G-man from the half life series. Now THIS is a massive mystery. It's like if you get the most mysterious mystery from Lost and then put it in a world that actually has some decent writing you get something like G-man.

Anyway, I've been wondering who the hell he is. He's such a creepy ************. Do you think he's good or bad, if he's clairvoyant or just really good at thinking shit out...

I have some theories.

I think that he could possibly be Gordan from the future. He seems to know most things that are going to happen, he looks like a skeletal gordan but with no beard or glasses. I know it's far fetched, but it does kinda make sense. He rescues Alyx from Black Mesa even though "his employers" didn't want him too. He makes sure Freeman survives, he seems to be pulling Vance's strings, and even communicating with a Vortigaunt (seen on one's TV, then the Vort says "We both serve the same mystery"). I know his hair is a different colour but that could have been changed by years spent in stasis or some reason or another.

OR a galactic/universal overseer, trying to stabilise the universe, or working for a group of overseers. He seems kinda god-like, but he seems a tad fearful when he mentions his employers. He seems to regard them as a "council" because he talks about certain "naysayers" who he works for which implies that some of his superiors agree with what he thinks...

OMG MYSTERY

Anyway I wanna hear what you think.

I've never really cared, but i'd imagine he's some kind of alien. For a start, he has no consideration for human life, and looks shifty as fuck. He's probably from a conquered race and has come to earth to...find a single man to take down the entire combine army. Hmm, that actually sounded better in my head.

He's obviously nonhuman, considering he can survive in areas far deadlier than what any human could, and he can teleport.
Also, he's some sort of living version of a job-finder.

I don't know extactally but I'd say he is somthing very alien, and that is just his human form, his true form is perhaps very bizare or incomprehensable to normal humans

He clearly refers to employers; an extra-dimensional being, or one with access to extra-dimensional technology, whose employers have a stake in the future development of humanity, to whatever level suits them. He's a facilitator for an unknown and possibly incomprehensible regime, outside of the normal human perception of space-time.

Also, he's left intentionally vague so they can pile more crap onto the back story. There's no truth here, or real answer.

Just another alien. It might have been a bit of a stretch after the first game, but after the beginning of episode 1 there's not really any room left for discussion.

I like to think he's Slender Man (if you don't know what that is, look it up at once). He's omnipresent and seems to have control over space and time when he wants to. And his physique is tall and slender-like, but I don't know. Your guess is as good as mine.

I believe that he's an agent of a multi-universal nation like the Combine that is at war or at least hostile to the Combine. His goal is to assist in the rebellion against Combine occupation on Earth as part of an effort by his government to weaken the Combine.

Judging by the way the Vortigaunts try to oppose him he is also paving the way for his employers to set up their own occupation of Earth.

I have a creeping suspicion his name came from "Garry-Man" but from what I understand he keeps referencing "my employees" so maybe he's "Government-Man".

I don't believe he is good or bad. He works for his/employers interest. This can either help the player or hinder. He sees Freeman and people around him as tools & investments to be used. Antagonising him in the eyes of the player. I believe before the Half Life series finishes G-Mans true motives will be revealed. Hopefully for the better.

Maybe he will save the day right at the end. Just as Freeman is about to fail, G-Man will save him and disappear letting Freeman take the credit and Freeing Freeman from his years of service to G-Man and his employers.

I'm not even going to guess who he really is. He could be anyone. I don't think he will be Freeman.

BTW the moniker "G-man" isn't an official name or canon or anything, that was just his models name in HL1, and ever since that the name stuck.

Hopefully they'll reveal SOME information in Episode 3/HL3, but I suppose the more mystery the better
