I already stopped watching this show an episode ago, but I felt the curiosity to check the forum and see what people thought... clearly, this show isn't going to make it with responces like the ones I'm reading.
And why is Bob so liked? To find out I suppose I'll have to watch it.
But I don't think I'm going to.

It's good, but note quite as funny as it probably should be. Still, I can feel some momentum building. I can already see Roger having to get-up so people can get into the fridge as being one of those amusing things you just kinda notice passively going-on in the background while other characters are talking. As well as a few other running gags.

Also, am I the only one who wants to scritch Gary behind those massive ears of his? He's an asshole, but dammit he's adorable!

Wow.

5 minutes of watching the Satan 'punchline' coming lumbering over the brow of a hill like a retarded elephant.

I'm starting to suspect that this entire series is a joke at our expense - intentionally unfunny/cringe-inducing in order to measure the pointless venting of hostility by way of reaction. Sort of like a terrible 80s performance artist dropping his trousers and pooing on stage, just to rile the audience...

Bleh.

I think I'm detecting a pattern here. Seems like the folks who have at some point in their lives worked in an office understand and appreciate the humor of Game Dogs, and the people who have not, don't. Diffr'nt strokes.

Thankfully we have better ways of determining how well a show is doing other than counting the number of jackass comments in the forums, and from what we can tell, it's doing alright. Which, naturally, makes me all giddy.

Thanks for watching and commenting. If you're enjoying the story so far, hang on to your butts. The best is yet to come.
So you're blatantly dismissing all of the overwhelming negativity being directed towards this show, and THOSE people are the jackasses? I've been holding out on commenting in these threads for the specific reason that you guys have garnered enough criticism already without my input, but if this is the way you're going to respond, you absolutely deserve it.

So, just to reiterate (since it hasn't been getting through to you, apparently): Game Dogs is not funny. It has no material, it has no presentation, it has no timing. You can either choose to accept this criticism and deal with it (either by refining the show or, at the very least, keeping at it with a smile on your face), or you can continue to make up excuses and berate your audience. Either way, no, this show isn't "doing alright."

(I may as well mention that I have no beef with the animation. Yeah, it's not great, but what do you guys expect?)

ok just so russ pitts doesnt think i am an ass i am going to explain why i dislike the show, firstly unlike some people i like the humor second i think the character do mimic the office sterotypes (including jerk boss) the two things i dislike is one the characters have no backstory as such and second is there a key plot reason they are dogs cos i dont get that

dont let the show die escapist but do plz refine it just think family guy was cancelled after its first season and fox did not understand why simpsons needed to be animated and look at there success just try and find some advise amid the storm of complaining plz.

Oy. Looks like I inadvertently made a boo-boo. Sorry guys.

Just so there's no confusion whatsoever, we do make a distinction between "jackass" comments and useful criticism, and we're reading every response that's posted here and taking them to heart. Especially the nice ones. ;)

We will definitely continue to make adjustments to the show to try to account for things that are definitely not working, but at the end of the day we totally recognize that some folks just aren't going to like everything that we do. And that's fine. That's just life.

Thanks again to everybody who watched and commented, whether you love it or hate it or fall somewhere in-between.

Just out of curiosity, what are these other ways? External discussion, critical approval, or high views?
We read minds ...

These videos are not bad..but christ, Gary is annoying. Too bad he probably is an integral part of Gamedogs. I say: get rid of him, and I might keep watching this. I actually enjoy this show, even though I'm not waiting for it's release every week. That's why it saddens me that I just can't seem to like Gary.

Not really, but if you know me, you know that I tend to sort of speak my mind and not pay enough attention to how it's coming out. Especially on Friday, when it's raining outside and I'm pretending to be home sick so I can toss back some scotch and play Mass Effect ... erm. Moving on.

Anyway, my point was that I meant it well when I called everybody a jackass, but looking back, I can see how that could be misconstrued. Heh. Whoopsie.

By the way, Russ: the theme song is really nice, but it might be a good idea to get the 'are you mad?'-quote out of the intro. The voice-actors are all good, including Gary's, but I noticed I'm starting to skip the intro because of that quote. Not a good sign, I think.

I think, in my eyes, the honesty would have been more appreciated. Now it just seems like youre flip flopping. Go forth and call everyone a jackass, hell stand by it for more than a day or say nothing at all.
Well dude, in my experience some jackass on the internet will always find a way to poke you in the eye no matter what you say, so I try not to worry about it too much and just say what I mean to say, when I mean to say it.

To quote Emerson, "Speak what you think today in hard words and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said today." That's from "Self-Reliance," written in 1841, but I think it still holds today, almost two hundred years later.

Seriously, I recommend Emerson to everyone. He has a lot to say about not paying too much attention to annoying jackasses, and concentrating instead on what you believe to be true about your own self.

