What is with that terrible music?
You need "experience" to "level up"?
And why are there a bazillion tutorial messages?
Roller coaster tycoon never had condescending tutorials and handed you the keys to experiment around right away.

And did I see correctly that the only way to create your own rollercoaster is to spend real money on "tickets"?
I also saw the construction time was measured in "hours" and, of course, the game incessantly reminds you that you can "tap this" to spend real money to skip that waiting period.
Pretty impressive. Whales will love this.

Look up some posts above, it's coming alright. It's quality, however, is still in question. But Chris Sawyer himself is apparently working on it so that's a positive sign.

A cookie cutter design so lazily copied from others that I was able to deduce the entire game mechanics after seeing the first frame of gameplay.

Let's see:

1. Standard 'place buildings and paths in a small area, and upgrade them' gameplay

2. Every action takes time (starting at a few seconds and moving to hours/days later on)

3. In game currency can be bought with real money.

4. A special secondary currency exists that solely exists to speed up build time. This currency can only be purchased through spending real money.

5. Some form of friend system that gives benefits for roping everyone you know into playing the game, offering daily rewards for logging on, and no doubt having some sort of Facebook integration.

I've only watched the first 12 seconds of the video. How did I do?

Why do they continue to do this with mobile games. The touch screen could be a great platform for gaming yet somehow they just make mobile games in the stupid pay to win format

It's nothing short of new news and I don't particularly feel devastated by it since the old games still exist and we will eventually get one made for PC, I honestly don't give much in terms of caring for it at this stage, I've known it was going to be bad the moment I heard so I never changed my expectations.

it's also not the end of gaming, either trying to be funny or not it doesn't make a lick of sense to say that.

Don't have time to watch the whole video, but either way its kinda sketchy. I just have hopes that the PC version won't be shit and littered with micro-transactions.

Also did anybody notice that the name of the park was 'Merica Land? I cracked up when I noticed that. Maybe in the PC release (if it's not garbage) that will be the name of my park, either that or 'Murica Land :p

Actually, yes.

Roller Coaster Tycoon is a classic favorite among people who don't play many games, because it's simple and easy to learn (as well as, you know, ROLLER COASTERS WHEEE). Plus, it came in cereal boxes for a while. That's how I got my copy.

OT: Meh. Flashy, but insubstantial. Apparently, they're making a PC version as well, I'll be interested to see how that one turns out.

It's things like this that make me question the sanity of anyone saying that smartphone gaming is 'the way of the future'.

And again, I have to wonder; why the branding? People who'll buy this don't care that it's a Rollercoaster Tycoon game, so the brand is meaningless, and the people who do care are gonna be lining up to burn your HQ to the ground (we're still driving over there; it's gonna be a couple of days before we get there).

Because you're wrong.

Roller Coaster Tycoon is really popular among "non-core" gamers. Every single one of my friends has played and enjoyed it, even though most of them are not "gamers". That's the power of distributing free copies with certain boxes of cereal, as well as being simple and fun.

RCT4 Mobile is going to be a major success, even if only for a short while.

Also, don't burn down Atari's headquarters. They're making a PC version that's "completely different" that has Chris Sawyer onboard, so it's definitely worth the wait-and-see.

I'll believe it'll be "completely different" when I see it... but ok, we'll hold off on lighting Atari on fire until someone releases a Let's Play of the game (Tommy, pull the car over! We're stopping here for the night!... where the **** are we anyway?).

What did you expect from a mobile game?

Second:

No they didn't kill "your childhood" or any other such pointless nerdrage nonsense
This game's existence will in no way, shape or form diminish the originals (which are sublime)
Now... go back to playing the originals.

Why? This Roller Coaster Tycoon is clearly specifically made for the F2P market of mobile devices. The PC market is different and a traditional RT is much more viable there than it is on mobile. You're being a little over-dramatic to say that Roller Coaster Tycoon is FOREVER damaged because of this one title on a new platform, operating under a business strategy specific to that platform.
you guys must pardon my lack of enthusiasm, but if the publsiher feels this was worth showing first before any proper sequel, i have little hope for the future of the series, i seriously hope im wrong, i wouldnt like to say "i told you" i the PC version turns out to be a facebook game

do you seriously believe these casuals have played any of the old games? i find that unlikely, and even if they did, they are more likely to despise this new game than anything

Holy shit.

Honestly, what the fuck, what are all these games thinking by adding in all these "wait x hours or complete instantly by paying" paywalls?
It's not fun, people will pay maybe once and then make a big fat "fuck you" sign in your general direction.

Games make money if they're fun or engaging, this is neither. In fact, it's the exact opposite, you're forcing people to NOT play the damn game.

*Those casuals* would instantly like the old games better when they had the chance to play them though, I'm 100% convinced.

People will pay for something if it's actually fun and engaging, just waiting for shit to complete is the exact opposite.

Believe? I KNOW they did, because I played it WITH them. -___-

I know it's comforting to imagine the world is an "us vs them" drama stage, but it's not. Cut the "But they're casuals" bullshit, because it's just getting painful. People play varying amounts of games, and there's no consistent "one group must love/hate this game" standards.

And no, your ever-despised "casuals" are not likely to hate the game. It's a low-effort "two minutes here and there" distraction, which isn't what I want out of my games, but it's what my never-stop-studying friend wants on those boring train rides where it's too loud to study. I'm probably going to alert her that this exists, because she'll like it for a while.

As for the rest of us... well, there's the upcoming PC version which has a chance of being good. Wait and see.

i think its pretty damn obvious this is an us vs them kind of thing

over the last couple of years casual gaming has evolved from a couple of games with simplified mechanics to appeal to a larger audience (something that isnt inherently wrong), to an over exploitive joke of microtransations with barely any gameplay behind them, designed from the ground up to wage a full blown psychological warfare against the player, timers, different kinds of currency, limited free content, among other disgusting tactics, designed to gain access to the players wallet

theres a generation of people who grew up with this, a generation that thinks this is ok, and while it might sound like a wild assumption, im pretty sure the vast mayority of them havent played any previous game in this series

Repeatedly saying something over and over doesn't magically make you more correct.

Also, no generation "has grown up" with this. Popular usage of skinner-box minimalism has only come around since the dawn of Facebook less than eight years ago. -___-

let me remind you this is the SECOND classic PC franchise this year to be ruined by mobile gaming

also lets look a bit further back and read EA's excuse for microtransactions in dead space 3:
