Is it just me, or is anyone else sick to death of this argument? Or is it just me.

My thoughts:

Minecraft DID NOT rip off infiniminer. Yes infiniminer is about mining/building in an open world, and yes, minecraft's survival test is a rip off of it, but guess what? Look at indev (first paid vierson of minecraft), crafting (which infiniminer did not have) Inventory, and a whole host of new features. Anyone playing indev and then infiniminer would not say that minecraft was a rip off of infiniminer, since minecraft has too many additions. However, from all i have seen of the fortresscraft vids, it's a HD minecraft classic. Classic, as in the free version of minecraft. And it's asking money for this. I'm not against the game, but it's like say, if coke decided randomly to make half of it's cans free. Would you, if they are both at the same store, get the free one or the one what costs money? No brainer for me.

Also, from looking at fortresscraft's community, it is full of CoD players, you know, that people who think half life is crap because you don't get to shoot someone the second minute of the single player. I don't think that a game like fortresscraft/minecraft will hold their attention for long, When it comes out and they buy it, they will probably play it once, get bored and quit. forever.

My last argument is to do with World of Warcraft:

You know how WoW has slaughtered any rivals it has? Do you know why that is? It is because WoW has 10 years of development and polish behind it. No game has that much development behind it, and as such, no game could feel as polished. Same with fortresscraft and minecraft. Fortresscraft has a much shorter development time, and because of that, it is basically impossible that it could be as good as minecraft. All i see fortresscraft doing is opening up the Xbox users to minecraft, and then have said players realise how much more polished minecraft is.

That said, i can not talk about the full version of fortresscraft, i can only talk about the fortresscraft that i have seen in adds, i have no idea weather the final version of fortress craft will look like, or if it is better than minecraft. I have no idea.

How do we know that FortressCraft is just a rip-off though? Has anyone here played it? Has anyone played with the mechanics and all that? No, nobody but the creators have.

So dismissing it as a rip-off before its released and we've gotten a chance to try it is just stupid. To my knowledge nobody did that with Minecraft, so who should this be any different?

Is it because Minecraft is still being worked on? Who knows, maybe it'll inspire some competition between the two and we, the customers, get 2 great products out of it.

Who knows, maybe I'll actually stick with FortressCraft for more then 2 weeks before I stop playing it because its boring.
Maybe we will get two great rival games out of it, but ive proven myself good at identifying game mechanics from pictures alone. This happens to be one thats hits a nerve.

Not saying im always right. Im merely right most of the time.
Well good for you. I'm just sick of everyone outright dismissing it as a rip-off. Especially when I criticize other games before they're released, I get verbally *****-slapped by people because I'm "judging it before I played it" or some bullshit like that. Its shit like this that really pisses me off, and I wish people would start being fucking consistent with this crap.

Sorry, ranted a little there. Just fired up.
Except that here they have every reason to call it a rip-off, because it genuinely looks like one.
Battlefield 3 looks like any other generic shooter(seriously, if nobody said it was Battlefield 3 I would have assumed it was the next Medal of Honor). Fallout 3 looks like brown ass. Team Fortress 2 looks like a light-hearted "casual" game. Maximo looks cartoon-y and easy.

Point is, looks aren't everything. Battlefield 3 seems to be highly anticipated. Fallout 3 is considered a fantastic game. And Team Fortress 2 is one of the most loved PC games by the "hardcore" crowd. And Maximo is fucking insanely hard. I just think that people should wait to play until they cast such hard judgement. From the looks of the chapters, it seems it has quite a bit of stuff that Minecraft doesn't have. And again, with both of these existing, they could build off each other, making better products, which is good for everyone.
This is a bit different, though... deconstructing and moving a world made entirely of cubes?

I'd like to see it do well, though. Notch might be running low on ideas.

That didn't change my opinion. Plus the creator of fortresscraft promised zombies and skeletons that just so happen to shoot arrows. Definitely not going to be a ripoff.

He's not even done developing the first chapter. Do you all have a creeper up your asses? :)

The first chapter will be like creative mode and then he'll be adding content from there. This is comparable to how Minecraft updated.

I think I'll wait until the guy actually releases the game to offer my "oh so important" judgement.

That said, I'm sick of everyone yelling "rip-off". Minecraft was a copy/paste of Infiniminer until Notch tweaked it to the point that you wouldn't know, because it changed so much.
Wait, did you just say that it is a rip-off, except that it is incredibly different?

As it is, this game IS a ripoff of Minecraft, and I don't give a shit. It was bound to happen anyway, and I can just ignore this. Minecraft is a success, therefore it will have clones (which can sometimes be good in their own right). In short, just because it's a ripoff of Minecraft, a game I and many of us absolutely love, doesn't mean we should care about this.

Also, how do you misspell "engine"... look closely, he spelled it "enguine."

It's a blatant copy and they are lucky Mojang didn't take precautions to protect their property. Notch didn't even put pesky DRM in out of good faith in the community and now some jerk cloned it, changed the name a bit and resold it. that is a dick move.

It's too late for legal action, and i hate when companies resort to such things. so I'll just have to hope the gamer community handles this one themselves.

I'm not sure why people are trying to lobby that this isn't just a Minecraft clone. Are you getting paid? You are deluding yourself if you think its not the same game.

That doesn't mean its illegal or that putting it on Live isn't a goods idea. Its a great idea. Its a gold mine and I'm sure the "developers" will make a good amount of money. They shouldn't be proud of it though. If it weren't for the fact that its going to be on Xbox, it would fade away like all the other Minecraft clones like Manic Digger and Cubelands.

Everything is a Rip-Off of something, the difference is:How Obvious and shameless they are.

But that doesn't mean the really obvious and shameless Rip-off is a bad game, the said Rip-Off can be really good.

Will it better than the game it ripped-off from? i don't know, maybe? We'll see.

I find it quite hilarious that people are trying so hard to convince people that FortressCraft isn't a rip off based upon what it might one day be. If the game evolves, then so be it. But people are criticizing based upon what's there now. If you tell me that FC is not a Minecraft rip off, then I'll laugh at you. If you tell me that FC is still in it's infancy and is eventually going to provide a different play experience, then I'll humor you for now. If it plays out like you say, I might even buy it (if it ever comes to PC).

This is ridiculous. It's been said before, and I'll say it again "Minecraft started as an exact clone of Infiniminer." In fact early videos from Notch have him stating that he was working on an Infiniminer clone. Now, what happened? Notch adds his own ideas, survival, etc. Why does everyone attack Arcas for doing the same? All the picture's that have been shown are for multiplayer lego? Could everyone have the decency to not freak out at a few pictures from Chapter 1? Instead be respectful and let DJ Arcas change and add his own ideas to the game. Let him make FortressCraft his own. And then, if it turns out to be the same, by all means yell and scream.

If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, feels like a duck and plays like a duck... then what do you have?
better question, why are you feeling ducks?
I think you should be asking... I don't know, either "Why are you playing a duck?" or "How do you play a duck?" as both are questions I feel need to be asked at this point.

Just because someone hasn't filed a copyright doesn't make it okay to blatantly capitalize off their success. Sorry, I'm still not buying it (literally or metaphorically), and the video makes a poor impression.

Copyright does not protect an idea. Read this link from U.S. Copyright office:

http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl108.html

However, you can copyright literary or artistic form. It appears that FortressCraft violates neither.
