Prepackaged Vegetarian "Alternatives"

My younger sister is a veggie (i know its wrong and as a family of carnivores she brings shame upon us) but on occasions ive tried some of the crap she eats and it tastes like death, and not the delicious meaty murder death you get from a steak.

Though the thought of real food made with just vegetables doesnt bother me, its the processed fungus stuff like Quorn that is nasty.

After reading this topic i have an urge to put on a big mediteranean feast involving a lot of grilled caramelised onions and tomatoes because everyone seems to love them so much.

slightly off topic note: My vegetarian sister doesnt really like vegetables.....go figure that one out.

Let's see:
Avocado for starters. I used to like it, but after having a sub with avocado and getting a bit too full, then walking around in 100 degree weather for about an hour and getting sick, then proceeding to vomit for the first time in years, I ceased to like it, and now I find the very thought of avocado to be nauseating. It's a shame, considering that my love for it was short-lived, as I had only just had it for the first time maybe a month or so before that happened.

Tuna Salad/Chicken Salad/ Cole-slaw. Yeah, I haven't really had much of any of them, but I didn't like them when I had them, and they all look like chunky barf to me, so although I can't actually criticize their taste, I just have no desire to try them at all.

American Cheese/Vienna Sausages. Both things that my dad described to me in such a way that it made me become absolutely disgusted with.

Asparagus. Well, there's an exception for this. If it is sauteed well enough, then I might actually even enjoy it, but plain, it just has a horribly unpalatable bite to it that makes it difficult to eat.

Also, cumin I think it is, that seasoning that is in Italian sausages or something like that, I hate that taste so much, and it ruins whatever it comes in contact with for me.

That's about it I think. Oddly enough, I'm game for more less desirable foods like brains/intestines, or foods from animals we don't normally eat though.

Edit!: OH, and bell peppers. I don't refuse to eat them, and can eat them, but I hate their taste and they add nothing good to whatever they are added to for me. And I hate BBQ sauce now too. I used to like it, but came to dislike it.

Anything that isn't boneless or seedless. I accidentally bought a bag of seeded grapes, and it's just... terrible. There's the deliciously squishy, soft, fleshy part of the grape, but then I bite into the seed and it's like... ugh. It's like when you're eating a delicious omelette and you bite into an eggshell. It's terrible.

This has to have been intentional.

I just--this can't have not been intentional.

Let that sink in for a second.
Party pooper, party pooper! Not liking a certain food doesn't mean someone wants Africans to starve. How much does condemning this thread help Africans get food?

OT - I don't really like caviar that much, they should send my portion to some African kids instead of wasting it on me.

Major internal organs, muscles aside if yer gunna split hairs. That includes eating something whole.
No hearts, no gizzards, no lungs, no brains, no livers, no eyes, etc.

Other than that, I'm either not all that picky, or adventurous.

Edit: I hate avacado.

I get it, but no it's true. Not just making immature jokes. I gag at the sight of milk, can't touch alfredo sauce, the list goes on.

I'm not that picky when it comes to food, unless it's bugs or Dates(fruit), but there's one particular item of food that I refuse to go near:

[HEADING=1]THIS UNHOLY ABOMINATION OF EVIL[/HEADING]

American "Cheese"

I rarely liked it when I was a kid, and pretty much despise it as an adult. There's just something to the taste of it that compares to some plastic-y byproduct. It's even worse when you heat it up, blah.

What kind of food/s you do not dare go near?
I 100000% agree with you but the problem is greater for me, I can't eat dairy so I try to avoid as much as I can. And I grew to hate all cheese (and I try it once and a while and I can't do it) after a while. And it makes me mad because most places that sell sandwichs slap cheese on it so my options are limited.

I also won't eat oysters, they don't make me gag but knowing I ate a batch that made me empty both ends at the same time...just no.

Baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, sweet baked potatoes, sweet mashed potatoes. Love French Fries though, I suppose it's a texture thing, but normal potato dishes just disgust me. I also won't eat salad unless it's all there is in front of me, it's just not enough sustenance to get me through the day, I don't wanna eat leaves.

Asparagus, silverbeet and aubergines. The flavours are absolutely revolting and they make me feel ill.

I do, however, have a fondness for devouring various animals (meats and sea food) that surpasses most people. I blame my vegetarian mother.

Mac'n'cheese, Kraft Dinner, however you want to call it. That stuff makes me ill and I will flat out refuse to eat it. It's terrible.

Wow. I feel for ya, that's a shame. What don't you like about it, just the consistency? I need not point out that milk and alfredo sauce taste very different.

I can think of 2 things I refuse to eat even on brink of starvation.

Critters served raw or even still living. Helloo, ouysters. They look like someone spat a big gob of pleghm in a shell. Knowing these...creatures thrive near sewage pipes doesn't help.

Foods "prepared" by fermentation, though some dairy gets a pass. Special mention to something I have thankfully not encountered personally: hundred year eggs. A hundred year egg is buried into the ground and left to it's own until it turns into an egg-shaped lump on black yello. What kind of lunatic thought that one up?!

For me its Cauliflower. There is nothing appealing about its smell, sight or taste and we already have broccoli which is bad enough, we don't need a hideous clone veggie.

It's not technically a food but...

Milk. I don't drink milk. Never. I just hate the taste. It's a bit nauseating, really.

Oh look, it's this old chestnut again

Look, if you don't like a topic, leave it be. Don't take moral high ground that doesn't exist

Tomatoes and just about anything/everything tomato base and bits have contaminated. I don't like the slimy texture of fresh tomatoes and processed tomato is just too acidic or bitter to handle. I can handle pizza from local pizza places, but forget the chains (you know who they are); the stuff is just too sweet, slopped on, or gross. I make my own spaghetti sauce from scratch and always use Hunts special tomato sauce just for pasta, and it is perfect. Other than those exceptions, tomatoes can just take a hike.

Milk. That weird texture, that strange aftertaste that lingers in the back of your mouth, the way you feel it go all the way down until it hits your stomach... Ick. Just. Ick. I find milk a bigger food offender than tomatoes. At least tomatoes look pretty. Milk just looks pretty disgusting.

Veal just crosses a line where I don't want to cross. It's just... a short life of endless cruelty and... ugh.
Luckily I have a butcher and can actually locally source the rest of my meat (and it's cheaper and better. seriously. find a good butcher).

edit- I cannot stand alcohol except as a preserving agent for extracts. I don't even cook with it.
