are we really getting all so worked up over someones hair style? I mean for fuck sake, someones been banned over this bloody post! its a hair choice! some people like long hair, others don't. it's unfortunate for this kid since the school system is kinda being a tool on this one, but thats the facts of life kid, and when your get outta grade school or however the education system works, and you move onto high school where teachers, to a slim, almost unnoticeable degree, DO give you more freedom, you can grow your hair as long as cousin IT from the Adam's family. until then, Grin and bear it.

Well if its one kind of militarist private school, then they better put the lil bugger somewhere they wont mess up his mind with bullshit
Because they have military schools for kindergartners.... wait a minute...

But seriously what gave you the oh so bright idea that a four year old could even be sent to a military school?
Your lack of vocabulary is disturbing.
Militarism:" Glorification of the ideas of a professional military " i.e. drill, short hair and other conservative drek etc

Ok fine, though you said military school for a sec. Must have been a long day. But the fact that you didn't listen to the video still stands. It's not a private school. It's a public one. I don't know of any private schools that run a Pre-Kindergarten program.

Schools need to be reminded that children have lives outside of their education. Schools have no right to demand children do certain things to their bodies. If a child enjoys having long hair, he certainly does not have to go without that outwith school hours just to appease the school while he's there. After all, it's not like he can just stick it back on when he gets home.

I would love to see a school try to pull this shit on a Sikh kid.

What is this, the 60s?

This is why people don't like the south, people there seem to be stuck in a different era when boys with long hair are distracting, people with dark skin are inferior, and retards can govern and/or be sent to death row.

I was in Texas once and let me tell you there are some real freaks down there. If the weirdest thing in that school is a kid with long hair, they're probably doing allright. Then again the news report didn't mention the kid with the kkk hood because that isn't against regulations.

I thought the 60s was the hippy-era when everybody did have long hair, Gonzo? :p Beatles comes to mind.

Here's how I see it. The school asked the parents to cut the kids hair, because it didn't fit their standard and the parents refused. The school didn't have time for some 'moral' battle and kicked the kid out.

The parents are stupid. Why? Because they felt it was right to put their child's education at stake FOR HAIR. Because a hair cut would make their kid less individual? It's a 4 year old kid.

Now the school. The school isn't stupid, so much as they're bastards - as in, their priorities are whack. Seriously, the only person really hurt from this is the kid; is hair really more important than a kid's education? If you're entire argument is: the hair will distract him and impede on his education, then how do you justify kicking the kid out of school (because that kind of hurts education, too)? You can't, at least not in a way that makes you look like a hypocrite.

Solution: give the kid a haircut, because he's four and will get over it (and the parents need to get over it, too), and send him back to school. Who really loses is this situation? The kid's individuality? Because hair is like, the only thing that makes a person individual, amirite?

Also, in reference to some posts, schools are NOT trying to control the world by dumb dress codes. Repeat, they are not. :p

I don't see how long hair is part of the dress code seems a bit nonsensical to me. If there was actually a sensible reason for it to be against the dress code then fine. But to me it seems to boil down to "just cuz"

Hey people with long hair, can you give me a reason why you have long hair besides it's different then everyone else? And don't say I look better with it, because you would look better with normal hair.
I have long hair because I like it, simple as. Call me a lazy ****** all you want, it doesn't change the fact that it looks good, it feels good, it goes with all my clothes, and headbanging is AWESOME.

Wow, most of the guys I know would be in a lotta trouble if they were in American schools. xD Nowadays it's the girls here who have short hair and guys have long hair (and I mean long, like up the small of the back). Oh well, that just shows once again how "liberal" America is.

How 'bout because the girls like it? I'm loving my boyfriend's hair which is about the same length as in this...

I know that the chances of anybody reading this are remotely low because of all of the conversation going on here, but whatever.
Anyway, I do feel for this kid. I used to have quite long hair, and getting bothered about it was quite common for me. I never got bothered about it in school, though.
The kid did have options, though. He could have done what I did when I was trying to be formal and tie it into a ponytail, but I do think that he had the right to display his hair loud and proud. (Well, as loud as your hair can get).

My school was the same. When the teachers told us we needed a haircut, we got one. I remember we used to complain about it, but looking back I can see the point: we looked better for it. There's a nit-picky (yukyuk) argument about lice as well, I suppose.

An anecdote: a friend of mine who refused to get a haircut got expelled, and goddamn he loved his hair. Even so, he decided that his hair wasn't as important as his education and got a haircut. The school let him back in no-questions-asked. Matter solved.

But isn't it weird people are more up in arms about this kid's 'self-expression' and 'choice of hairdo' being threatened? Where are the people saying "that kid's education is being threatened" instead? Whack priorities, people.

i'm so glad i was just one year in a highschool int he us, i would go crazy with rules like that..and the school i wen't to was not even that strict, colored hair was allowed for example.

and yes, rules like that are opposed to freedom. freedom is not being able to be doing what you want, there are still rules. but freedom is to do what you want as long as you don't harm anyone or anything or intrude other peoples rights. rules just to make people obey is directly opposed to that kind of freedom, but unfortunately the essence of the u.s. nowadays.

to the czech school i was in for the most part, i could have spagethi string top, miniskirt, i could have even colored my hair green and cursed all day, nothing anybody could have done about it. and still the education ever here is way superior to the one you recieve beyond the pond.

Well for a start the principal's secretary needs fired for not being able to write a letter properly.

The kid's hair is totally fine. According to the picture that was shown it's like 2cm too long. Think it's a bit much to be getting your panties in a bunch over. When I was a school they only has rules about facial hair....no Del Piero sideburns or James Hetfield goatees etc.

Why must I only have two eyes, when one wants to look at his hair, and the other wants to stare at his abs? Seriously though, that is amazing hair.
