Journalism in general needs regulation to at least TRY to tell the truth.

We have like half a dozen major news stations, each of which owns several different smaller news stations. Just FYI. And regulation could easily lead to oppression.

You miss my point: HBO, CNN, Bravo at least attempt to tell the truth, or show boobies.

Regulation "could" lead to oppression, but does that stop you following the laws because they "could" lead to Martial Law?

Depends on the nature of the laws. It is generally unconstitutional to pass laws that could lead to oppression. That is the fundamental design of American goverment. Government granted monopolies are outlawed, freedom of speech is held as an absolute, and we are allowed to bear arms, (that is the real source of the 2nd amendment, FYI: fear of our own government.) We started out as a confederacy, explicitly BECAUSE we were afriad of being enslaved by our own government. Fear of a corrupt, oppressive establishment is part of what DEFINES our American philosophy. And while I wouldn't say America's design is the best in the world, while I would certainly admit their are many things Britain does much better than us, (the handling of vote ballots, for instance) our fear of government oppression, as well as many other aspects of our way of life, is not totally inferior to your own.

Moreover, taking into account the Principle of Mathematical Inevitability, over the course of the centuries, it is inevitable for the government to become corrupt. And if the government is all powerful, then the people are screwed.
