Does anyone else think that this is going to be incredibly unbalanced?

Regardless of whether they choose Republic or Sith, everyone's going to want to be a Jedi Knight.
You'd be surprised at the amount of people that want to roll Bounty Hunter.

Another advantage Bioware has (and i probably will get shouted at for this but fuck you all) is that they have Mythic with them. Yes WAR wasn't that good (i still shed a tear and hope for Wood Elfs) but they did make Dark Age of Camelot and its still bloody going and was pretty new and epic back in the day.

Looking forward to TOC though, fighting my brother in lightsabre duels of EPIC DOOM! shall be most enjoyable :p

And John your rolling Jedi with me so that we can conquer the universe as father and son . . . . . . . . . . and then hand out cookies and hugs to all the children.

That this is made by BioWare is the only thing that could ever convince me to venture into the world of MMOs - something I've managed to avoid like the plague for the past 5 years.
But this...this will eat my soul.
And I'm kinda OK with that.

Really good article, I liked what I read.

As the Bioware fanboy I am, I'll buy the game regardless of if I have my new computer or not. :p
Pretty much same here. Although got new computer so just waiting. I want to give it a shot anyway, to say I have done

They need to add the Twilight-Twilight as between good and evil not the book...- Jedi.
I think you mean Gray Jedi, but yeah. I can't even RP my Potentium Jedi because Phanius doesn't exist until 1500 years after this game. T_T

Er... you meant dual-wielding lightsabers for that last one, right?

Also, I think you're right. If any game can topple WOW, or at least steal a chunk of its fans, it will be TOR. I mean, have you seen that trailer!? It's fucking epic.

Did you see the trailer for X-Men:Last stand? It was also fucking epic. Too bad the movie sucked.

Honestly, dont trust trailers. Thats how they suck you in. Play the trail first, else you could be in for some disappointment.
Agreed, or at least look at game play footage instead of the irrelevant opening cinematic.

I admit TOR looks awesome and I will be trying it.

But 11 million+ subscribers? You CANT take that many, ever.

I'm looking forward to SW:TOR more than I've looked forward to a game since...well...ever.

Funk's got it right: Bioware is a proven commodity, and KotOR is a proven franchise. And this game is so ambitious that if it's even 3/4 of what it should be, it will still be a gaming experience unlike any that we've ever seen.

"To start off, TOR is sci-fi, not fantasy, which is a huge advantage in itself. "

Funny, I've always seen it as fantasy. We got sword fights "magic" powers, prophecy's and the word destiny is thrown around a lot.

I do love Star Wars, but that's just how I've always seen it.

Yeah, especially considering how many of that 11 million is in China and Korea, where TOR will in all probability not be marketed. :p Don't be fooled, WoW doesn't have remotely 11mil in North America.

I have to ask, do you think these rules can generally apply to the Star Trek online game? Aside from the "EA has money" one. Although does EA really have that much cash? I thought they were losing cash bad overall..?

It sounds incredibly awesome, but I'm guessing there'll be subscription fees...
Shame, I would've bought it but I just can't offord to pay monthly fees for a game. Even one that sounds as good as this...

Subscription fees to play a game that permits me to engage in repetitive mundane tasks, grinding, and obnoxious griefing from others. I just don't see the appeal. I played WoW for a little over 3 years, and you know, after the first year I realized that I was just chasing a dragon. It's the pursuit of nothing, which awaits at the end of a long, miserable, repetitive road. This write your own story bit was what they claimed when UO came out, which, as it turned out, was a thinly veiled way of saying the game had no quests whatsoever.

I'll reserve judgment, but as a WoW oldster, I just don't see myself wanting to go back to that, however redressed it may be.

No. Star Trek isn't as overall popular - especially with modern gamers - as Star Wars, Cryptic doesn't have an existing fanbase of Star Trek games to buoy it as BioWare does with KotOR, and there are no lightsabers.

Last I heard, it was about a 50/50 split East/West. so 6.5~ in NA and Europe (and Australia).

Heh, this might be the game to finally get me into MMOs. I'm planning on going either Inquisitor or Agent, and start off evil, then get gradually more light, as if my character is having a change of heart. They mentioned Light Side and Dark Side points, I'm making the best of it.

That seems really interesting to me, that you can choose your side, but still change your alignment. Have any other MMOs done that?
