the damned language, cars, the German market at Birmingham and the Holy Roman Empire (Yeah, I play too much Medieval 2 Total War)

I think of Nazi Germany, but that's because I'm taking IB European History and have spent the last month getting every fact about Hitler crammed down my throat.

War, Beer, Blondes, and excellent engineering. I've never been there, or met a German, so I can't say much. But i really believe in the excellent engineering part. I've heard almost nothing but praise for anything made in Germany.

In no particular order:

WW2
The sound of the language
Beer
Censorship
German ancestors are one reason for the fall of Rome

Yeah the war is up there. But considering that its the last major War, and just how much happened, that's not a surprise. You could call it a turning point in history. And to be fair, I'd probably think of WW2 if you said a bunch of other countries, too. Like Japan, France, or Italy. So I don't think it is such a bad thing.

"Nazi" flashes in the more reactionary part of my mind (unfortunately) , but then "Holding up the EU" appears.

I just laugh inside my head. They have so funny sounding words, such as Kampfhubschrauber. But then I realize that I'm supposed to write my German "Abitur-exam" (The equilavent of International Baccalaureate Diploma?) in a few months and I turn back into the deeply depressed old me.

Gingerbread! I think of gingerbread houses and lebkuchen. Oh, and nudism - blame Eurotrash for that one.
