So I have jury duty this morning. I have to be at the court house in roughly 2 hours. I am extremely nervous. I don't have any reason to be nervous but, I am. My friend told me I should be excited about it but I'm not. It sucks. This sucks. So, have you ever done jury duty or your friends, family members? My one friends dad was called but he couldn't do it since he use to work with the guy. No one else I know has done it.

edit:

Back from jury duty. It took less then two hours. It was actually kinda cool. A waste of time but actually kind of cool. I didn't get selected for the first one, 2 people pleaded guilty and 4 people didn't show up. So it flew by quickly.

A few of my friends and colleagues have been called. Most of them were dismissed day 1, nothing bad just deemed unsuitable for the case in question. One friend did end up part of the trial, it did drag on for weeks but the pay for jury duty was better than her job. :p

if you don't want to do it just say you hate black people or something like that, they'll exclude you. or say you went to school with the guy...

I've studied Law for VCE and have done a BusLaw unit at Uni this semester. I want to sit on a jury for a case as I think it would be interesting (if it is a murder case).

I've thought about doing that but it seems a bit unethical...

Once you get there, it won't seem so bad. Just try your best. *Smiles!*

OT: I think my Dad was called for it once, but I can't quite remember whether it as Jury Duty or something else they wanted from him. He has been asked to testify against some people who have been trying to steal money from his Business, though...

Because jury duty, bringing a random bunch of completely unrelated and uneducated (usually, in the ways of the law) to decide whether someone's innocent or not is ethical?

Yeah, I'd know what I'd be doing if we'd have a civilian jury in this country. I'm glad we don't. It's the breeding ground of the seedy lawyer, the musical Chicago is such a nice parody of the whole jury spiel.

unethical is being forced to miss work and not get paid for an indefinite amount of time

I know. I'll be happy when it's over or they exclude me. Then I'll smile; until then nervous.

Yeah. The letter pretty much says they don't care what you miss at work it doesn't excuse you from jury duty. I laughed at that.

Jury duty is boring. I've been called several times but only served once. It was a civil case over an engine for a classic car. Took two days to get it all sorta out. The whole thing was stupid but luckily my job pays in full for jury duty days. Plus you get to keep the money from serving. All in all, I just assume not do it again.

I've been called for jury duty about 3 times and each time I didn't have to go, it's like they don't like me there.

I've done jury duty, it was very boring, and the case was so weak and pointless I'm surprised the DA let it go to court at all.

The only good thing about it was I got out of school, as a senior in HS, to go serve. I haven't been called since.

Can't stress again how boring it was, even the judge looked "deep in thought".

Never have, but I kind of want to, if only to do it once.

But then again, law is of interest to me

EDIT: I do suffer from ADD, but I doubt that counts.

Never been called up myself but both my father and brother have been.My father had to serve and hated every minute of it(it was a traveller up on "assault with a weapon" charges so my father had to sit in a courtroom full of travellers giving him evil looks for 2 days). My brother got let off though as he was abroad at the time

@ThongBonerstorm you implying something with that first statement you posted.
@Sherperd's Shadow there are plenty of ways to get out of jury duty. If you are in school, take care of a handicapped or elderly person, have an indictment of your own, can't read, write, or speak English (irrelevant cause you are on here), have a felony, or already in another jury case. There are plenty more just look up your state's jury laws.

I had to go to courst once to testify as a witness... I hated it, and to this day will never ever come forth as a witness again no matter what I see! unless its something that goes against my moral and ethical code... Damnit! why did I have to be born lawful good?
