Of course, people like me watch the Daily Show or Colbert Report instead of other crappy news. BBC is good too.
That's not a badge of honor, you know. The BBC has at least
admitted its own bias and the
Daily Show and
Colbert Report are soap boxes for leftist politics. They're also quite lacking in integrity and whenever somebody calls them on it John Stewart gets angry and insists that his program is not real news.
I wouldn't say he gets angry, just flustered. I've never seen him flat-out pissed off at anyone (except CNBC and Jim Cramer).
The fact is that The Daily Show is not a news program. It serves as a good rundown of recent events, but it's highest calling is media critique. Sure, Jon cares about the issues and he wishes the rest of the media took more responsibility in their reporting on them, but his true source of humor is critical analysis of the news networks. It's the MST3K format applied to 24 hour news and abridged to half-an-hour (one hour counting the Colbert Report, which certainly counts.)
For the record, I watch the Daily Show and Colbert Report religiously, but I don't rely on them to inform my worldview. For that I read the Daily Beast's Cheat Sheet and sometimes watch Reuters headline videos.
