So..For those who don't know, a fairly big announcement has been made on the game today.

"The removal of free trade and the Wilderness back in 2007 was not an easy decision to make, but a neccessary one to make at the time. Since then, we've evolved how we combat bots and gold farmers. As such, we want to offer players the chance to vote on whether or not we bring back free trade and the old Wilderness."

http://www.runescape.com/wilderness <--- A link to the poll.

This is gonna be huge for this game. It's either going to boost the amount of players by a dramatic amount, or ruin the game. Suddenly reintroducing no trading limits could really upset the already sick economy.

So what do we think?

EDIT: 700k votes in 5 hours.. O.O

I remember my Runescape days.

An okay MMO, but when they got rid of free trading and the Wilderness, I said fuck that, so I'm happy to see a chance for it to return.

Still, I was on the forums for a while. I'd love to return to see if friends I made are still there, but I'm not paying $5+ a month for it.

they bring them both back and I will start playing again, a free market was fantastic and it really killed the immersion and just made me feel like I was playing in Zimbabwe

That was the big reason i stopped playing, PvP in the wilderness was pretty much all i did.

Good to see a chance at a return.

Honestly? I don't give a fuck. I've got better games to play than that piece of shit.
Cheers for the input.
No problem. Happy to be the one who says that, so you don't get millions of posts like it.

You can log into the game without paying if you still remember your account name, even if you don't and you ever paid by credit card in the past they should be able to find the account name for you. You can then see if your friends are on at the time and if your account has over a certain number of levels in the game you can post on the forums with a free account.

OT: I'm not sure the return of the wildy will make a big impact; the combat minigames seem alright and the wildy is just used by 13 year olds to scam other 13 year olds.

I'm more interested in the return of free-trade, I love the idea but hate the fact that it will mean an increase in the number of bots and Chinese gold farmers.

I'd consider playing Runescape again if they made it a one-time payment thing instead of having to pay monthly.

Heh...oh runescape....

It's been years since I've played it. And I do still stand by the statement that it really is probably one of the best MMO's out there. It just has a flaw with how it works; If you leave it for something else, or play other games before hand, it just won't feel right. The only time I ever play it now is for a single day every holiday (and have been for the past few years) because I'm a collectible whore. Runescape is not a game you can leave and play, just for example purposes only, WoW and then go back to or start for the first time. Being a browser game they are able to update it weekly with either content or constant fixes; And that's why i mention that, they released new content consistently. No long periods of wait (although they did have that too. Player houses finally came out a while after I stopped) for quests they'd just show up one day and say "o hai!..we haz new stuff. go play kthnx". I'm even ashamed to admit it was the first game I followed its plot and back story extensively to the point where I could help explain why something was a certain way or what happened to something/somewhere without much thought.

But once you leave, playing it again is near impossible. That's due to many reasons; Community, getting used to all the changes, etc. Constantly changing is great, but after being gone you just can't do it anymore.

BUT anyway!...I started rambling... I wasn't aware they ditched free trade (although good for the removal of the wilderness. I always hated that bloody place. The game was hard enough with the "only keep 3 items" if you die rule and having a pvp where if you die you lose everything was a bit bleh). I'm all for having free trade back in, if I play it now or not.

It's been a while since I visited good old Gielinor...

but personally, I never liked the wild (got killed way too often out there), but the creatures they brought in to replace player killers are rape machines for low levels... at least players can't block your teleporting.

And as for free trade... yeah, restricted trade kind of sucks, but the game compensates for having a huge marketplace where you can trade anything and everything.

Jeepers, I remember playing when this was put in.

The free trade thing is a pain, now it is being removed it will be easy to trade with your other accounts again.

I wonder which way the poll will go ...

I remember playing it back when I was thirteen or something. I sucked at it.
Looking back, and realizing that I was playing that game on christmas-eve, I'm infinitely glad that I stopped.
