im pretty sure I convinced that super mutant that you rescue to go in and do it for me. I just hope im remembering it right.
That's impossible unless you have Broken Steel, in which case it wouldn't be the end any more.
Ah that must have been why, my mistake.

I'll have to mirror (Ha, geddit?) Mirror's Edge. I had no idea what was going on, then I got a slight idea, then it finished. If anything, its a feat that they actually managed to produce what is seen as an anticlimax to a story most people had given up on by that point anyway.

As for Gears of War 2, I actually thought it had a rather neat conclusion. What better way to end an epic story arc than with AN EXPLOSIVE DINOSAUR BEING BLOWN UP BY MULTIPLE SPACE LASERS. Gameplay-wise, it's lacking, sure, but RAAM was hardly an innovation on that front.

I'd rather a story concluded with whizz-pow-bang lasers than a twenty second boss-fight.

EDIT: Only exception being the arena.
Sadly my decisions made the epic fight turn into the baseball bat scene from Inglourious Bastards.

He stood there and I just kept hitting.

I'm a horrible person.
I did something much worse to him.I finished his quest. And then when the fight started,he just stood there and took it.So I decided to be a dick and turned the difficulty to the max to increase my blade skill.I got a level up from it,so it wasn't all bad.

OT:Fallout 3 before BS.Seriously, you go through all that, and then you die.And it wasn't even an epic death. You just fall over from radiation. And I had gone into the room without dying from radiation, then why do I suddenly die when I punch in the code? Why can't I just punch in the code and then run out again? Stupid game.

COD MW2, I was like wtf! I am so sick of poorly thought out cliffhangers :(

As well as Halo 3 and Gears of War 2.

Prototype was another one it left me shocked and confused, with a feeling of "was that it?".

Seriously after all of that you throw endings like that us, shame on you games designers!

There have only been a few games lately though that have left me satisfied with the ending.

The last boss of Serious Sam: The Second Encounter is rather disappointing, but thats actually okay, given that the battle before that is one of the most epic setpieces i've ever played...

Also, i second Mass Effect 2, especially since i apperantly played the game TOO MUCH
EVERYONE survived. EVERY SINGLE ONE. Even the whole crew of the ship. As a gamer, it's a great success. Storywise, it's enourmously anticlimatic, especially since it was a so called "suicide mission" and was, for me at least, easier than most of the previous Collector Encounters

For the complete opposite, The Darkness
Storywise, it's a great ending and shows nicely how Jackie loses himself to The Darkness. But in terms of Gameplay, it's a bit of shooting gallery until the game starts to play itself until you can one-shot-kill your arch enemy.

Also, the last Level of Far Cry 1 sucked.

No arguement on that front, just that it could have been made more challanging. All that was really required was to sit there and hold A for 10 seconds and thats my beef, there was no skill or movement required and it just got my goat that to have what for me surpassed the original GoW game in levels and such, to then be let down by a tame end boss battle

the most disappointing ending is either between fable 2, fallout 3, gears of war 2, killzone 2, resistance 2 and the list goes on for me but you get the drift alot of games set up to be epic some succeed while others fail
note how most were the second iteration. Maybe game devs are following a generic code to leave it open ended for the third installment :l hey wouldn't be the first time an industry has tried that.

the fight against Ganondorf in Wind Waker. the game was good but Ganondorf looked stupid and the fight wasn't that great. Majora's Mask/Incarnation/Wrath is epic. the OoT and TP Ganondorf fights were good, WW left a lot to be desired

OT:

The ending of Fallout 3 was a bit of a limp squid. Borderlands too.

Neither really had the desired effect of giving a dramatic and satisfying climax to thier stories.

At least Broken Steel made up for that though.
i agree, these were my two candidates for bad climaxes...

Well, I'm going for Assassins Creed 2, it just left me saying "what the fuck just happened?".
Well, it left Ezio saying the same thing.

OT: Halo 2, Assassin's creed 1 for the fact that it stops RIGHT when your about to find out somthing cool.

Oh good, I wasn't the only one.
Crisis still comes to mind. I love that game for much more than just the graphics, but it doesn't even end. You kill what you assume to be the alien boss thing, then you find out that you didn't really help.
Still quite proud that I killed that boss without the missile launcher. The game glitched and I wuldn't drop it, so I couldn't pick another up.

Borderlands. All that work for a ten minute boss fight and a new shotgun that wasn't as good as my static shotgun (That I picked up in a box back in firestone, level 5ish).

My shotgun isn't really that good, it just looks pretty when I'm killing the bad guys. Then again I'm a bad guy, at least I'm not a good guy. So I guess I'm just killing the other guys. Screw the ending, the plot itself is dissapointing.

**POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT**
I finished GOW3 today yeah i know a bit late. Anyway i had a friend over watching it and he knew a little bit about GOW and, Kratos in particular and after watching the ending we both had different opinions on whether it was a good ending or not .

My question is what climaxes or endings to games have left you disappointed ?

Edit: I am talking about climaxes or endings of video games which did not justify the journey or leave the player with a sense of accomplishment. Or just plain sucked
Mass Effect II ftw.
That entire game was just... why, Bioware... why!?
You had a good thing going!
The ending was just an epic facepalm.

Heh, i'm sure there has been a lot of games that left me a bit unsatisfied in the end, but my memory is a tricky thing. I'll have to go with any game that has a frustratingly open or anti-climatic ending after a lot of buildup.

Crysis comes to mind. Sure, the story was a big whopping cliché, and the graphics and nanosuit abilities were the only things that kept me interested in the game, but the ending felt like "so... is that it then?".

Plus, i was so frustrated with the way Dreamfall ended, althoguh not for a bad reason.
It wasn't bad, far from it, but it made me freaking mad that i had to wait for a sequel when i was so invested on the damn story at that point.

Kane and Lynch: Dead Men. it had a bankjob, jailbreak, kidnapping, everything. some of the best levels ever...But, the worst endings (yes both of them suck) i have ever seen.
