So the recession claims the highest profile victim to date, possibly.

With various European economies on the verge of collapse, this would be by far the biggest scalp, even if Greece does disappear and get bought out by the Germans (you all think I'm bluffing!) I feel that if FOX can't afford to pay the Simpsons cast so much, they should just pull the plug, because it was fun while it lasted and 22 seasons, plus a movie and a huge slice of merchandise cake for Rupert Murdoch's bloated media empire is far too much.

Not only do they have to pay the regular actors, but the writers, animators and guest stars. That probably gets expensive, even for a mega TV corporation.

Both parties are a little wrong. No one on Earth needs eight million dollars a year in order to live, though if anyone's seen the eighth season of Entourage, you'd know the cast is more than within their right to fight for what is theirs.

I hope it doesn't get cancelled. Like everyone else, I think it was better in the nineties, but it's still a good show! It's still way more worthy of being broadcast(ed?) than many, many others.

For starters it always shocks me to see such hatred for the new Simpsons stuff. Granted there was a real shakey patch but they've mostly gotten over it and the last few seasons have been great. Also the first two seasons weren't funny at all. Simpsons ranks right up there with Street Fighter (go look it up the series contrary to popular memory didn't start with Street Fighter 2) as things that should have been canceled long before they got to be awesome.

The bottom line here ultimately comes down to how much is Fox making off the Simpsons each year? I don't have access to the numbers but THAT'S what's important. The idea that the guy on top should get everything is exactly what's wrong with this country. Why should the talent on a show that literally changed the way Americans look at cartoons, went 23 seasons, one movie, easily dozens of video games, and merchandise sales be middle class like so many of you are suggesting? 8 million sounds like a lot but 8 million out of what? Charlie Sheen was making 2.5 million PER EPISODE at the end of Two and Half Men so it's not like them pulling a combined 8 million makes them hugely overpaid. I wanna know how much money is being made over all.

The Simpsons was an amazing show during the 90s and some of the greatest TV programming I've ever seen came from that time.

But at the turn of the century Simpsons began to become bland, and less funny. They began to divert from much of the original reasons why it was so great, and almost all of the characters now have experienced unexplainable personality changes. Now the show tries to keep afloat via guest cameos in every episode and trying way too hard to be culturally relevant about everything. (ironically trying to make itself family guy)

In short anyone talented on the team moved on to bigger and better things (Futurama) a while ago. And for the record I love the show and still watch reruns but I say just kill it before it can make more of an embarrassment of itself.

The voice actors should be wealthy enough by now that they can technically work for free for the rest of their lives and still get by fine. I don't get what they're whining about.

"23 seasons in, The Simpsons is as creatively vibrant as ever and beloved by millions around the world," Fox said in a statement yesterday.
So, if this was true, why is it so much worse than it used to be?

Seriously?
you know what's funny, that simpsons episode where they did rl fan stuff, and the guy said the show couldn't possibly be as good as it used to be, nothing could.

Jesus H. Christ. Quit your bitching and take the paycut. Give that pay to a middle class citizen and they can probably squeeze many years worth of healthy living out of that. FFS.
Umm socialist much? Don't be bitter because they earned that.

Well, they spoke into a microphone and made millions laugh. Take it for what its worth. Which is apparently millions.

I still enjoy the show, but if it ended there are enough reruns to enjoy it another 20 years. For many young adult's lives, the Simpsons has always been around. Might be odd having that gap during Sunday night. I'm sure Seth MacFarlane can add another profiled family comedy in there somewhere! :)
Brilliant comment there bub...not. The guy was voicing their opinion and they are entitled to have one. Just because you don't agree with it does not give you the right to call them names. As far as I am concerned let the show be canceled, I haven't watched it in years.

Eh, no, I'm joining the Royal Marines at some point. Sorry for the mix up. I'm not out of the woods yet, or technically even in them...
Hey, that's a commendable goal and I wish you the best!

Anyway, on topic, I never was a big Simpsons fan and only saw a little bit of it, and I don't really care either way they go. I only ever really liked the Fox animated programming when I was younger, but these days I can't watch it with any interest.

I suspect Simpsons has run its course finally. It will be sad to see it leave, but all good things must come to an end or just stagnate for eternity. Funny since House MD is done after this year and it was pretty bad last couple of seasons. What is Fox going to replace their biggest hitters with next?
Maybe theyre hoping this Terra Nova thing will be their next big thing and start a second Jurassic Park-esque craze
that would be interesting, but I don't think Terra Nova is good enough to carry the network alone as some of the visuals need work. Not to mention that only really fills the empty drama slot that House will leave behind. They'll need something else to fill Simpsons void. It's a shame they canceled Futurama way back when because that could probably work. :D lol
And its too bad that comedy Centra picked up futurama. though Im sure Fox could figh tthem in a money war for it.

...

Using simpsons money of course.

I say put them out of their misery. The Simpsons been on TV for far too long, its just getting to the point where the episodes are no longer funny, but rather dull and sad to watch.
