The topic seems simple enough. What was the first game you played that spiked your interest in gaming? Or to make it easier, the first one you can remember that did this? How did it spawn your interest in games? Just name it and say why. Mine was the first one I had ever played, which was Mario Cart 64. It was just different to any sort of "game" i'd ever played. Did Chutes and Ladders let you race against other players and throw turtle shells at them to make them lose control of their car? I think not. Soon after I discovered a local arcade that really got my life as a gamer started. One time while I was playing my dad mysteriously disappeared only to have me find him playing Asteroids at the retro booths. Guess it may run in the family.

Soinc and Sonic 2 where earliest games I can remember playing but I sucked at them, could get past the third or fourth level on them most of time. It wasn't until I was much older and went back and completed and discovered the awesomeness of Super Sonic. Special mention though goes to Wipeout the first game I played on the original playstation which transformed me into a full blown gamer.

Duck Hunt / Mario Brothers - These games came together, and were the first games I ever played!

The two games that got me into hardcore PC gaming: Red Alert, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 6.

The game that got me into console gaming: Valkyria Chronicles. If this game had trophies it would have been my first platinum.

The first console game that I really got into was Ogre Battle 64, but that game didn't make buy a console.

I'd have to say the game that got me into gaming was Super Mario 64. My parents used to read the words to me before I could read and play late into the night to get stars for me. I also played some other N64 games and GBA games, but I remember SM64 especially.

Megaman X and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

I was around three or four years old when my mom had bought a SNES off my uncle. I saw the cover for megaman and my tiny mind went nuts. I mean, it was a guy with a cannon for an arm blowing up robots. It was awesomeness overload. I think it also helped that the music was so good.

Then, I popped in Zelda and from there I was hooked. I fell in love with the story. And to this day, it is still my favorite Zelda.

It sucks now, because, I broke the cartridge. >:l

Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Master System when I was four. One of my most fond memories was when kept dying on the Jungle Zone boss, I kicked the system which somehow caused the game to go to the end credits.
Recently, I got a complete copy of the game in perfect condition signed by Yuji Naka himself.

Golden Sun. The first game with any real story in it that I played. Also the summons and psynergy (especially Ragnorok) blew my mind when I saw them.

Super Mario Brothers. I was about 3 or 4 when my parents got a NES and since then rarely does a day go by that I don't play a video game in some way, shape, or form.

My first game was, ironically, a sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2. My second and Third were Duck Hunt and Mario Bros. The one that got me hooked, however, I'd say would be Mario 64. I was 6 and used to 2D games, and seeing 3D game just warped my fragile little mind into that of a glorious gamer!

Funny thing, Mario Kart 64 was also the first game I played that really peaked my interest in video games. I actually bought the Nintendo 64 over the PSX because of that game.
As for handhelds the game that got me into it was Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (which is esentially Super Mario Bros. with some extra content) and Pokemon for the Gameboy Color.

There's a few; The Sims, Age of Empires 2, and Diablo 3

Those three in conjunction "got me into gaming" but it was playing Oblivion after those three which really pulled me in for good.

The very first Tombraider game.
I watched my brother play it then tried it myself.
Probably died over a hundred times and didn't even understand English, loved it all the same though.

Sonic the Hedgehog. Still fun now. I can't believe Dr. Eggman could never beat a guy whos power is running fast.

The first game that got me into gaming was probably Super Smash Bros, because that game is awesome. My parents also tell stories of me playing Super Mario Bros when I was around the age of three...and swearing at the television when I died xD

The first Super Mario World is the first game I can remember playing, and I vaguely remember the feeling of accomplishment when I first beat that first level. But the first game I ever truly loved was Crash Bandicoot 2: The Wrath of Cortex. And I still love all the Crash games from the PS1 era, before Naughty Dog sold it to make Jak and Daxter. I even have Crash Bandicoot 2 on my PSP, and when I was about 10 I wrote a novel based on the first Crash game, which I still have around here somewhere...

Raptor: Call of the Shadows.
That was why I always loved visiting my uncle.
