"For a Wii Game" and why I hate that statement

Simply because its console who's selling point is a gimmick and its simplicity. Every game that's come out for the Wii is either something that's made only to try to prove the nunchuck controller has some value, or is held back because of it. Hopefully motion control based video games will die about the same time 3D does.

What are these "good Wii games" you speak of?
Super Mario galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Okami. I haven't played any other wii games that I enjoyed. Just my opinion, and yes I have played twilight princess and I think it's the worst zelda game.
Really? No one calling this? Okay then I'll just point out that Okami was a PS2 game first and even Nintendo Power recommended the PS2 version over the Wii port.

Its labeled good for a wii game because a majority of the releases on that console is shovelware or party games. So, considering the other games on the wii that are gimmicky and basically the same, some wii games will excell above others. There is also the fact that a lot of the games couldnt be compared to games from other consoles due to technical and gameplay reasons. I have played games that are on both the wii and the Xbox 360/PS3, and the wii games change a LOT about the game. Sometimes even the story is changed to fit better within the concepts of the wii. Things are added and cut to make it better. For this reason you can never really accurately compare game from the wii to other consoles, hence "for a wii game"

Because the standards have been set so low. Partly because the Wii has a huge problem with third party shovel ware which not only sucks, but is generally unimpressive at first sight. Second of all, because 90% of the good games I've played on Wii(all six of them, IMO) would have been as good, or better, on other systems, often because of the fact that the Wii doesn't have the technology behind it that the 360 and PS3 do. It's also worth noting that you can call Move and Natal rip-offs all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that either of them could potentially make the Wii's lone inherent selling point, Motion Control, obsolete

I don't know if anyone realizes this but, hey, guess what the Wii REALLY is...

YES! that's right! With gimmicky controls, an optical drive, and a little more RAM. And I say this with the utmost truth in that I am, in fact, a Wii owner. Can you guess what Wii games I regularly play and enjoy on it?

YES! NONE OF THEM! Except for Super Smash Bros. Brawl when my friends are in town, I never play any of the Wii games I own! They all have the same story attached to them: "It seemed like a good idea at the time." Then I get them home, give it a shot, get tired of flailing my arms around, and go back to doing something else.

I own Zelda: Twilight Princess for Wii as I am a big big Zelda fan but I DO NOT play it. Because I... DO NOT... want to WAGGLE MY FUCKING CONTROLLER AROUND IN A ZELDA GAME!

So I looked for and bought a Gamecube copy of it and I couldn't be happier. At I wouldn't have even had to do that if it only had GC/Classic Controller support built-in.

They say the next Zelda game will be based on the MotionPlus attachment. Bugger me, now I actually have to give a shit or not play it! It probably won't amount to near as much as the feeling one gets for conquering Zelda II on the NES, the only Zelda game ever made with a difficulty so hard that the box must have a label reading "You must be this Asian to play this game."

Speaking of Motion Plus, it is nice but it's a serious battery hog. I use a rechargeable battery pack but it's still inconvenient... and even then, I only have Wii Sports Resort to use it with since it came with the bloody thing! That was fun for a while but at some point, it all becomes a moot point when you realize that there's no real feedback for all your flailing around. There's no reaction to the action that physically affects you, it's just arbitrary swatting-at-flies motions.

Maybe Nintendo can use your ill-gotten soccer mom money they made on the Wii and invest some actual development in the system hardware of their next tiny wonder box.
The picture of the gamecube put a smile on my face. It's true, though, the battery hog is back. I had thought my days of drawers full of dead batteries were over when I bought the SP.

I don't disagree with what you're saying. I just want to know how you figure the money was ill-gotten?
That was a joke. If you want it to be.

The alternate explanation would be "suckering non-gamers into buying their gimmicks to make them feel like they're one of the 'suddenly popular nerdy people.'"
Ah,, I get ya'. I just had to imagine a devious voice saying it in a manner befitting a neurotic maniac. XD

Personally this entire generation of gaming has been lackluster.

I own fewer games this generation than I did 3 years into owning a console last generation.

The PS2/GC/XBOX era had more games that I loved, completely innovative, or that were just fun:

SWBF2
Psychonauts
Shadow of the Colossus
Eternal Darkness
Beyond Good and Evil

to name a few, but the list goes on for me.

This era not so much.

As far as good for "a wii game" goes, its mostly because I don't like how simply because the wii has motion controls, they have to be tacked on without as much as a thought to how they affect gameplay.

No I do not want to shake a wiimote to jump. that is stupid.

No I do not want to hold my nunchuck perfectly still Ultimate Alliance. If I move you even slightly you rotate the camera. What genius thought of this non toggleable feature?

No I do not like that aiming in FPS' is terrible with the wiimote. Aiming to the side turning my character. How do I turn and aim, answer me that WII?

There are easy solutions to all these problems. But no one bothers to try and fix them. I don't need better graphics, but I do expect a modicum of effort to interface the hardware with the software. Bad controls can ruin a completely great game. And that is the majority of the wii titles out there.

The only game I have played that I felt properly used the wiimote controls was Okami. That game I can see the necessity for it. But what is the point of owning the console when there are less than 5 titles that are exclusives that I feel are worth owning?

People say it to get a reaction because they want to feel superior. Just cast aside their ignorance and enjoy the game. Console should have no effect on if it's a good game or not. My taste in games make it so that I find no games I would find good on the 360, but a bounty of good games on my Wii (Zelda, Mario, de Blob, Blast Works) and PS3 (3D Dot game Heroes, Valkyria Chronicles, Uncharted 2), talking about exclusives obviously.

Or just reply "To each their own" as everyone has different ideas of "fun".

It's easier for third parties to make good games on the PS3/360 then it is the Wii and the majority of the market is third party. The majority of third parties also think the Wii is only for Gimmicks and kids simply because it's underpowered and made by Nintendo; thus don't try as hard as they do on the PS3/360. So when someone releases a good game, one they spent time and effort on making something gamers could truly enjoy in the medium, and release it on the Wii people still feel like it's sub-par because it's on an underpowered console; despite it being superior in everything but graphics to the majority of PS3/360 games.

I think most of the people who say "Good for a Wii game" only really care for graphics and storys that have more complexity how much of those graphics are at the screen at one time, forgetting that even simple stories can be engaging level designs can be a visually appealing challenge and that graphics are not major measure of a really good game.

Point is you don't need a powerful console to make a compelling game, and just because it's one console has more processing power doesn't mean a game's automatically better because of it.

When you think of it, when somebody says "It's good for a Wii game," they're really just being a snob.

I don't buy the argument "The Wii is technologically inferior to the PS3 and 360" that doesn't warrant "good for a Wii game" the PS2 is technologically inferior to the PS3 and 360 but its good games are not "good for a PS2 game"

I get the feeling good for a Wii game is because people don't want to admit it is just good because they feel they will be saying the Wii is a good console.
That comparison doesn't really fit. A good Wii game looks and plays like a last gen game. A good PS2 game IS a last gen game.

Pretty much what the above have stated. Personally, I am of the opinion that motion control is more detrimental to the gameplay experience than anything else, so while Mario Galaxy 2 might be the best wii game ever, I'd still rather play just about anything else.

It's great for a wii game, sure, but I don't like wii games.

That. Just what Matt said, it's spot on.

I knew that, but It's a good game on the Wii.
