For the older gamers (10+ years of gaming), what is your GOTD (game of the decade)?

For me it probably Batman Arkham City or Resident Evil 4. For a slightly less common choice its probably the James Bond game Nightfire, especially in terms of how long I spent on it when I was younger and even now.

Honourable mentions go to RDR, Everything or Nothing, Time Spliters 2 and Future Perfect, The list goes on!

I am a gamer of Nineteen years old and have been gaming for 16 years thus you may consider my opinion valid. :3

My game of the decade would be Mass Effect 1. The reasoning behind this is the sheer overwhelming atmosphere it brought to the table. Even though the combat left some to be desired, from the asthetics of the citadel to the sheer expansive and lonely planets you could expore to the massive dialogue options. I would not name any other game the game of the decade with as much reverence as the first Mass Effect

Will I be burned alive for saying World of Warcraft? Seriously, in terms of cultural impact, that's pretty much head-and-shoulders above a lot of stuff.
In this medium, though, it's hard to crown a "best of the decade," just because things move so damn fast.

Halo. The first one. It changed the way I looked at games, opened me up to the world of hardcore gaming and persuaded me to get an Xbox and a 360, which bridged the gap for me to get so many other fantastic games. Also, it was so much fun and kicked ass. There is no other game I would rather play with my best friend than Halo.

I'm going to have to go with Suikoden 3, I don't think that I've ever replayed through a game so many times and still plan on playing it again and again (9 times as of this writing, hoping for 10 by the end of the year!)

Sure there have been games where I have put in considerably more hours (Final Fantasy 10 had between 1700-2000 hours of total playtime) But Suikoden 3 is a game I know I will always want to play no matter how old I get. Hell it's one of the main reasons I kept my ps2 plugged into a tv for the last how many years

Purely throwing this out because it is what made me a PC gamer, but Half-Life 2.

You would not believe the time I spent just brutalizing the demo through use of console commands. Gaming history, there.

And there's Oblivion, part of the reason I love exploration. Because I could just walk around and stumble upon a random hovel that has someone inside whose lover has been kidnapped or something.

It's a tie between those two, honestly.

Unless Metal Gear solid 2: Sons of liberty counts (It was released in late '01). I'd put my vote in for that, just for the tanker segment alone. The whole game is my favorite. But I forget that a lot because I haven't been able to play it in about seven years.

Pretty much says it all up there. What's your favorite game from the last 10 years?

For me to consider your opinion "valid", you have to have been gaming for at least the last 10 years.

Me? I'm going to go with Red Dead Redemption. The game is pretty much the perfect western. I still play it to this day, and will for a long, long time (even if a better sequel emerges, Kind of like how I feel about Mega Man 2). I often just put the game in, ride out to a nice spot, and let the screensaver camera kick in while I do stuff on my computer or cook food or what have you.

So, yeah... what's your game of the decade?

EDIT: 2001-2011, for clarification.

Also, don't pick a list. You have to pick 1. That's the challenge, and in that challenge, the fun.
As much as I love RDR, (and said love is well documented) I don't think its game of the decade. I'm gonna go with Duke Nukem Forever. :D

Starflight for the Sega Genesis 1991. My young mind couldn't handle the amount of exploration and awesome it was at the time. It also spawned the Mass Effect series.

Which decade? Noughties? Deus Ex. 2010s? Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

I'm a fanboy, I'm obligated to reply with that.

For me, it would probably be Fable: The Lost Chapters; mostly because I feel connected with the game as I spent most of my early teens playing it. It's not so much that I think the game is perfect, as, it's my personal favorite.

To be fair, the game I DO think is perfect (or close to) is Dragon Age: Origins - The PC version I mean; the Xbox one is inferior, especially in terms of combat.

for me has to be mass effect 1, being a massive sci-fi fan it was amazing to see such a massive, deep and open world with so much attention to making it feel like a galactic community and an epic story to accompany all this, nothing came close to it for me.

I disagree with your criteria. Just because someone hasn't been gaming for 10 years, does not mean that they haven't played various games from throughout the decade.

Anyway, with that off my chest, I'd have to say that my game of the decade is actually the first game I ever played, Metroid Prime. Of course, not simply because it is my first game, but also because of the quality. I would never judge a game to be better purely based on Nostalgia.

inFamous. Rare is it for me to play a game all the way through more than 5 times in less than 6 months.
