this also the reason why think the rankings system from MW2 ruined the game. everyone wants a good K/D ratio, so the play really really REALLY lame to get it. yesterday i played the game again after moths, and in the second game i found out why is stopped playing it. you have 2 reasons to play a game. for fun with games like: rachet and clank, guitar hero, castle crashers and much more. those are you have fun to play it. and you play games because of the feeling you get playing it. like final fantasy, silent hill, ace attorney. those are games, where you are not having fun with game mechanics. is it fun too choose a attack, wait for it and see it happening? hell no. but the feeling you get for playing and enjoying the story makes it a game you want to play. and MP can be fun if it isn't really competive. cod 3 was mindless fun. nobody took it real serious and everyone was having a fun time. aah good memories :p

As for the whole fun aspect, see, this is why I don't play online much anymore, and even when I do, it's with friends. It's all competitive now. I miss the days when 4 friends could squeeze onto a tiny sofa, plug in the old N64 and play round after round of Goldeneye. Kill death ratios, scores, leveling up, none were considered, and the goal was nothing but enjoy yourself.
Totally. It's all I hope for with multiplayer games. Screw online, the couch is where it's at. When you have these type of get togethers again you remember how social gaming used to be. Get over with a couple of mates, talk, play and have fun! Everyone is talking about social online gaming, but most experiences I've had on the net have been as social as using my left hand.

I've also had some great RPG coop experiences with games like Baldur's Gate (PS2) or Diablo 2 LAN. Looting against one another and cruising through the levels is awesome. 3 rules: Share life, play together, NEVER share loot. Fight and die for the loot, especially if you see something gold/green in Diablo.

Last year I had the most amazing thing happen: I got over to a new friend I made and what did I see? He had a fking N64 hooked up to a tiny TV. GoldenEye. That stuff was great, so good to play even considering the one analogue stick.

By the way if anyone wants to have the local coop experience of their lives play the "capture the fish" mode of Rag Doll Kung Fu on PS3. That shit is crazy. Preferably make a drinking game out of it, man it gets so wild.

EDIT: Oh Yea! WET! Ever played WET? No? Go play it! It is the most fun you can ever have in 3rd person!
WET? seriously. that game was boring as hell! sure the first 10 minutes were fun... then it sucked.
i can't agree more about Black though, that was a very fun game.

Ninja Gaiden 2 was very fun, hacking people into bits in such a fluid way is brilliant.
Also, Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing. as long as you play it with friends it's very fun.
Arrrgh, the lightening archfiend you fight on the statue of liberty... that was insane. You win or you lose within a minute.

MW2, Halo 3, L4D, Borderlands, most fun you will ever have is playing New Super Mario Bros with a friend in the same room competetively we killed each other trying to get power ups so much fun.

Gears of War 2 (when I'm not being bullshitted).

Some games like Mass Effect and Fallout 3 I enjoy the experience but I don't necessarily find them fun like I do mindlessly killing people in CoD or Halo.

yeah that is true, but in a way that makes it better. bosses can be annoying when they take forever and then you die. at least you can die and start the fight again without it taking 20 minutes.

Ya, I remember Fun. I just Battlefield:Bad Company 2 and I had fun. Yesterday after finishing a close round in Left 4 Dead I let out a "YEAH!" when we took the lead. Fun is in the eye of the player, I always had fun playing games, and if I didn't, I quickly put the game and tried something else.

Everyone keeps complaining that games aren't fun anymore, but honestly, I don't see it. I still get the same feeling of joy and shock and awe as I did when I first started gaming ten years ago.

I only play games for fun, not to compete or kill time but to have fun and relax.

I too usually have "fun" with my games. I also don't tend to jump on them right away unless it is a franchise that has been tried and true for me. (Although that does not always work, either.)

BUT! In the case of multi-player games, I must agree. Even fighting games and multi-player racing games are uncommon now. So what was fun? Mario Party but the early ones only since they dumb-ed down the games in the later ones too much. Pokemon Stadium or Colosseum whichever was first for the mini-games. They were fun and unexpectedly cruel to pokemon. Magicarp jumping on dry land? Ratata running on a treadmill? But the best had to be the Lickitung sushi eating game. And for THAT one minigame, I am sad I no longer have the system.

Anyway, the Mortal Combat, Dead on Arrival, Street Fighter, and Soul Calibur games, the early Halo games (I don't know if they kept up the multi-player options but killing off aliens with friends is great.) Likewise I was fond of House of the Dead in the arcade and enjoy Left for Dead 2 with friends as well. Twisted Metal could fill up a night. And there was Heroes of Might and Magic for the computer which was fun with friends either together or separately.

You know chess can be fun, but it's also competitive.
That actually is a good multi-player game too, but if you can mod the game Archon you will see it turned on its ear!

But the best one? Master of Monsters (the Sega one ONLY!). Up to 4 players on a turn-based strategy game. It was awesomeness.

Crackdown, Red Faction Guerilla, Halo 3. I think games have become less fun-focused as a whole these past years.
I thought Crackdown and Halo 3 were extremely fun. Never played Red Faction Guerrilla to know...
Infact I have fun playing ALL my games, and if that means not playing multiplayer then I won't (althought all games recently have had fun multiplayer content.)

Actually, Black is available on Xbox too. Just wanted to point that out.

OT I tend to have fun with all of my online games. I actually find the screaming kids online funny because they're so easy to enrage and they can't do anything about it. Besides, it's stupid to complain about them because you can easily mute them.

Sorry, "Just Cause 2" blows "WET" out of the water (pun wasn't quite intended).

I only play for fun, that's why it's called "playing".

I had so much fun playing brutal legend, I got a sense of joy everytime I melted a goths face :)

But other than that, I have fun usually when I play co-op with a friend next to me, I can't stand playing co-op (or multiplayer at all for that matter) online.

Timesplitters future perfect co-op = awesome fun

I've had a lot of fun with TF2; the characters are hilarious, it's good and balanced, and one of the best parts is that achievement whoring is widely frowned upon in the community, leaving some very fun matches.

I always have fun and I don't just pick what's popular at the moment.

Multiplayer is easily ruined by jerks and people taking the game too seriously.
