O god, I loved both of them before I became vegetarian.

Chilled Tofu
I love this stuff so much yet everyone I know hates it.
It's so good for a hot summer night.

I've never had it chilled but that looks really, really good! I've had tofu fried before which was pretty good though not many people would have it that way from what I understand.

Also one of my favorite dishes is a spicy Asian soup that has octopus tentacles which I affectionately refer to as Hentai Soup.
If it's the Korean one I can't think of the name of right now, that's good stuff. I used to get it at a place around here but haven't had been there in a while.

For me...it would have to be lutefisk. Tried it for the first time during the Christmas season...and loved it!

(Bonus points for figuring out which state I live in.)
Unless it's somewhere other than Minnesota, I think that's too obvious to deserve bonus points. I'll take pickled herring as my holiday preserved fish of choice though.

For some strange reason nobody I know, with the exception of one other person, likes Dr. Pepper. Mindboggling.

Ramen noodles. I know that by itself isn't too unusual.
But I like them raw.
I buy some once every week or so, but I havent actually cooked a bag in several years.
I do like it when its cooked as well, I just like it a lot more when its raw.

Same here, I love the stuff but everyone seems to hate it. Another one for me is Root Beer, me being British and American I love the stuff but a lot of British people can't stand it.

Grapefruit.

I don't know why, but no one I know outside of my family likes grapefruit. Myself on the other hand, I am an absolute grapefruit fiend. Got about 4 litres of grapefruit juice in my little fridge here...

Long live grapefruit!
My boyfriend drinks like half a gallon of grapefruit juice a day. It's ridiculous. I find grapefruit too bitter and pretty gross, on the other hand, but here's to show you that you have a comrade out there somewhere.

As for me, I really like...

- Warm potato salad. This cold stuff is weird, like you left it out overnight or something. Why the hell are my potatoes cold?
- Grits. Nobody likes grits anymore. (You can tell I'm Southern...)

In a bit of an inverting of the OP's question, I noticed that everyone in the world seems to love coconut but me.

Can't think of anything except messmör, a pastry. My friends either shun it or doesn't know what it is. My old kindergarden gave it to us, so it's also a bit nostalgic to me.

Messmör is made by taking the whey from cheese and cooking it, afaik. Sounds disgusting. Tastes good!

Fuck yeah!

I also love pizza with pine apple and banana on it. Recall it being rather unpopular.

What's the texture like for takoyaki? That's the only real thing that's been holding me back from trying it (besides not knowing where to get some) as all octo-squid foods before have been very rubbery and not pleasant.

Any kind of curry. None of my friends will touch the stuff but I eat it all the time. Hell, I even make it a lot!

Also, pineapples on pizza. I like it, many do not.

Takoyaki is disgusting and I love octopus. It just tastes fishy (and all the connotations of that word).
Unadon, on the other hand, is delicious

OT: Judging by many of the responses, I'm not sure what people dislike and like anymore.
People hate curry? What? I'm brown, it's like oxygen to me.
All my friends love it too!

I dig fries dipped in milkshakes. That shit is delicious.
Majority of my friends think I'm nuts.

Mexican food is amazing for taking shit ingredients and making it magic.

My favorite tacos are lengua (tongue), cabeza (head meat) and buche (pig stomach, it makes it's own gravy). Menudo is win as well, it's the one food that doesn't taste anything like how it smells (which would be "like the zoo").

Like Cheery Lunatic said on page one, it can be pretty fishy (especially if you get it frozen or, from a crappy restaurant). Otherwise, the octopus part is chewy while the outer part is soft (or doughy if above crap is going on blah). It's actually taken about 3 tries to find a place in my area that has the good stuff...the first place I found that has it kind of half-asses it, the second time I got it frozen (just don't do it if you don't own a deep fryer) and the third time was the charm. Just a final warning though, takoyaki is best right as soon as its done so the potential for a molten food burn is also pretty high.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Marmite yet...

I also really like spicy food, and liberally using Tabasco to heat pizza and stuff up.