Bob was funny. Nothing else was. Whos bright idea was it to make an episode about Satan? I liked this episode about as much as I liked the Satan stuff in South Park. That is to say, not at all.

Edit: It occured to me that this could be a Satire of how developers, for both both games and movies, are wholly uneducated and do not care to view their source material to even get it remotely right, like Legion.

What I find annoying is how absolutely everyone seems to be expecting this series to be nothing but randomly-construed jokes. It has a story. As evidenced by Unforgotten Realms, Order of the Stick, LFG comic, etcetera, anything with a story is not going to be endless jokes. It's going to follow that story.

I'm finding the transgression of this story interesting. If I want to laugh non-stop I'll go watch Important things with Demetri Martin.

Alright, I will make something more constructive since Russ is not happy. Here it goes. It may sound as a rant, but every rant have a suggestion attached to it. Here it goes.

Warning: Spelling and sentence construction will probably be quite ugly. But, heh, I speak french originaly. You have been warned.

Characters-------------------------

Gary; If he really want to fire people, and dont do it, and he do not really want to fire them. He is just like the evil guys in the kid's series. Not truely evil, never doing everything they can to get rid of the good guys. Anyway, his dialogue, as stated multiple times, is not funny. Its not a joke. He is just stating, over and over, that he will fire them. No joke in that sentence, just a statement. What he need to do is try to make them fail, not just wish they fail, do everything he can to make them fail... Just like the coyote and the road runner. At least that would be better than simply stating the 3 same words over and over.

Roger; Get rid of him, there is absolutly nothing funny about him. If someone need to be fired, its him. That guy, or dog if you will, is the best animated representation of how funny it is to watch paint dry. If you replaced him with a strayman sitting in his chair and never contributing anything to the show then nobody would ever notice. Because he bring absolutly ZERO energy to the show. Its just a boring nerd with nothing to say... and we see enough of these everyday. Hell, put BOB in his chair, and keep the very intelligent smooth attittude that he have now and the episode will improve greatly.

Bethany; Why dont you give her a personnality, I mean, if her personnality is to ask everyone to tell her what to do then she have none. Every time she open the mouth its to ask; What do I do, I dont know how to do it, tell me what to do, I havent done anything in my life, What kind of thing is that and so on. Anyway, girls tend to be very ''loud'', they disagree, they argues, they let their personnality out, they yell, they are angry, they dont let people walk on their feet, they cry, they blackmail... Why dont you give her a ***** personality. Hell, any personality will do! The bicth, the tease, the spoiled, the demanding, the perfectionnist...

Chet: He is cool and come with ideas. What else? He, also, need a personnality. Why dont you make him obsessed with sex? Always trying to get bethany into his bed... Hell thats just an idea, can be anything. Or make him very irresponsible, sleep on the job, smoke weed, he party every night or he game every night and never sleep. Cannot be the super stressed guy because gary is that guy.

I dont what kind of people you hang with, but they are very bland. Instead why dont you look at people you would never hang with, the outgoing and gregarious people. The people with stuff happening in their lifes. The kind of things that is fun to watch because you despite them or because you envy them. You know?

Bob: Bob is fine, I enjoy him, people enjoy him. Its my favorite character.

Yenn: I dont personaly like that character, but some people do. Its a cliche in my opinion but if the people like him the way he is, then lets leave him that way.

General------------------------

The animations doesnt bother me personnaly, Im used to it. But I have to agree about the facial expressions. It might be because they are dogs, but there is not a lot of emotions emanate out of their faces.

So, use the tails... When the tail is held high, shows that the dog is alert; Tail between the legs means that the dog is afraid. If the fur on the tail is also bristled, the dog is saying they are willing to defend. Small, slow wags of the tail says the dog is questioning things around them. Either they aren't sure if the target dog or person is friendly, or they aren't sure what is going on or what is expected of them. Large, fast wags of the tail may be a sign of a happy or excited dog,

Remove the ''this was animated in front of a live audiance''. If you do find it funny unlike most of us, it still imply that the ''live audience'' does'nt find it funny at all since there are no canned laugh going off ever. So it imply that its not funny. Dont remember who stated that on what page, but I agree with them completly.

Change the ''Are you insane'' comment of Gary every episodes so it become a running gag just like the simpson with bart in the classroom or the family on the couch. If you dont like that idea, I suggest that you simply remove it since it bring nothing to the episodes but repetition and irritate the most part of viewers. I dont know if you play video games, I hope you do, but in video games the sounds repeating over and over tend to irritate the players... so its not really a good idea to put that in your animations. (fire in the hole, fire in the hole, fire in the hole, fire in the hole; that kind of stuff)

Conclusion--------------------------------

If you dont want to consider these suggestions seriusly and continu the way you are going. Then congratz, you succesfully made a children serie on an adult website. At least, I think its for adults... well, mature gamers. But are gamers matures at all? Thats whe question!
