It's a long one.Put in spoilers for the one's who don't want to read it.
That isn't totally true.These are not 'the facts',but are rather things said in other versions of the bible,which are largely not considered to be...well,canon,by the vast majority of believers.
The four main gospels-Matthew,Mark,Luke and John-are where we get the majority of our information about the teachings of Jesus.However,there are a great number more,something up to I think one hundred and twelve.
These gospels range from slight variations of the four main gospels,to accounts of Jesus striking a child blind for bumping into him,and taking snakes home because he thought it was cool.This is also where we get the Gospel of Judas,which gives a radically different account of the events surrounding Jesus' trial and execution.We even have accounts of Jesus travelling to the east,to India and China,and taking teachings from Buddhism and Hinduism,which he then adapted for Christianity.
Keep in mind though,many of these gospels were written long after Jesus had died,and a lot of them exist in only partial form,with some only being a page or two long.Compare this to one of the cannoical gospels,Mark,which if I remember correctly,is believed to have been written about thirty to forty years after the Crucifiction,and is widely held to have been written by Mark the Evangelist,who was the scribe to Saint Peter.The same Peter who used to travel around with Jesus,back in the day.
Accounts of what happened are so varied because,until Mark,no one had attempted to write down what had happened,and people relied on the oral tradition.If you've ever played a game of Chinese Whispers,you'll know how well this would have went.And that's why Mark is the closest we have to a play by play of what really happened.It helps that Peter would have told Mark,'Look,don't play down the fact that I denied Jesus.I did it,and people need to know.'That,and the fact that if you look at the gospels which come after Mark,they all seem to take bits and pieces from him,while adding their own influence,and stories.

On May 28, he was transferred to Auschwitz as prisoner #16670.At the end of July,three prisioners had escaped the deathcamp,and prisioners were being randomly selected for punishment,to discourage others.They were to be sent underground,to starve.When one man,Franciszek Gajowniczek,was selected,he cried out 'My wife!My children!'.Kolbe volunteered to take his place.
In the cell,he led the prisioners in song and prayer,and held mass every day.Sympathetic guards gave the prisioners materials,including wine which could be used.Using the unleavened bread supplied to them,he was even able to give Holy Communion to the prisioners.This lasted for two weeks.Finally,only Kolbe was left alive.Since their imprisionment in the bunker,every time he was checked upon,he was seen to be standing,or kneeling in the middle of the room,and would react calmly to those who entered the cell.The commander of the camp wanted the bunker cleared,and Kolbe was sentanced to be killed by lethal injection.Kolbe again reacted calmly,and accepted his fate.According to some present,he lifted his left arm,and waited for the injection.
Because of Kolbe,Franciszek Gajowniczek,the man who he had swapped places with,lived throughout his internment,before finally dying in 1993.Just a little more than fifty three years after Kolbe had sacraficed his life for another.
