Okay I was just playing a flash game more specifically Flood Runner 3 [http://www.kongregate.com/games/benrad/flood-runner-3] and I probably restarted the game about a dozen times because I was having fun each time, and then I started wondering if their were any console games that had sections in them that I would enjoy replaying a dozen times back to back. And truthfully I don't think a know any game level/boss that would be able to hold my attention for more then three or so times if I played it repeatedly.

I guess what I'm wondering is does anyone think that flash games are more fun then console games?
and if anyone can think of a game level they would happily replay a dozen times in one sitting?

a flash game is fun and addictive...

where as a AAA gmae will be a more....."deeper" experience huge impressive visuals and astory ect...

I guess its like comparing a funny/cool youtube video to a film you do see in the cinema

Sorry, but I've been a F2P gamer for years. I'm not going back :/

That is not to say that there isn't a bunch of gems out there; flash games are constantly going the right way and just keeps getting better and better. There are some games that you can just pour hours into. They're still a completely different experience compared to todays AAA games though.

Actually there are many flash games that are done in 3d space, either using 3d illusion animation, or even Papervision3D.

There are three things I would happily play a dozen times back to back, the thousand heartless fight in Kingdom hearts 2, the part in metal gear solid four where yo get to pilot the metal gear and also the final fight from that game, as frustrating as it is, it is a truely great finish to the game.

I honestly thing flash games are equally good to valve games, in that they explore a unique mechanic (mostly) but in general I prefer playing 30 hours of Assassin's Creed II to 30 hours of Gemcraft TD.

Flash games are not better than AAA titles.

It's not that they couldn't be, it's that they simply just aren't. Games worse than flash games are the anomaly.

Why?
Because very rarely do you play a game so intolerable that you'll spend less than half an hour on it, and spending half an hour on a flash games is edging towards near flash-brilliance.

Your mileage may vary. Flash games have a knack for keeping my attention in the moment, something fun to do during a 5 minute break or something that I can let loose on knowing there's little to no commitment to as they're free and easily accessible. I can get in and out anytime I want, any progress I've made is easily replicated or discarded. AAA games tend to require more investment of your time, focus, and money. They have their fast and slow periods, and have the advantage of better graphics, story lines and dialogue, soundtracks, etc. I can milk more enjoyment out of them than flash games over a long period of time, but I generally have to be committed to them. I'm not about pop in my room and turn on the Xbox 360 or the most recent AAA game I bought off Steam for 5 minutes between lectures and study sessions. They're something I set aside a few hours for when my day is over.

In the long run this discussion is like comparing vending machine snacks and a meal I order from a restaurant, they each have their own time and places. I'm not about to take my date out to the vending machine hall in my dorm lobby, and I'm certainly not going to order a three course meal during my 5 minute smoke break.

During Hitman: Blood Money I tended to replay levels over and over again taking different routes or doing a key thing different. Sometimes I made each death look like an accident. Sometimes I went schizophrenic and just opted to take out everyone in a blaze of gunfire and leave no one alive to tell of the deed. At one point I found myself dressed as a drunk Santa in a Playboy Mansion trying to peg some rich pervert's yappy dog with a poisoned sausage before pushing him over a railing into a pool party below. Good times.

Ah, so it's a Java game. Really big difference, I guess.

The Mardek games are better than most SNES RPGs. I really like playing flash games when I'm in between new console/computer games.

I was about to write this topic off as silly, especially after playing that Flood Runner for 4 minutes and closing it, but then I remembered VVVVVV.

Also, Time Fcuk is one of the best puzzlers I've ever played.

Wow! It's like if Limbo actually tried to be a pleasant game rather than draw out the insecurities of my childhood!

To that I recommend this:

And to a lesser extent these:

Well I've noticed some insanely [http://mattmakesgames.com/games/AnUntitledStory.zip] good [http://nifflas.ni2.se/content/Knytt%20Stories/Knytt%20Stories%20121.zip] indie games lying around, but my favourites (those two + lots of others) tend not to be flash games. Flash is probably just more limited than say, C++ or Python or Game Maker or whatever is getting used.

Try out The Last Stand I and II, or the Warfare games, ConArtist is probably the best flash developer out there right now. Plus he's making The Last Stand: Union City, looks to be incredible.
