This sounds exactly like a cross between I, Robot and Blade Runner! Now they just need a black Harrison Ford or a white Will Smith to play the lead....

This going to be miserable -.-'

Can't Henry Hobson just make the title screen and John Scott 3 help with the technical side of the script. I just don't see why Alex Proyas can't direct as he's one of the best directors there currently is I mean he did I, Robot So why not Caves of Steel? I'm sure. As for screenplay, Steven Zaillian or hell even Jeff Vintar maybe :p

Maybe they could get Michael Bay to direct it? I hear he's good at making films with robots. It's not like he could get it any further from the book than I, Robot was.

Fun fact, the I Robot Film was adapted from an earlier failed movie called Hard Wired. The name was changed to I-Robot, with tangential links to the Asimov story thrown in in order to appeal to a bigger audience.
actuall wasnt it just a screenplay? not an actual movie?

anyway I robot wasnt bad..surprisingly good even
Yeah, it was a screenplay for a movie that wasn't greenlit by FOX, so they took the script and modified it to reference Asimov.

Its going to make big money but the fans will tears its guts out and ***** and moan.

Though one thing i never got (though I'll admit i faded ina nd out of the book) is why the robot is allowed to be a detective. But like i said, I faded in and out of the book and at this point I just simple could not care.
I intend to ***** and moan even if it's the single greatest cinematic work of our generation.

Also, the OP is a bit off. Robots aren't illegal on Earth, there's just a high amount of animosity towards them. Since the robot in question is virtually indistinguishable from a human, that isn't much of a problem.

... so depending how it looks, i may go see it. my big robot movie right now is Real Steel, because I liked the Episode of the Twilight Zone
While it's been awhile, if I recall correctly, the Earth detective is called in to help solve the murder because the Spacer's (the rich people who use robots) haven't had an unsolvable murder in a long time. The robot is made his partner so there is a Spacer involved in the investigation. The reason they use a robot and not a human is because the separation of the Spacers from the Earth have made them extremely vulnerable to communicable diseases.

and it's not an ambassador that is found dead, but a scientist. the title also refer to the fact that the cities and underground because humans all have a severe case of agoraphobia...

I love Asimov and I liked I, Robot the movie. That said, I have doubts about this. I, Robot is nothing close to the Asimov original, but it worked as an action movie nonetheless. The Caves of Steel won't. It's simply not suited for anything that isn't written form, it's too complex.

HOOOOOOLY SHIT, NO WAY. I WAS DREAMING ABOUT THIS A FEW DAYS AGO. And just finished listening to the audiobook for the tenth...billionth time--I CAN'T BELIEVE IT...

...HAS A CONNECTION WITH THE I, ROBOT MOVIE THAT TOTALLY SUCKED. Great. Just...great. One can hope. One can dream.

...buuut one can also doubt that this will be the perfect translation from book to video that fans of Asimov's works, such as my self, seriously desire. His books are an intelligent examination into sociology and the human condition. I'm going to be severely disappointed with the ridiculous action scenes and lack of insight into a scientifically fanciable future of human existence.

*EDIT!!! The movie I, Robot didn't suck. It was just so radically and completely not-connected with the book...weeeell, there was one or two scenes...or, wait, maybe I'm just imagining them. Anywho, it was an action movie--and I agree with the poster above me; Caves of Steel is too complex for an action movie. And I hate seeing the word "Fox" now-a-days in connection with things I love. It feels...weird.
