Flame war: PS3 vs XBOX360

I own a 360.. But why? I like Halo... Thats why. I dont really bother for Resistance, i like Killzone even less and while the MGS series have its good points, I have managed to beat the games at a friends house, they dont have much replay value for me, while Halo have its coop campaigns.

Other games that I like that was/is exclusives on the 360: Mass Effect 1+2, Fable 1+2 and Gear of War 1+2.

Well I'll have an argument with people about PS3 v 360 sometimes, but thats mostly just for shits and giggles - I don't really flame, I just kinda jest in a "my consoles better than yours, tee hee hee" kind of way...

I don't really know why people will become serious about the matter, maybe its cause they feel 'patriotic' about a certain brand or something?

That was hardly his fault, it would be a bit like blaming Martin Luther King for getting shot. Not that I am comparing the two... But if I was I reckon Jesus would have been more help with a flatpack wardrobe!

In all seriousness, I own an xbox and a wii but don't really like the PS3, why is it hard for some people to understand that?

I think it's more of a case of people throwing their controllers out of their prams and really going off on one who happen to own a different console than their own. I'm not particularly fond of the 360 but I don't start any level of hatred over it; I just find there are no games on it that would interest me really.
Again this isn't a flame war, it's to understand the meaning behind people's animosity and unfounded hatred really

I have a friend who has all three an Xbox, Wii, and a PS3. Know which system he likes best? Wii. Why? COMPLETELY backwards compatible with its predecessor. Yeah the 360 and PS3 have amazing graphics but if you are hit with nostalgia you have to either take the time to hook up the old console if you want to play an older game.

On Topic: The flame wars of the PS3 and the 360 go more with who you like better. It has to do with the EXCLUSIVES for the console more than the console itself. Someone who is a Metal Gear Solid fan DIE HARD I mean those fans not the ones that are like oh its an amazing game the ones that are like OMFG YOU HAVENT PLAYED IT YOU ARE A NOOB!!!! Yeah you have met someone like that before. They then go and get their console so they can play their exclusive games and find out all the best things about the console they have and not the flaws and refuse to listen to what those flaws are no matter what. The things that are better and that are worse about both consoles equal them out so its not much that makes them different besides the price tag and even then the PS3 has gone down in price.

i chalk them up more to trolling than trying to justify a purchase.

i mean i like nikes dont like reebocks but i never felt the need to go on a message forum and try and beat people over the head with the reasons why i perfer one to the other.

too often it just is looking to pick a fight and get attention, any time you go on a forum and flame something looking for a reaction with definitive phrases like "my console pwns ur lame console" or outlandish not even in the realm of reality stuff is trolling, ign exclusive articles are especially bad on both sides taking cheap shots or wild conjecture out one game consoles exclusive that they never even played or may not even be out yet.

the worst offenders are most certainly trolls period, not your average joe trying to convince himself that he bought the right system cause your average joe does not give a flying fig if he wanted to get the right console he would go research it himself before he bought it.

Get this straight, I do not want to start one, I want to discuss one.

I think that each console is as good as it's opponent, even though I do have a 360. I want people's opinions on why it started, and if it matters to you.

One of my thoughts is that if somebody has something, and it's competing with something else, and they can't get it; then they must prove it not worthy of getting. It might be because they don't have money for another console, or just that they are stubborn.

I'm not asking about how good the argument is either way, I'm asking WHY (you think) it's like this.

It's a result of the insecurity in your purchase, mixed with the human need to belong.

We recognise ourselves as being in a certain group, then our mind will conclude that our group is superior in order to boost our self-esteem without having to manipulate our view of ourselves.

IMO, all console gamers desperately need the opposing console to survive and compete. Mankind always performs best when it's competing against itself, and having a rival console of similar success leads to much greater titles being developed. Constant one-upmanship is the fast-track to greatness.

Because of this, I whole heartedly support the concept of console exclusives, and hope for a long continued, and heated, console war. Fanboy flame wars are just a disappointing byproduct of this.

Recently, while playing on Gmod, me and several people agree: Whenever the PS3-360 argument comes up, we'll say the Atari 2600 already won the war.

The reason for the wars is that people want to be sure they made the right decisions about their console.
