Actually, I kind of thought that maybe her son is hitting the reefer? Or maybe some other drug? Since becoming sickly and pale is a physical reaction and all. Or maybe the other kids pick on him so much he gets stressed and that causes the sickly pallor, but he endures it because it is still better than being home...
