Fun hard: DMC[footnote]note: DMC4 is not a DMC game in my mind[/footnote], any game on any difficulty(except maybe DMC2. That game lost a lot of fluidity in battle from DMC1).

Stupid Hard: DMC2 level 16 boss on Dante Must Die mode. Just fuck you.

lol

I love that game. I have the special edition and everything. Thats fun hard for me.
That is because you have the special edition. The Special edition put the difficulty curve back to a sane level. The English normal mode was equivalent to the Japanese Hard more. DMC3 gave me nightmares.

Fun hard: Playing an aggressive Vanguard (ME2) on insanity. All the battles are extremely short, either with enemies dropping left and right with their faces missing as you leap across the battlefield shotgun first, or with you faceplanting if you misplace a Charge!

Stupid hard: The Hammerhead in ME2. Each Colossus takes about 50 missiles to kill, and can kill you in around 3 seconds with their tracking machine gun. The only way to defeat them is to hide behind a wall and fire around it. And being unable to save between fights is the devil's work. Not fun!

Fun Hard: Any NCAA football game on heisman, because the computers are actually competent enough to stop on pretty much any deep routes made by your wide receivers unlike the other difficulties where I can just toss the ball up into the air and score a touchdown every time.

Stupid Hard: Alpha Protocol, specifically the Brayko boss fight. The reason I say this is because Brayko does some cocaine or some kind of drug you sniff and becomes almost invincible, while coming at you with a knife. The problem is that guns have no effect on people at close range, and trying to fight hand to hand is impossible because in Alpha Protocol the computers know how to block melee attacks, but you, the player, cannot block attacks. It was probably one of the most frustrating boss fights I have played, I ended up running around until Brayko's drug induced rage went away and he pulled his guns back out, just so that I could damage him without dying.
while i dont necessarily think its stupid hard, th brayko fight def. took me a few times to figure out wtf was goin on, once i realized that and which perks to use when, he went from being "stupid hard" to "very very fun hard"

he is probaly one of my favorite boss battles to do, thanks to the music and just brayko in general

Fun hard: archdemon on dragon age. hard as hell but beating it i really feel accomplished

Stupid hard: either halo on legendary (any of em really) or jedi academy on god mode..

halo- i peak my head around the corner in a new area and immediately get head shotted, wtf am i supposed to do?!?

jedi academy- i dont know if its just me but is there any logical way to go into lightsaber duals besides spamming the shit out of attack and left right and backward keys? or is there an actual strategy to use?

Fun hard Ravenholm in Half-Life 2. If you thought it was easy, than try doing it with only your Gravity Gun.

Stupid Hard Phase Ticks in Singularity. THEY. JUST. WONT. STOP. COMING.

That, and when about 3 special infected come out at you on NORMAL difficulty in Left 4 Dead 2. I mean, one time, me and mine ran into a spitter, a tank, and a hunter all at once! And of COURSE it was just outside the safe room.

Fun Hard - Super Mario, except Super Mario Sunshine and SMB Lost Levels. RE4's Professional mode, Contra 3 or Dead Space's Impossible (which doesn't really reflect its name).

Stupid Hard - Any of the uber-hard game modes like GeoW's Insane, RE5's Professional, Doom's Nightmare. Unforgiving error space and/or trial and error like R-Type, Contra: Hard Corps or Zelda 2, or continue-grinding wall-bashing games like Contra Rebirth's Nightmare mode, or the aformentioned RE5.
What really killed RE5 on Professional for me was your partner. I never thought Resi 5's AI was that bad. Sure, it was never great, but on lower difficulties it was adequate to the task. It was only on Professional that the significance of its flaws became truly apparent. It just wasn't smart enough. Worst of all, its reaction times are too slow to help you if you get in trouble, which means that getting hit tends to be certain death. I didn't want to pay to play online and none of my friends were willing to go through it with me, so the AI basically killed it for me.
I did eventually beat it, but I felt proud and stupid at the same time. People shouldn't play these modes, they need to end this kind of thing. I don't mind them if nothing good is unlocked from them, otherwise it's depriving civilized people of goodies.

