I haven't watched many previews, and I don't plan to. At the very best: Skyrim will be pants-shittingly epic.; At the very worst: Skyrim will be 'meh'.. probably not bad, just 'meh'.; Likely(expected) scenario: Skyrim will be f-ing awesome.

Nothing so far looks amazing or interesting, just a generic viking style fantasy with boring combat. Whether or not the story and characters will be good is still to be seen, but judging from previous Bethesda games I don't have high hopes.

Also I would like to add that I'm already sick of dragons, they've been shown so many times that they are probably the most least interesting thing so far. The bad brawls seem like a more interesting feature than the damn dragons.

I've watched every bit of video I could find on it, and it's only served to hype me up more.

Especially since werewolves are now confirmed. ^_^

Nothing said has really surprised me.

I knew more or less exactly what was going to happen...

Ohh yeah, based on foreshadowing from Oblivion, I can already tell you the plotline will likely focus around the main character becoming emperor. The blades even said "we'll serve the empire until we manage to locate the next dragonborn" if that doesn't scream "plot of Skyrim" I don't know what does...

that being said, I expect it to be similar to Oblivion in scheme, so I should get along with it quite well. (Though I'd get along better if it was closer to Morrowind)

I'm not at all deterred. As far as graphics are concerned, whatever the leaked footage portrayed was likely marred by poor recording quality, not to mention the distortion that comes with uploading the video. Bethesda has shown official footage of the game on the 360 and it looked fine. The combat hasn't made groundbreaking changes for a standard warrior character except dual wielding, but for stealth or mage players? There's a ton of improvements there, from backstabs to increased damage with bows to multiple stages of stealth, to a total of around five types of magic attacks. There's also the improvements to leveling, setting...

Yeah, I'm totally pumped. Less than a week to go...

Well, I have no idea what some people at bitching about, it looks f**ken fantastic, and I can't wait (only 5 more days) some of the additions they are adding seem great, the graphics are awesome for a Open-world RPG (its not a tunnel game like shooters, racers etc). The only thing I do not like about it, is how they changed the armor. Also I'm on the Xbox 360 and the controls for Oblivion were fine and I had no problem killing more then one foe..

Also they said it was going to have a more Morrowind feel then Oblivion feel.

I have tried not to watch or read anything in depth as I want it to be a suprise. I'm notoriously not picky when it comes to slight flaws in games so I think even if it has some I will still love it. I also have a really powerful PC and it's going to look gorgeous. :3

I adore first person RPG's so I'm really very excited for Skyrim. This week cannot go fast enough...

I will never be seen again :p

Personally I've never understood people's issues with the combat in Elder Scrolls; I don't expect this to the best game ever made, but I do expect my Christmas break from Uni to be well and truly occupied. Oh and if you watch the sound of Skyrim trailer, available on this very website, you'll be pleased to hear (pun not intended by the way) that there are considerably more voice actors this time around;

If anyone is wondering what this guy is referring to, there is about six hours of gameplay footage loose on the tubes of the finished version of Skyrim.

I haven't watched anywhere near all of it (because seriously, who has that kind of time?), but I've seen enough.

To answer your question, no it did not change how I feel about the game.

It's basically the same as the last few Bethesda games. Presumably, if you liked Oblivion and Fallout 3 then you'll like Skyrim, because it's more of the same.

As for specific complaints, the non-premade animations are really bad. As a result, the NPCs all look like puppets. Also, combat looks downright dull. Take Fallout 3, remove the VATS system and add duel wielding. That's Skyrim's combat. Thankfully, the spells add some sorely needed variety to the mix.

On the plus side, the outdoor environments look nice (at least to me) and the dragon are pretty cool, albeit extremely generic. If you've seen any of the official preview footage then you'll know what to expect.

Reading through this, I'm realising how little I actually know about the game, how much I've managed to ignore. New things I've found out:

1)There's mammoths? Wow.
2)Finishing moves
3)Chickens
4)Reviving chickens
5)Radiant Quest System

And my friend recently told me they solved (hopefully) the issue where a tiny hill was impossible to climb.

Suffice to say, I'm pumped!

Yes, dragons are generic, but they're only making their presence known in the Elder Scrolls universe now. That delay served to make their appearance all the more effective. If you'd fought at least one or two dragons per game, then yes, they'd have devolved to just another generic foe. I'm not saying dragons are this epic shit and that you're absolutely wrong for thinking they've become mundane, but they still do have a lot of significance in this particular universe.

You want dragon glut? Look in Wizards of the Coast's direction, or TSR.

I'm just hoping Skyrim has one or two quests where you actually talk to a dragon, instead of unilaterally FUS RO DAH-ing their asses as soon as you see them.

Speaking of dragon shouts, I know this thread's mostly about us being nitpicky on a game we'll love to bits anyway, but I'm a little disappointed by the way the shouts were implemented. Each word in the shout is its own audio file and it doesn't so much give the impression of speech as it makes it sound like the Dovahkiin is barking up a tree.

Like I said, nitpicky.

Morrowind and Oblivion were far from perfect. Combat was shit, animations were shit, in Morrowind you had to read everything (which I loved, to be honest), but somehow it's still one of the most awesome video games ever made. And what I see in this topic is bitching about things that won't in any way influence my enjoyment of Skyrim, because I expect it to have the same issues as it's predecessors. If it didn't, I'd suspect that I was in some kind of twilight zone. And I'm a PC gamer so whatever issues this game might has will be remedied by mods.

Oh shit, yes! I'll laugh, and then I'll cry. I'll ask the Gods of Arcadion why game mechanics haven't evolved that much more since the days of Windows '98.

If you want to think of it purely in terms of gameplay complexity or RPG mechanics; games have actually devolved since there are MUDS with levels of user interaction, customization and detail written as hobbies that outshine the modern day AAA games.

What they do would be nigh impossible to implement graphically, since a lot of it involves procedurally generating text. Doing all those permutations for graphics would take decades.
That's also true. Seeing as games take more from film than they do from books, though, my guess is the "show, don't tell" rule precluded everything in modern game design. MUDS have more freedom because they use the written word as their medium, but modern AAA games have to fix things, sort of gel them out and make them permanent.

Considering this, a game with a lot of permanent content and weirdly circumscribed areas of procedural generation is going to feel a little weird. Sort of like how hack-and-slash games tend to have improbable loot come out of improbable locations, or how you're able to find an absolutely bitching gun in the belly of the last Skag you killed in Borderlands.
