I'm sorry but no!
This was so bad didn't even make me smile...
This is obviously meant for KIDS who think that talking dogs and random mild violence is "cool" which I'm pretty sure no one, bar a few people. Hopefully episode 2 will be better but I think the idea is bad in General, I mean seriously, Talking Dogs!?!? save that shit for Disney and at east don't put any dog puns in. I know it was only "Dungeons & Dogs" but I could so see this escalate into "Modern Wooffare 2" or something, so please Russ stop this now before you make more series like this.
MODERN WOOFFARE 2 LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! That one comment is funnier than this ENTIRE animated episode.
On the series.. I think there is an IDEA here, but... well.. the problem is, sometimes, "Ideas" can be great on paper, not so good when implemented. I believe this series is the case of that...
I'm sure if I was sittin around with me mates and we were having a beer and came up with an idea for a bunch of dogs playing video games, it would be hilarious... the problem is, it's a bit like making a Gary Larsen tv show based on the Farside... the one-off panels are great, everyone knows that if you read the paper, but a half hour prime time cartoon would be disastrous because it just doesn't work.
Worse, this show runs the risk of becoming a poor man's "Code Monkeys" meets Big Bang Theory.. with "dogs". Not to say the "anthropomorphic" dog thing is the problem, it's just the subject matter involved.. I suspect these dogs might "work" at a gaming company.. and all the usual "character types" are there by the numbers... There's the obviously good-looking, "cool guy" dog, the nerdy curly haired friend, the obligatory "chick who probably doesn't seem like she should be playing games cause she's hot and doesnt engage in geek culture but is accepting of it and is probably the best game player in the group", the obnoxious, condemning "boss" who thinks "these punks are just wasting time when they should be working cause thats what grown ups do", and I'm sure other stale archetypes that will take about all of five seconds to flesh out upon sight. How long before we see the big fat sheep dog "uber nerd" that nobody likes and that engages in weird geek fetishes?
If you are into animation, ICEBOX had a series about poker playing dogs done in a similar fashion that actually turned out to be pretty damn good and was genuinely hilarious because of the SITUATIONS that occurred. If you haven't seen them, I suggest you take some time to go watch them. Just look up Poker Night on youtube because I think Icebox.com no longer has em up, but if you do, you'll see what I mean.
