The death of a Mr. John Marston.
This. So much this.

Also, the funeral for a patriot in MGS3.
The Saints Row 2 cutscenes hit you hard too, but they don't make you feel sad, just appalled.

And, weirdly, Lone Wolf in Reach. Gives me this odd mix of triumph and TAKE THAT YOU BASTARDS!

...yep, Bastion was pretty nice, in a tearjerking way.

Otacon's reaction when his sister dies. Say what you want about cheesy voice acting, but it was a really powerful scene.
Ugh, don't remind me.
That was one undeserved death alright.

I don't have many. But Hanako's arc and Emi's arc in Katawa Shoujo both struck chords with me, more so than any other of the (well written) arcs in the game. Also, this afternoon I was playing Assassin's Creed 2 again, and I was in the DLC memory sequence, Battle of Forli. I actually felt pain on behalf of Caterina Sforza (a historical figure, remember) when she was crying and begging Ezio for help in rescuing two of her children from the Orsi Brothers. It helps that she'd endeared herself to me massively through her... 'spirited' defiance of the brothers earlier on. Including her mouth and vocabulary that are both as dirty as a shore leave hooker...

It may sound a bit lame but I think in Final Fantasy X when you are inside sin I always feel that the adventure is drawing to a close. I find myself reminiscing about the things that you've done and the places you've seen, and feel a bit sad. You can always replay it again, but it never quite has the same effect.

Just need to hold off replaying it till the HD version comes out haha.

Also i forgot to mention Skies of Arcadia. Such a good game.

Losing Fina to Valuan Empire, and then gaining Enrique as a party member/his change of sides

I had finished Shadow of The Colossus twice before. I knew how it always ended, how it had to end.

The third time I played that final scene I realized that I could still whistle for my horse. It's revealed in the cutscene following the confrontation with Lord Emon that your horse has somehow survived a drop into a ravine, I thought "maybe if he's alive and I whistle for him..." and so I whistled, I whistled and whistled, fighting the inevitable pull of the vortex behind me, it let me get as far away from it as I did, it didn't matter, it would always get me in the end.

After about 15 minutes of fighting, tired and worn down, I gave up for the third time and was dragged into the vortex. As I did so I marveled at the game's ability to still give me hope for a different ending after all this time.

I know the game has to end like that, but I always hope that someday, somehow, someone will find the trick to getting a happy ending.

Meh, never saw Aerith's death to be that sad...seeing as how she WANTED to die in order to fulfill her destiny or something.

Personally I found more tear-jerker moments in FF6. One of my favorites is if you don't give Cid enough super-fish and he ends up dying. Celes enters the shack and tries to wake him...starting to cry as she realizes that he really is dead and (as far as she knows) she's now officially all alone. So she runs up on the cliffs overlooking the sea and, while shedding a few tears, flings herself off, just wanting to end it all with her death. She wakes up on the beach and finds the bird with Locke's bandana, and she knows she's not alone...that she has to get off that island and find her comrads.

*le sigh* THAT'S what makes the classic FF games good far superior to any FF past and including 8. They actually had writing good enough to invoke a deep emotional response without the need of ear-bleedingly bad voice actors.

Pyramid Head killing Maria before she could get in the elevator and James being helpless to stop him. it's usually very hard to make me angry. i'm a generally happy laid back guy. but that moment made me so pissed. i didn't even care about conserving ammo after that. every enemy got shot multiple times for the next hour.
Not only that, while Mary was reading the note she left at the end, I was trying to hold back the tears..

But I really couldn't when even the voice actor couldn't.

Too many scenes to count in Persona 4.
I keep hearing this about Persona and it's making it sound very appealing.

Do I have to play any MegaTen games to understand Persona? And, for that matter, do I have to play previous Persona installments to understand 4?

If not, I'd love to take a look at it.

Mary's full letter in Silent Hill 2. It's kind of bittersweet in the "Leave" ending, but with "In Water", it's heart wrenching.

Spec Ops: The Line does a good job of making you feel bad.

The ending to Beneath a Steel Sky always makes me a little bit sad, yet also kind of cheerful. It probably wouldn't have such an effect if the ending music wasn't so wonderful.
It even blinds me from being kind of disappointed with the reverse flying helicopter.

Oh... I got the "leave" ending and I still thought it was painful to listen to. That game was heart wrenching anyway, every moment is either full of pain, fear, or regret.

It's really not the same horror as most games.

The Final Fantasy series has a lot of pretty heavy moments but for me, the two parts that always makes me a bit weepy are...

Final Fantasy VI: The story arc starting with the poisoning of Doma and ending in The Phantom Forest/Doom Train. Cyan has to watch his family, friends and, Kingdom succumb to poison. Shortly after fleeing the scene Cyan comes across The Doom Train, which takes souls to the afterlife where Cyan bids his wife and young son a final farewell. Tears happen every. single. time. Manly tears...like Kenshiro...

Final Fantasy IX: When you beat the final boss, it seems hinted at that Zidane sacrifices himself to save the world (or was it reality?) After the final battle and everything has calmed the Hell down it shows an FMV of things going back to normal, a celebration throughout the world because hey, we're not about to die and the war is over. Steiner and Beatrix are together (a sub plot that makes me happy on its own) then it shows that Zidane is alive after all! He and Garnet run to each other, embrace, everyone claps and even when I see that scene in Theatrythm it makes me tear up and my heart feel all...fluffy...and warm. I should see a doctor about that.

You don't need to play any others, however there are some references to Persona 3 in the game. I recommend playing Persona 3 first anyway because doing the transition back to 3 after playing 4 (which is superior in pretty much every aspect) can be quite jarring.

OT: What Fappy said.

Ah, thanks for the tips ^^

Unfortunately I never owned a PS2 and my computer most likely couldnt handle a PS2 emulator. Now the trouble is finding a way to play the game...

If you have a PSVita you can get both portable versions of the games, I believe. P3P came out on PsP originally but if I remember correctly can be downloaded to PSVita, and P4Golden is coming out soon.

THis sounds ridiculous, but is true.
Assasin's Creed Brotherhood. I had kept the same colour horse (he was called Horse) throughout the game, and he was awesome. Went through all my adventures with me, valiantly by my side, never flinching. And then in the final mission he gets killed. I was a little bit heartbroken. My mates who were on xbox live with me at the time still mock me for how upset I was. I never played anything other than the story missions straight through after that mission, not to get the collectibles or anything.
