Wow. Maybe people are just more fond of Rockband.

Yoko helped create the Beatles:Rock Band game where as Courtny Love threatened to destroy a game becuase of her late husband's inclusion.

I am a fan of Nirvana but it's just a character model. No diffrent from Johnny Cash and the other singers (Haven't been following it so I don't know who will be included) and band members.

Does Beetles: Rock Band have Lennon performing that carmel dansen thing with the dance? No, because it was obvious that they would be doing Beetles songs. Love was just asked to sign off on the Cobain avatar.

Edit; Anyway there was some complaining about Yoko Ono demanding a lot of last minute changes to the game which they complied with.

I was going to make a whole speech about Kobain's ideals. However, you gave a better answer...
His ideals don't mean anything, he was a hypocrite. If he was so anti-label then he could have just stay on their indie label or started their own. He sold his ideals for money and fame. What's one of their most popular albums? MTV Unplugged, you cant sell out any harder then that.
Then those kids who suicided themselves by beleiving they'll join their "hero" did this for nothing.

Then again... who knows? Maybe it's your theory. Maybe it's that one that my friends keeps bugging me about he's a hero and people followed him after his death. (This one). (He saw your post and bugged me to this response).

Me, I'm a bit like you. I find it weird that he went mainstream and didn't want to be the mainstream guy. Hypocrite? Maybe...

I didnt think either of them would care, since Courtney Love is an idiot and will raise a fuss over anything

the reason why is probably because he killed himself because he didnt want his music to go mainstream. he was also disturbed and it wouldnt be right to put a manic depressive in a game as something he isnt.

It's a bit bloody late now, Courtney. In any cae, the whole Guitar Hero and Rock Band circus is a continuation of the total sell-out of rock music: it comes as no surprise to have Kurt Cobain as an unlockable chracter, even if it goes against his image.
Courtney Love is so hated, anyway, that people will even side with a conglomerate like Activision over her: and that is real hate.

kurt was a manic depressive, it wouldnt be right to put him in a game...he killed himself because his music went mainstream. also would it be smart to put nirvana songs in a childs game.

Kurt Cobain used to phone MTV up and ask why his vidoes weren't played more often: in truth he desperately wanted to be successful. Of course I agree, though, that his appearance in this game goes against his image as anti-corporate artist. But as to his not approving of this...I'm not sure it's so clear-cut as people like to make it.

If Cobain where alive today I'm more than sure he would refuse to even come near Activision. We all know that Love has been a media whore ever since she got together with Kurt, so who knows what would've really happened if he where alive today. But this is the kind of things he hated, and actually stood up against.
True story. I felt the same way when they released Kurt's journals as a book. Same principle.

I personally don't care one way or the other about Cobain's inclusion in the game but I am curious about why so many people seem to be up in arms over it. Recycling dead guys is nothing new; The Beatles: Rock Band [http://www.thebeatlesrockband.com/] certainly didn't shy away from it and Cobain is sharing the Guitar Hero 5 stage with the late, great Johnny Cash, yet nobody says a word about his presence.
this wouldn't be such a great deal if it weren't the mysterious circumstances regarding the death of cobain. the cult that arose from this incident, as well as the impact on the band members has without doubt had a huge influence on these remarks to activision.

when you look at john lennon or johnny cash (all due respect to both), there was nothing of a similar mysterious nature linked to either of those people. for cash there was none because of not rending a band and of a seemingly natural death at his age; for lennon there was none because the lessons he preached were to make peace. however, this in no way makes activision more right to include any number of deceased people into their games.

i believe the saying, "let sleeping dogs lie" is apt here.

I'm just going to say this.

In Beatles Rockband, the characters only play Beatles Songs, and non-Beatles Rockband DLC isn't playable in the game, and Beatles Rockband DLC will be exclusive to Beatles Rockband.

Imagine John Lennon singing Aqua's Barbie Girl, and you might get an idea why this is a pretty crappy thing to do to a dead legend.

It's just sort of unimaginable for someone who was around for Nirvana. I mean, it's natural--Nirvana is a long damn time ago and Dave Grohl is...maybe more famous as an individual now than he was back then. It's just a sign of how times change and move on.
Not only that, but Dave Grohl is a FAR better musician than he ever was in Nirvana, not to mention a way better front man.

As far as the whole controversy...

Im thinking its a publicity stunt to get the game out there. Companies do this kind of shit all the time. Release a product, make up a "controversy", sell even more units, it makes even more money because people will "have to buy it before they lock the Cobain character". Its been done over and over and over.

What's so wow about someone who doesn't like Nirvana not knowing about it's members?
it's not so much about whether you like them or not - honestly i don't care. it's that you don't acknowledge the history behind the band, and what they have done for evolving music. getting cocky with ignorant statements is not a great way to show off what is supposed to be your intelligence.

and before you ask, YES IT WAS IMPLIED IN YOUR SENTENCE.

I like a few of Nirvana's songs, but the fact of the matter is it's all in the contract.

Nirvana only really has so much of a rabid fanbase because it was when people started to associate themselves with genres more, like the mods and f*cking rockers. *teenage girl voice* "I agree with Kurt, I'm hate the music industry so much I'm going to go out of my way to get everything he's ever recorded and every poster and all the t-shirts so I can show my support". This will happen again in another 5 years or so when some of today's big artists have off'd themsleves after making thier band preachy and whiney and the next big developer tries to please some fans...
