It's not that I don't like cosplay, I just don't like doing cosplay myself. Others can do it and that's fine, but I don't like standing out like that at an anime convention. It makes me feel out of my comfort zone.

As for others, I LOVE seeing really good cosplay, but the really bad ones are just ridiculous sometimes. Sometimes the cosplay skits at conventions are really good, but I usually don't go to the cosplay contests - I'm off playing games in the gaming room or running a panel.

I only like it when people take the time to cosplay right. Like these people.

So the gist of it going from the replies on this thread is: "It's OK as long as the girls are hot".

I'm not a huge fan of Cosplay, I don't hate it though. When costumes are truly well done and original, that's when it succeeds. When everybody is dressed as the same popular character, or people are dressed as anime or JRPG characters, and they don't quite fit the part. That's when it fails, you can only see so many fat Clouds or Sephiroth's before you lose it, and there's usually like 10 at every event.

Being a game junkie like myself though, I do have to venture to one of these expos at some point. Looking like I do though, I can't really go as anybody really outlandish. I'm pretty much limited to Mario or Frank West given my looks and body type.

I had my first real experience with cosplay last year at blizzcon and most were very good. The best though was this one.

I apologize for the crappy picture but I had a very bad spot and had to take pictures of the big screens for the costume contest. Luckily I got some pictures of the cosplayers when they were out and about before hand. This next guy was not walking around in his...and its understandable when you see it.

That is a 10ft tall Kel'Thuzad puppet complete with a Mr.Bigglesworth plush, controlled an worn by a person hidden in the skirt half. Sadly it lost to this chick.

She's the one in the middle dressed as a Mistress of Pain from Diablo. For the life of me I can't figure out why she won. (For the record Blizzcon had a lingering "stank" all that first day and it was nauseating. Come on people SHOWER)

I suppose I just don't understand it. I've never felt the compulsion to dress up as anything from even my most favourite shows and I think doing so is a big fat waste of time.

Although I do utterly respect the men and women who put absolutely no effort into a costume. Seeing a shoddy mockery of a popular character is funny. It's the people who put insane amounts of time into a costume I don't understand.

It's pretty fun, but only if you know what the hell people are dressed as, otherwise it's pointless. Since I never got into anime/manga, most of it goes right over my head. But the costumes that people actually spent days working on deserve respect for sheer determination.
For example...

Why should I care if you want to dress up as fictional characters? Why should you care what I think about it?

I can relate with the maid thing, I realy don't find it sexy and/or cute.

Though could caused after a party excessive drinking and then going online.

I found something maid related that took 2-3 month to desentized over it since it could not be unseen.

If you REAlY want to know what I have seen, look at your own risk.

I'm really debating over whether or not to look.

I'm still recovering from reading the plot of The Human Centipede. I think 2 things might kill me.

Also, I find cosplay odd, but I don't really care if others want to do it - personally I don't see the appeal.

Well I posted this not only for you but to everyone who is watching this thread.
I figured there are always people who would click on those things just to see what it is( I'm one of those people :) ).
Now that I think about what I just did, isn't maybe the smartest nor nicest thing to do.
Sorry about that, I kinda did this on a impuls(=right term?).

Generally the kind of people who are cosplayers and the characters that they play. That's what turns me off for the most part.

Actually, I was at Video Games Live yesterday and the guy who won the cosplay contest dressed up as Earthworm Jim. All of the girls who dressed up in these elaborate JRPG character costumes or whatever were so disappointed.
In what world does clapping and leaving stage look like being disappointed? He deserved it. Don't make stuff up just because you don't have a good story without it.

On topic, I cosplay but people who act like the character that they're dressed up as freak me out.

Believe it or not that's not the case at all. The whole point to cosplay is trying to get it as close to the real thing as possible, and a great deal of that is recognizing what you can and can't cosplay as. People who look good make bad cosplayers as well you know- more to the fact though its people who look bad, and then go on to make bad cosplay that get shit thrown at them because of it. Really the thought is, "Have you no shame?"

This. I always wanted to dress up as Gordon Freeman, but so help me god, I don't even look close. Even if I had the perfect costume, I still wouldn't even look close.

I can only dislike cosplaying when it's done horribly wrong. When done right and perfect (in addition to just dressing up like the character they act like them.)
and maybe even this

I cannot begin to say how awesome that was.

Cosplay is fine, but if it looks like you didn't even try, then....meh.
