For People Who Own an Xbox 360 and a PS3...

I find them both incredibly easy to switch between but then I've played on both different console types(taking ps consoles as 1 type as I havent played ps3 much and xbox as the other) alot besides the buttons and controls are mapped out the same on is just slimmer and a bit lighter.

Only problem might be the X button if you see it on screen for either console since they even have the same controller colour you might hit the wrong one if you're used to the other one.

You can get a converter that allows you to use a wired 360 controller on a PS3.

Now, if they made any games worth getting on the thing, I'd bother getting one. And a wired 360 controller... if any of them still exist.

I dont get how everyone says the 360 controller is the fps controller. I dont see how the left joysticks position makes any difference at all.

I dont find it a hassle to change. Usually a few minutes into the game i dont even notice the difference.

The only problem I have is the accept button being opposite. ie. a = accept on a 360 and circle for a PS

Im not going to go into what I dont like about each controller.

I don't own either system and have limited experience with both controllers, but I hated switching back and forth between last-gen's controllers. The 'Cube, the 'Box, and the '2 had very different controllers that played hell to the part of my brain that controls my fingers.

I am used to all controllers (except Xbox original's ones). I don't find it very hard to switch at all.

I own both and don't have a problem. I can't really see why there would be a massive problem with it. They're very similar, the only major difference is the d-pad and joystick on the left side are switched around.

Considering I have a PS3, XBOX 360, wii, and with the wii play Gamecube games, I can say I've never had a problem transitioning between the controllers.

Learning that Square rather than X was the select on the old MGS games on the other hand, was slightly difficult to transition to. My memory might be failing me on the actual buttons by the way.

Alas, some people just adapt easier...? I mean you should see me try to use a Mac. Quite comedic indeed.

I've used Xbox controllers since the Xbox came out.
Side note: I preferred the original, massive controllers to the mini controllers that are all the rage nowadays.
Then moved to the 360, which is similar but slightly different.

PS controllers are very different, as you found out.
I can use the PS controller decently for everything but shooters. I suck with the thing for shooters. Its partly the thumbsticks and partly a horrible trigger design.

I agree with you there (this coming from a PS3 owner). The dualshock3 is not made for FPS's. Perhaps since Halo is not its main franchise, but whatever. The curved in triggers look nice but can get slippery if your hands get sweaty. When I used to hang out with an old friend who had an x-box, I had trouble getting used to the controller since I had a PS2. It's just a matter of getting used to them both. If you spend more time with one then the other you will automatically be better with it, even if both are technically the same.

At first, the switch is a bit of a bugger, but once I've been playing with a new controller for a while, I get used to it.

I have the opposite problem. I'm completely comfortable with PS controllers, but I have a hell of a time with the Xbox 360 controller. That setup on the left hand side just kills me. To be fair, I am able to deal with it after using one for a while, but it definitely is never a quick transition.

I just got my PS3 about 3 weeks ago after playing on nothing but my X360 for the last 18 months. One would think that all the gaming I did with my PS2 would have ingrained the handling of the Playstation controller design deep enough, but I found the transition to be oddly difficult. I'm used to it now, but two things still boggle my mind about the PS3 controller, which are the reduced weight and especially those weird new L2 and R2 buttons... I suppose it was a study in ergonomic design, but those buttons feel like stubby little marshmallows.
Oh, and one thing that still makes me fall flat on my ass are PS3 quicktime events - I've gotten so used to pressing 'A', 'Y' etc. that now I have to think a moment where the circle or square buttons are located, which more often than not means utter failure, death and replaying the damn QTE. xD

Eh, you just get used to it. extra shoulder buttons instead of trigger buttons. Slightly different joysticks- it'll take you a while to get used to the different tilt resistances. Button positions the same, as they've pretty much been since SNES controllers.

It really doesn't take all that long to get used to.

Not hard at all, at least not for me. I've been a multiconsole owner all my life so maybe that helped me out a bit.

I found moving from the Xbox controller to the PS3 one quite easy to be honest. Although before my Xbox my only other consoles were the PS1 and PS2, so maybe it was because I had experience with them in the past.

One thing that I've never felt comfortable with is 3rd party gaming controllers, I've tried quite a few at friends' houses and I can never get used to them. Maybe it's just my expensive taste craving Official hardware.. Or maybe they are genuinely awkward.

I find the Playstation controllers really difficuly to use, it's just too small. I can link my fingers behind it and my thumbs in front, which it why I use the Xbox controller. I'm sure if you really had the time and patience you could wire the inner workings of a PS3 controller into a 360 controller or vice-versa.

It was circle to select if I recall correctly. I don't have an issue with that sort of thing but it always makes me laugh when my friends play my (Japanese) PS3. The cries of 'Argh! Why do I keep going back!' make me laugh every time.

As for the transition between controller, I really have no problem with it. Although the PS3 controller does feel very light after being used to the 360 controller. That said I'm mainly a PC gamer so I barely use either console anyway.

No, I loved it too - the triggers were satifying to click, and I thought that the actuall shape was designed even better that the 360's - it's just so damn comfortable!