Yes, Sheva is good but on Professional it's just not worth it. She's actually quicker to use an injection than to use a spray so it's wise to keep the health items to yourself most of the time.

Fun Hard: Megaman 10. Even on Hard mode there's method to the madness, no cheap spike pits that you couldn't see coming and the like. Most of its predecessors are like this too.

Stupid Hard: Onimusha's Oni Mansion. The camera was not made for tiny little rooms arranged in a maze, most of the demons have long periods of invincibility where you must stay out of their reach, making it feel more like an obstacle course where you must avoid every obstacle ten times, and at the end you find that Gogandantess has dropped the witty banter (or any dialogue at all) and become an extremely cheap bastard. This is halfway through the game and there are many other challenges even nastier- most of the triumvirate for instance, particularly Claudius.

'Fun hard' for me is anything that's fair with fun gameplay. Or they can be a little unfair if the re-spawn time is super quick :p

'Stupid hard' is unfair and unfun and is stupidly common.

I find games where the devs have been lazy on the difficulties tend to be 'Stupid hard'. Where instead of actually changing the levels and enemies to be more difficult they just give you low health and give your enemies tons of health. No part of hitting one enemy for 10 hours only to be killed in one hit when you make a mistake is fun.

May I ask why you think that?

I've played all of them so far, and while DMC4 is not as good as DMC3, it is still an incrediblely fun and enjoyable experience and DMC game. The only bad thing I hear about it is about the backtracking..which makes no sense, since all the games have that especially DMC3, with the Tower of Backtrac...I mean, Temin-ne-gru

[sub][sub]I just want to know your reasoning behind it.. =o[/sub][/sub]

Fun Hard: Super Mario Galaxy 2. It's all about timing the further you get in.

Stupid Hard: DMC3, period. Even on Normal, it's a *****. Still gonna pick up DMC4 again.

I sympathize with you on the Phase Tick problem. I had to replay that first encounter like six times before I got through. Fortunately, the infinite ammo they give for the TMD near the end makes the last Phase Tick explosion child's play and quite satisfying.

Fun Hard: Demons Souls (even though I havn't beaten it yet).

Super Mario, because its super mario.

Stupid Hard: Demons Souls, more specifically would be the way to get to flamelurker. I have had more trouble getting there than any other place.

Icewind Dale (more hard for the fact that if you don't get the right combination of party members than your pretty screwed, party includes: 1 Archer and 1 Tank. Thats it.)

did you try going down the mine shaft to get to the flamelurker? that's the easiest way to get to him because you can bypass all the bearbugs and such.

back on topic

fun hard: COD games on hardened difficulty, hardened is missing all the bullshit of the vet difficulty while still giving a decent challenge.

stupid hard: COD games on vet difficulty. a strong second to that is killzone liberation, a game where the game machanics are working against you.

Fun hard: You need all of your skill to survive and take out the enemies successfully. I got killed 2 or 3 times every level on Bad Company 1's Hard difficulty, but it was a fun sort of hard, so I enjoyed it.

Stupid hard: You get killed without warning, or because the game's control are really bad. I'm looking at you, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

"Fun" hard: Mass Effect 2 on Insanity. Doable and possible with patience, calm nerves, and deadly accuracy.
Also, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 on Expert. Doable, but again, really difficult if you're careless. Have to be EXTRA careful when shooting those zombies. Spraying and Praying is no longer a valid tactic.
RE5 on Professional mode with a competent co-op partner.

"Stupid" hard: Modern Warfare 2 on Veteran difficulty, Medal of Honor: Airborne on the highest difficulty setting. Seriously, skill has nothing to do with beating either of these games on their hardest setting. It's all about patience, a billion respawns, and fucking blind luck. I don't know if they're trying to send a subtle message by saying 'There's nothing glorious about real war. If this were real war, you would be dead right now. Period. Don't play this game and suddenly think you're the next crackshot infantryman the army or rangers are looking for, cause you're not.' or if the dev's just came to a consensus about how to make these games as ridiculously difficult as possible.

Though I beat MW2 on veteran, I would never in my sane mind do it again. It wasn't fun at all. It was stupid.

RE5 on professional difficulty with AI partner.
