Missed my Bus, (First time taking it in morning due to having no other alternative mode of transportation to school) I had no clue where the bus stop was so I took a shot in the dark and I missed. Now I get sick now and then sometimes a stomach problem (the shits or throwing up) and I stay home, but the rule here is you can only miss 13 days in a full year class and 6 in a half year class. And if you want to stay home past that you need doctors notes. I'm not rich and I can't go to the doctors every time I feel down. Sometimes my problem is I just don't have the energy or just have an off day. The doctor would not be able to do anything so why should i waste my money bothering with mundane shit. (I know insurance but I don't have it) Why would a school enact such a stupid rule. It just hurts people, if kids want to skip they are sure as fuck going to skip. I know many of my friends from around the country can miss school almost as much as they want (they must make it all up) but they still can miss it. Why the hell would a school think this is a good idea?
If I miss the days I fail the class for the year.

You fail the class with almost no hope of making it up (Unless you were actually skipping then you can get a contract but they would not do that for an enemy of the education system.. also white is the minority at my school and I happen to be white xD) Honestly I always get screwed at my school, i failed a language class so what do they do. GIVE ME ANOTHER ONE, I need extra credits to keep passing and graduate on time, THEY GIVE ME STUDY HALLS even though I don't want them.

You're in high school I'm guessing? Most colleges and universities I've heard of don't have this. It's an attendance policy to more than likely threaten kids with poor grades if they don't do what they're told like in this case staying in school.

It is possible if you live in a large city area the school is doing this to have less kids on the street during the morning/afternoon as alot of kids fake sick to get out of school or just don't show up. (Usually afterwards getting into trouble, not saying you're that way though.)

Yeah, lol the bus part gave it away. I could see if it was a college, that is much more important due to you're an adult at that time and are considered to handle your problems. The fact is I'm in high school and I never skipped due to enjoyment reasons. The thing is I never have done anything wrong in my entire school history, I think they should cut me some slack but no that would be unfair. I hate fucking equality I have done nothing wrong so I needed to be treated as a criminal?

So wait, is this class-based qualifications rather than Exam/Coursework based?

I'm English, not familiar with the American system...
Double post, sorry.

This is fucking high school bro xD and Connecticut has one of the highest qualifications for passing and yet it seems like anyone can except me. (I teach myself and learn from my own books during class, fuck a traditional bullshit education)

Yeah it's a stupid policy.

At my school its ten days until you start getting detentions and stuff. However the kids that miss like 3 days a week every week don't get punished for it, only the "good" kids.

IMO you shouldn't even have to attend public school classes as long as you can maintain a B or higher in all your classes. If I am learning at an above average rate, why should I have to waste my time at school? Their goal should be to educate me, not imprison me.

Yes, that is actually very right, but my school teaches me nothing. As I have said before I learn all that I do all on my own, I hate what they try to pound into my head making me like everyone else. I have to take the same fucking classes when my future has nothing to do with them at all. I can't ever take any of the classes I want because they are full... It's bullshit and even when there are classes available that i like when i take them it's just full of the same robotized teaching that does not allow any individuality.

I went to Danbury High School. The rule was you couldn't wear something on your head indoors (including a hoodie) because it might mean you were in a gang or some bullshit. I tried taking a nap during lunch hour once with my hoodie on and a security guy woke me up to tell me I was breaking the rules.

But then there was the time they said you couldn't wear pajama pants to school. No one followed that rule and no one enforced it either. They just didn't want goddamn hats.

Safest way to deal with a large group of people is to assume they'll act like criminals. I've always said school was more of an institution than people would like to admit. Then again I did call my Principal a warden once and he laughed and said back in your cell.

If they ask why you weren't able to get to class tell them you weren't feeling well and therefore couldn't drive to the doctor because you didn't trust your driving skills while sick. (IE throwing up, etc.) Parents are at work so they can't take you.

I had to get a doctor's note for work once, went in the waiting room to see a doctor and apparently they had people there that had been waiting since 9am that morning. (It was 11 at night at the time.) So I just told work the hospital was too full. I'm guessing you don't have any friends you could get a lift with?

Tried but no one was home, sucks for me and also I don't have many friends. Reason being all my friends are either to pussy to stand out for me or when I stand out for them they just stab me in the back.

In this case, the school is trying to cut down on the incidence of skipping by using removal from the class as a deterrent. In practice, it's not the best practice, but many schools don't know what else to do.

Personally, as long as a student is keeping on top of the workload, I don't see the issue with taking a day off once in a while. However, there is also the fact that the school is responsible for the students after there parents have sent them off, so the school could get in trouble if something happened.

No offense but that there is a dead give away that you're in high school. Things get better once you're out. Not in your first year of college/university but the one after that.

Yeah I know, I'm just going to have a hell of a time getting there. If I see an actual need to do my work I will do it, but until then I'm in high school and I never do homework and all I do in class is read (mostly non-fiction). I pass my tests and that's the only way I stay passing but hey, I know what I'm doing is irresponsible but then again I'm learning more then the other robots! SOON I WILL REPROGRAM INTO DEATH MODE AND KILL ALL THE OTHER ROBOTS AND UPGRADE MY BODY WITH THEIR PARTS TO BECOME THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE.

I don't know, man. A Fucking School sounds pretty good.

But yeah, it's a strange rule. I guess truancy leads to social problems, and they're trying their best to combat that.

You know how people say "If I knew what I knew then, etc. etc...?"
I hate to say it because it makes me sound old but if I knew what I knew now about college and university and such I would have paid about 300% more attention and tried harder in high school than I did when I was in high school.

I know its a pain (was a popular target for bullying by both students and teachers) but holy crap is good grades important.

Sorry if this turns out to be a double-post, forum made it look like it ate what I wrote.

It's ok, and trust me I'm aware of all of this, but I can't get it through my subconscious. I try to do homework but halfway through it I literally want to jump out a window. I have no idea why it's just how my brain is wired.
