I think it's about time The Simpsons went quietly into the night, that said why have they stuck with FOX? Surely they can go to other networks?

Why does FOX think it's in a good position to bully its shows? I mean, they don't have a great record of producing big hits (House, Glee and American Idol). Check out the number of sitcoms and reality shows which have only had one series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_programs_broadcast_by_Fox .

Also, how has Seth McFarlane got 3 shows?? Why would you have American Idol AND the X factor? Hell's kitchen AND Kitchen nightmares? - these are the same shows!! And don't get me started on FOX news! gah! *wanders off ranting to himself*

Pretty much what Bahumat42 said, but his list of people that need to be paid could be expanded on quite a bit, like sound fx and music scoring to begin with, nevermind the huge administrative complex behind the show.

Also, asking for a cut of the profits is the greedy move as that'll probably come out to more than the voice actors' current pay per episode (which is more than I'll make in ten years Per Episode) . The voice actors are just another part of the production process, the burger flippers or cashiers of other industries. They're replacable in all honesty, and there's no reason they deserve a cut of the profits to the detriment of the (guessing) hundreds or thousands of people who have hands on the show and the future prospects of the company that puts the show on air nevermind the real creators of The Simpsons.

This just in, Fox is Fox!!
I get that the Simpsons episodes aren't making as much money as the merchandise and I think the cast is seriously over-payed, but given that the Simpsons are pretty much the only reason Fox is still around, I think the cast deserves just a few percentages of the massive merchandising profits. Also, I just want Fox to suffer for what they've done over the years, especially to Firefly.

'The program on Fox that bills itself as "The Simpsons" bears only the faintest resemblance to our favorite television show of all time. Today it is a hollow shell, over animated, under thought out, and thoroughly mediocre. The sooner it ends the better off we'll all be.'

-The Dead Homer Society Manifesto

I have been waiting for this for 13 years. I really hope that the exceptionally talented voice cast receives some sort of adequate severance compensation. Considering how it's Fox, I doubt it.

I can't see this actually happening. Fox makes too much money off it to let the Simpsons die. I bet you anything they're calling the cast's bluff and holding out. Give it a month tops, and we'll hear about how the cast and producers came to an agreement that doesn't involve sharing profits. One month, peeps.

Here's the flip side of the coin;

How much did Harry suggest the actors get from the profits? Maybe Fox was.. I don't want to say "right" because it could set a dangerous precedent.

Wasn't the whole writers strike because writers weren't getting residuals from repeats of shows they helped make? I don't know actually, didn't pay that much attention to the strike, reality TV crippled my interest in television.

This is the same sounding kind of thing to me.

And yet, I have the odd, sickening feeling that Fox will simply cancel The Simpsons and go about their life buisness as usual. I mean, did they ever answer for canceling Firefly? Lord knows they don't seem to care that no one likes their news and knows it's full of lies and idiocies. It seems to be a horrible truth that Fox can be... well, Fox, and still be profitable.

It's my sincere hope that asking the cast to take pay cuts is an indication that they're not doing well, because Fox and it's news deserves it.

Apparently Fox is in the process of finishing its transformation into a completely heartless group of evil bastards by removing the last ounce of humanity, hope, and likeability left... and Lord knows they've been slowly trying to kill it and taint it over the years.

So, who's looking forward to even MORE Seth McFarlane cartoons?

OMG, you mean a company won't share it's profits with someone whom it has no obligation to share them with? How is that even possible. Seriously guys calm the F down. Fox has no obligation to share it's profits on anything with anyone, and it has no obligation to pay the Simpsons cast a certain amount either.

And the Simpsons cast would still make many times more money than most of us even with the 45% pay cut.

This isn't the little guy vs the devil here, it's the greedy rich fucks vs the other greedy rich fucks.

Ok... As much as I want to just see the simpsons end...

well, I just can't justify this. This is just Fox playing dirty and by saying "well we want to cut employees salaries to produce the show, but we aren't willing to give up any profits" they are really saying "We just figured we could make more money."

Either way, seems Simpsons will be canceled. Good. But sucks for the actors...

I dont mind the new episodes coming out, I would understand if they stopped producing new episodes. However, not for this reason. That is beyond ridiculous. Granted, they still make plenty of money, but cutting half your pay for little reason beyond "we aren't making as much money so we are taking it from you." Fox, I give up on you. This doesn't have to do with the Simpsons so much as just saying "I've had enough of your B.S."

I would dare to venture a guess and say that Fox tries to avoid having to admit that The Simpsons have moved solidly from "cash cow" to "poor dog" territory over these last few years, afraid that such an announcement might hurt News Corp. stocks. If they can cancel the show quietly because "the actors got greedy", at least they have some albeit flimsy excuse to do so, and it might sound better than "the show did no longer produce decent ratings".

Please let this degenerate until they have no choice but to end the show. There would be literally no downside.
Hate to break it to ya buddy, but they signed the contract. They took the pay cut, and are still returning for another season.

Know their logic? After 23 years of making fuckloads of money, they decided instead of letting pride get in their way and being greedy, thay they'd continue to make a fuckload of money - just less of a fuckload. Under normal circumstances, I would say Fox would probably get sued for violating its contract. However, the cast of that show has made their money, and are just in the business for the fun of it.

They took a 30% pay cut, as apposed to the proposed 45%. What the Escapists sensationalist reporting "FORGOT" to mention to you was that the 45% was the absolutely bottom of the barrel, "we aren't even serious" kinda offer that was made just so the two parties could negotioate into the 20-30% range. Thats how business is done. When its all said and done, Fox also pays its employees that its contracted to...

Anyways, to you and everyone that has been trashtalking The Simpsons, have you been watching the new episodes? And I mean seriously, not in the context of the internet where you have to show how Alpha Male you are? Yeah, the 90's version was amazing - but it was different back then. Different team, different script writers (<3 Conan), etc. The recent two seasons have been pretty decent. Furthermore, a vast majority of people who rag on the Simpsons and say the new seasons suck, don't actually watch it. And to them I say fuck off - who are they to be loud and obnoxious over something other people like just because "Its been on for 23 years, it can't be funny". Yeah, I realize the show had a dark period. And if you abandoned it, then fine. But don't give your opinion on the matter unless your current and have seen a good chunk of the episodes - and not just the old ones. Otherwise, I'm chalking this one up to nestalgia.

End of Rant.

Aww, a Simpsons fanboy, how cute. I didn't think you guys were still around. Still, don't let your pet show being an irredeemable piece of shit stop you from taking every attack on it as a personal offence, more power to you.

The fact that you have a bunch of prepackaged strawman arguments and ad-hominems for anybody who dislikes it shows you give so much more of a shit than anybody insulting the Simpsons. It didn't even occur to me that pointing out that the Simpsons is crap was even a big enough deal to be considered "acting alpha male" any more.

I don't care about them canceling Simpsons, I stopped watching it some time ago and it stopped being that funny long before that.

But I still think they're treating these guys extremely poorly. If they feel the show will make enough money in DVD sales that they don't want to share profits - then give these actors a fair salary. I realize the actors are well-paid, but given how much money the show makes they deserve to be well paid.

Eh, hopefully they go on to do fun projects.

If you didn't think it was alpha male to bash Simpsons then why are you responding to this post in such a manner? It can only be because you're using it as an ego trip, therefore doing exactly what he predicted someone would do.
So by responding to tell him he has a strawman argument, you've proved he doesn't have a strawman argument by showing everyone he's right. I find that amusing
