Hello fellow escapists, Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all of you..
Anyways, back to the topic at hand... I recently found a freeware game called Dyson
(dyson-game.com). It's quite fun and completely free. I was wondering if any of you guys have found any cool little freeware games or sandboxes that you really liked.

The Vacuum [http://www.seriousbusiness.co.cc/index.php?f=special&i=12] is a freeware adventure game that I made over the summer, so everybody should definitely play it.

http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/ Dwarf Fortress is great, but you'll need to use the Dwarf Fortress wiki to start out. And remember, losing is fun.

http://crawl-ref.sourceforge.net/ Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is really fun, and it'll also kick your ass. Prepare for a large graveyard of perma-dead characters, and a lot of them at really low levels.

Savage 2 just became freeware. Makes me pretty happy and sad at the same time. I want to play, but have finals at college so I must postpone my fun.

Apparently "The Suffering" is freeware now...if your a survival horror fan

I played "Knytt Stories" a while back...twas quite fun for what it was...see if you can spot the hidden environmental message :p

"Soldat" gave me some lols way back when. Think worms meets CS.

"I wanna be the guy" is cool if you have zen like patience.

....also...get "N"....and "Linerider"....

Holy crap yes. I was still playing Savage 1. Man this makes my day.

EDIT: Wait. Crap. That means the game flopped. Dang it, I like S2. Grrr and yay at the same time. Perhaps I shall invest in whatever account-thing they are selling.

Anyone who can stand a 2D platformer should play iji: probably the game i enjoyed more than any other this year. Nice atmosphere, fun puzzles, great music, engaging story. The graphics are 'inspired' by another world (only less pretty) and that turns some people off, but the whole thing is a smooth experience. Amazingly the whole thing was played on the game maker engine. http://www.remar.se/daniel/iji.php for free download.

They still have a Premium Member type deal set up where you get extra stuff, meh.
It's not extra stuff, it's just more access to what's there. But yeah, it's pretty much taken on that aspect of eastern MMOs. Doesn't mean it's not fun though.

Good picks here - I actually played at least half of them.

Lets see...

Data Realm's Cortex Command [http://www.datarealms.com/] is an awesome side perspective combat game.
SpiderWeb Software [http://www.spidweb.com/]'s Old School RPGs hold up surprisingly well.
Moonpod Games [http://www.taleworlds.com/] - they yet to make a poor one.
Mount and Blade [http://www.taleworlds.com/] makes Oblivion practically unambitious.

I think if you are capable of getting past the first few screens in "I want to be the guy" then you deserve a medal. Great game though.

Remember that Abandonware is free to download, so I'll just find a download of Dungeon Keeper 2 in a few. Here it is, my friends. [http://digiex.net/games-downloads/159-dungeon-keeper-2-full-version-1-7-a.html]
