"The increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of [sexual] scenes in video games,"

No it can't. Whilst I don't know about America, in the UK I'm pretty sure rape cases are going down year-on-year, whilst there's been a dramatic rise in gaming. Does not compute.

I think Fox could have just cut the shit and realised that any parent stupid enough to buy a 9 year old kid a game called Bulletstorm isn't the sharpest tool in the shed anyway and possibly can't read this as it is.

Im not suprised. I mean its fox news were talking about.
And also, I learn so much worse stuff in school. Im in 10th grade and heres some things I learned in school that are much worse

1. I was saying fuck in 3rd grade
2. Kids around me were doing drugs in 5th grade(it was mostly weed until 8th).
3.I learned my drinking limit in 7th(That was a bad mistake. yeah im done drinking till im 21. so atleast if I get wasted,I wont get in trouble for it).
4. My first fight was in school when I was only 7.
5. In 8th I learned ciggaretes taste probably like godzillas Shit.

Yeah So what im saying is they should be focusing on why school is so fucked now.

Oh yeah I almost forgot
6. I found out one of my friends in 7th grade was a crackhead like 6 months after he moved to New york.

Yeah, I remember when I ran around and raped everyone after finishing the romance subplot in Mass Effect...

Yes, because if a 9 year old child watches porn, smokes/drinks, watches horror movies that can traumatize him/her it is EVERYONE'S fault except the parents. Wait a go organizations who don't know what it means to be a parent.

Fox News, proving that it is physically possible for the media to get worse then the Daily Mail and the Daily Star combined.

I'm not even sure how they manage to pull it off, but low and behold here we are. The slightly depressing part is how many Americans take it seriously..

Hey! It's Fox News blabbing about "controversy" with no facts to back up any statements they make!
That is exactly what I thought.

Sexual references in games increase rape? Where is your source?

I dont think that Fox News can be called a news channel, when they are going crazy about 'evil' games.
I think that they usually manipulate the interwievs, so that people will think what Fox News want them to think, not offering an opportunity for an individual choice.

Lol, they made it sound like shooting a dude in half werent wrong, but calling it topless was
I have been playing Unreal Tournament since I was 10 and I turned out fine. It seems like video games are the new universal scapegoat. It wouldnt surprise me if Bin Laden would pop up any second now and blame the video games for his acts

Yep - my social eduction (British term for "killing time period") teacher used to teach us about;

- How to distil our own alcohol
- How to inject alcohol into fruit and vegetables to make them alcoholic
- How he used to get involved in sectarian violence (he went to a Catholic school in Livingstone) and the details of what he and others did
- How to mix such potent drinks you will pass out and wake up in hospital with you stomach pumped

All of this was with the "I did it, but you shouldn't" label, even though he obvious had no regrets about any of it.
DUDE.......YOUR TEACHER IS AWESOME
OT: What have I brought away from this article?

Seriously. There's not much else I can say.

with this, i would simply point out japan. look at rape statistics there and compare it to what she just said.

OT: parents, you need to step it up, buying/letting them play those games is your fault, not anyone elses, so stop trying to blame game creators/publishers, the esrb rating is there for a reason.

Now, according to wikipedia, rape in the US has DROPPED 60% since 1993. So can we pin that on Tetris? the calming influence of arranging blocks lowered the rape urges in psychotic men?

Now if I was a tabloid journalist, I'd bring up the meteoric rise of video games and in particular the rise of more vibrant realistic violence and sexual content in video games since 1993 and ask how the expert explains the 60% drop. Then I'd realise I was a tabloid journo and kill myself for having wasted my life.
...
Anyone think her books on Amazon are going to suddenly start getting 1 star reviews along the lines of 'I've never read any of her books, but I'm entirely of the BELIEF that they've led to an increase in rapes' ?

Such idiocy being given airtime deserves to be slapped down as hard as that woman who decided Mass Effect was a hardcore porn simulator, if not harder, for bring such a serious and life destroying thing as rape into what is, in effect, a 21st century carnival target range.

Oh hang on tho, we're using virtual guns, not real ones, therefore society's downfall is imminent.

They said it themselves. An "M" Rating. THAT MEANS FOR ADULTS FUCKNUTS.

That aside, I actually love Fox News. They've secured one of my new favourite studios a good start to a long-running legacy.

Rockstar only got properly popular after the "hot coffee" fiasco, afterall...

Parent doesn't want their 9 year old to play it, parent shouldn't buy it or allow it in the house

I wonder why it's a bad thing for children to know about sex and gore, but not an adult? Oh right, it isn't

That is all.

Games don't make people violent, if anything, they give them a place to vent anger, make them less likely to hurt others.
