Why does nobody have fun on games anymore? Specifically multiplayers.

I am currently running around a game of MW2 Online with an M16 w/ Grenade Launcher, One Man Army, Danger Close and Commando; and you know what? For the first time since I bought the damn game I actually realised I am having fun! The only other games I have ever played where I have had genuine fun are any Ratchet and Clank game, TF2 and a PS2 game called Black (look it up)!

Ratchet and Clank (for those in the know) and TF2 are obvious "fun" choices. So I will explain Black to you for giggles.
Black is/was an single player only FPS for the PS2 circa 2002ish (don't quote me on that) it had a very basic story (something about betrayal) but in truth, the story was unimportant. Any mission could be played on it's own with no back story and you knew exactly what you had to do in each mission: Kill everything and blow up anything! The guns were big and made load noises and were satisfying to fire. Plenty of variety and pretty good graphics made it "fun" to play, charging through a level guns blazing, explosions, buildings collapsing etc.
So if you own a PS2 and see Black in a discount bin, BUY IT!

Yes I also have 2 people on mics in the game insulting me for being a "noob" and "ruining the game" and such but nothing can stop me playing like this as a game isn't supposed to be about caring what other people think or how they enjoy the game.

It is how I enjoy the game, and nothing else should matter to me if I am having fun!

That is what bothers me about (mainly) multiplayers these days. Everybody is talking about "balance", "unfairness", "noobtubes" and "knives" but the fact is you play a multiplayer to have fun first and win second.

And if I have to get a few people riled up to have fun in a game I am playing and winning! Then so be it.

So my point is this: What games do you genuinely have "fun" playing and do you agree/disagree with my point about MW2?

EDIT: Oh Yea! WET! Ever played WET? No? Go play it! It is the most fun you can ever have in 3rd person!

EDIT2: Bioshock 2s MP is also great fun, shooting fire from your hand never gets old!

Crackdown, Red Faction Guerilla, Halo 3. I think games have become less fun-focused as a whole these past years.

Ah yes, Black... The first FPS game I played that made "Boom" look good.

I have fun, not so much with most those games though, unless they can be played co-op with my brother/a friend.

I have fun playing all my games.
I just never bother with multiplayer for that reason...

To be honest, I think MW2 is one of those games where you can play ANY story(wrong word) mission, and have an awesome time. Whenever I'm in need of a quick fix of fun, I jump into one of those campaign missions, kill a bunch of guys, blow up some tanks and have a blast. Regardless of how pathetic the writing is, it's always good fun to play.

So TC's point is that the most important thing is to have fun, even at the expense of other people's fun.

Right.

Games are still fun. I mean, some people have fun playing different things.

But as for games that are just "fun" for me?

Gunstar Heroes. Ratchet & Clank: Any But The First. Bayonetta.

I totally agree with you about MW2. To tell you the truth, sometimes I can't play the game the way it was meant to be played to have fun sometimes. Remember back in Halo 2 when you would make up game types? Like lava boy and the zombie game type. I know Halo 3 actually made one of those into a game type, but what I'm getting at here is that sometimes making a different game out of something your getting bored of refreshes the whole experience.

Take MW2 for example. One time I went about 10 levels using nothing but a riot shield and as defensive perks as I could use. But your noob toobing isn't different. Your just trying to find a way to make it more fun. I say be creative! Sometimes you gotta piss a few people off if you wanna have fun... but at least try to think of to what extent your actions will cause at least. I mean in this case, you'll just get a couple of people to rage, but other than that nothing bad will happen.

This. The missions are so god damn awesome that your able to overlook the fact that the story is unoriginal, pathetic, a cash-in, and a few other mean words.

OT: If my games weren't fun, id be selling them on e-bay right now.

Psychonauts, Portal...

Pretty much all the games I play, actually. If I'm not having fun, I switch it off.

I do not play it because I do not enjoy playing it.
Don't call out the gaming community over something you feel due to something you play.
I wasn't I was just using it as my point that although I am having fun and others in the same game aren't is doesn't and shouldn't bother me.

Multiplayer is with other people. Have you considered that you might not have had fun before, because everyone else was thinking like this?

Anyway, fun games... Hammerfight, nothing like smashing your enemies to the ground with a lightning hammer and having them explode in a shower of coins. Cortex Command, enemies make really rewarding splat sounds if you shoot them with a rocket launcher.

Actually, I have fun with every game I play. I wouldnt be playing them otherwise ya know?

An excellent point! I never complained personally about knifers or noobtubers in MW2, although, granted, they pissed me off alot. But that is my point! Now I am plying like them and enjoying the game, the same way they were to start with!

If you piss someone off they will address you in a suitable manner.
The same is true for all competitive games.
I am not complaining that they are harassing me through their mics. The fact that I am having fun and they aren't amuses me.

I ALWAYS prioritise fun or the playing experience when it comes to buying games.

I recommend Perfect Dark on XBLA. It's practically one of the funnest games available on the system. Fast paced with a large variety of fun weapons, challenges and content.

However imo Black is an extraordinarily average FPS. The presentation is excellent and pretty astounding, especially considering the generation it was developed for, but the level design is vast and sometimes expansive with a sparse peppering of enemies. I found the enemies took nearly half a clip or more to kill them with bodyshots, whereas a headshot was an instant kill. But considering the inaccuracy of your weapons and the size of the levels I found myself emptying clips into single baddies at a time before they bloody dropped. The game didn't quite live up to the Timesplitters-esque fast-paced blast-fest I hoped it would.

Oh, and FUCK the astoundingly boring unskippable cutscenes that would play before every mission. Thank god I had Pokemon Gold with me at those times.

However, I only bought the game for £1 so I ain't exactly mad.
