It depends on the game.

With certain games like, Fallout 3 ans AC2, it was really about the journey you took rather than the actual destination. So even if those endings were lackluster, I still loved the games themselves.

But ending in GoW3 felt like a deflated beach ball.
I know what you mean especially as fallout 3 and assassins creed 2 as examples but i feel generally a narratives focus is to make the journey feel memorable and the climax feel like both an expression and justification of that journey. You know what i mean? Maybe i should edit my first post.

The original Rayman. You have to get 100% completion to get to the last level, the main villian has the nerve to run away (you don't get to fight him) and then you get pitted against several mixtures of the previous bosses AND the ending cutscene is just some guy saying "you saved the world!" while the same 5 seconds of compliments loops in the background.

I GOT 100% IN ALL THOSE HARD-ASS LEVELS FOR THIS?!

Fallout 3 prior to Broken Steel was terrible, although it would have been nice of Broken Steel to have an ending.

I disliked Halo 2's and 3's. The former because of the cliffhanger and the latter because it basically set up for another game as if nothing ever happened.

Definitely, especially as they didn't even make a damn third one.

I thought the ending to fallout 3 was decent, it had to end some how didn't it?
The issue was with the lack of logic at the end. There are two companions in the game who could have went into the room without being killed but they refuse to for no other reason than "It is not my destiny to do so".

Were those two companions not in the game then it would have been OK.
im pretty sure I convinced that super mutant that you rescue to go in and do it for me. I just hope im remembering it right.

OT; i cant really think of a game where just the ending was dissapointing. usually they are just dissapoiinting from the word go.

I like it when games end well, even though that's a cliche. Of course, they're just setting up the sequel, which makes it a "to be continued..." ending, which I also hate.

First, they have me fight some lameass baby/embryo Reaper. Killing a baby is hardly the climax I was looking for. Then, after almost forcing me to destroy the extremely valuable Reaper base because I was playing a "good" character, the game ends exactly the same as the first, without having advanced the story one bit.

I can't believe Fable 2 hasn't been mentioned yet.

That's probably the best anti-climax ever conceived.

I don't really care for the endings in open-world games since the general consensus is that they almost always disappoint. Aslong as they've given me a great free-roaming experience, the ending doesn't matter to me.

However, with action-adventure games like God of War or Prince of Persia, a bad ending really drags down the rest of the game for me.

Shenmue 2. No sequal in sight meanwhile our hero is stuck in a cave with a girl the entire two games have been building up to who we've known for about an hour. Why Sega, why?

With you on Halo 3, kinda felt like all that work was for nothing.

Predictable shit
I agree. Especially after I fought like hell to get to that damn chopper, it pisses me off to see the lack of a truly epic climax.

Slightly off topic, the worse ending for me was Gears of War 2. Mainly because I was looking forward to a awesome final boss fight like RAMM was in the first, that guy was a nightmare to take down on the insanity difficulty with my freind. An to end the second? as Yahtzee once said "you get to kill armoured dinosaurs with orbital lasers" Sounds cool enough but for me it ruined the game enough for me not to go back to it.

the most disappointing ending is either between fable 2, fallout 3, gears of war 2, killzone 2, resistance 2 and the list goes on for me but you get the drift alot of games set up to be epic some succeed while others fail

But that was probably the best one-shot kill ever. Still very lacking in the ending and much of the story line if you didn't do extra quests or hunt for the keys.

I hated the ending to Still Life. It was a fantastic adventure game, it kept me up til 5 am playing it many times. The ending screams "Haha, we're gonna tell you in the sequel". PS: The sequel sucks.

The ending of Far Cry 2 was pathetic if you ask me.

[spoiler/] You're sent through an enclosed area and kill lots of enemies, only for you to kill yourself in the end, just pathetic. [/spoiler]

Fallout 3 - the ending was just bad for me. I can't even look at the game anymore. I bought The Pitt and Operation Anchorage, but those weren't good. I don't plan on buying anything else for this game or playing it ever again.

Fable 2 - though I liked the game; the ending wasn't so great. I do like that you can keep playing after it.

Oblivion - No end real boss...extremely short. Again, I'm glad I was able to continue after it, though.

Prince of Persia - I did not play this. I watched my dad play through the game and even then I was bored to tears. The ending was just not my thing and it felt as if it could have been way better.
