I stopped reading there.
Same.
People like this need to be taken away from anywhere that they may publicly voice opinions. They seriously shouldn't be allowed to.
Same here. Also the way they went from 9 year old's playing violent video games to real life rapes is just laughable. I seriously wonder how that psychologist got her degree (no offense to any psychology student on the Escapist, I'm pretty sure you guys agree that voicing opinions as facts is not professional)
That's what 99.999'% of psychology is.
And I do mean that to sound offensive to any Psychology student.
From reading psychological texts and making the mistake of taking it for an A level. I can whole heartedly say it's complete Bull!
They make rash leaps of logic, they think conclusive means 'more than 10%' and they push their own hang ups and inner workings onto the rest of humanity as validation or explanation.
You only have to read the first few pages of Freud's 'Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality' to figure out that he is just using his own experiences and feelings on the subject matter as baseline for his research. He even later discounted most of what his subjects told to him because it conflicted with his own theories.
I'm not saying that all psychology is bad or fake. But the majority of it is. It's working under the assumption that we're all cardboard cut-outs and that we should all function one particular way. So any deviation from that base model is evidently defective and must have something wrong with it.
We're to complex to slap so many labels on everything, in a bid to explain how and why we work. There is no definitive norm and anyone who argues otherwise should be shot from a cannon into orbit. Whilst wearing an embarrassing swimming costume.
Now suggestion and misdirection. That's interesting. That works on the basic physiological functions to effect the subconscious and the conscious. That's about as much physchobabble as I swallow.
